This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Urselles holds tight on the wheel, as the boat continues to drift down river. Klandar readies and throws the net ( 12 ), only to have it splash into the water. He begins pulling back up the net.
Shalech looks to the closed door, to Croak and around the room, "Well, we're safe from the bear for the time being. We can go through all this stuff and decide what to keep and what to leave behind. All this wizard material; the paper, ink, spell books, staff... would have quite a bit of value I'm sure, but not very useful for Croak and I. Nathan can probably keep those. Croak and I can split the 2 gems. As for the boots, we can go back to Dar's and find out what they do and decide then.
When we're ready to leave, I can lure the bear past the secret door since I can move fast while the rest of you head out the other door."
The box is a fine red oak, with soft cloth inside. It is built to house a long object; and after a moment you realize that it was designed to hold the glowing rod. Likely so that the hermit could 'turn off the light' for sleep.
Croak has his longsword in hand and the box with the rod tucked under his other armpit.
"I'm ready to go"
Croak will be the first out of the door that the party exits but will remain just outside it until all the members are through (besides Shalech, who's handling himself), ready to defend the party from the bear.
OOC: Plan is: I open the door (the first one we found) and cast Expeditious Retreat as a Bonus action. Then I'll cast Infestation on the bear and immediately retreat. I will move my full movement, plus my bonus action to move again for a total of 60 feet. On the way out of the second door (pantry) I will close it behind me so the bear has to double back, if it followed me.
If you need me to roll anything other than the Infestation attack, let me know.
Feeling the infestation, the bear begins to roll around, trying to rid itself of the critters. Croak takes this as the sign for everyone to go, and opens the door. Nathan and Theodore quickly exit with Shalech right behind.
As Shalech flees, the bear takes notice, and begins pursuing. Croak escapes as Shalech gets his hands on the door. You see the face of the bear, teeth at the ready, as the door shuts. Their is an audible click a mere second before a large heavy thud against the stone door.
You flee the cave, with everything of importance gathered. There doesn't appear to be any sound of further pursuit from the bear. Joran is amazed that you all made it out.
Urselles, you maintain the boat as best you can. It straightens, heading closer to a dock. You hear Normand complete his spell and then yell; "Surrender!!" You can't tell if John complies; your attention focused on the approaching dock.
The travel back to town is a lot less adventurous, with some wild animal sightings, Joran making note of a rabbit hole for later hunting, and thankfully no giant shadows of flying creatures.
In a few hours time you get to town just as Urselles attempts to not crash a boat. You can actually see this as you approach the bridge.
Urselles grabs the wheel. (Make a Wisdom Save)

"Sounds like a good plan! But what if you are not fast enough and the bear attacks you? How shall we help you then?"
Nathan starts gathering the books, scrolls, and other material that could be valuable.
"With Expeditious Retreat, I should be able to outrun a bear. And as a backup, I'll have some food ready to throw at it."
As Shalech waits, he noticed that the long box on the floor in the first room hasn't been opened.
((This is going to be the one that has a trap....))
Shalech sees the unopened box and opens it.

Very nice. Shalech puts the rod in the box and hands it to Croak. "I don't need this kind of bauble, I can cast Light when I need it.
Now, are we all set? Shall I create the distraction so you can all slip out the back way?"

"Good, we might be able to sell that rod later if we don't need it. As far as I am concerned, we are good to go!"
Nathan takes one last look around to see if they have missed anything:
