"It would seem we must go to the mountain as the mountain has run away from us. Now they have seen our skill set do we think they might like to chat to us? We may be able to find out who they are, why they are here and if they are the ones causing the problems. "
Zaerra look to the group for their thoughts.
If the group decides to go down the stairs Zaerra with go but not as point, she would be happy with 3rd or 4th down the stairs. Close enough for spells hopefully not close enough to get spotted!
"Perhaps now that you have seen our skillset you would like to settle this in a diplomatic matter. You can all get out of this alive if you cooperate. Otherwise my friend here is itching to hit something or someone very hard and you would make good targets. Come up here with your hands up and no weapons and we won't hurt you any further."
While Irob as a construct is not capable of chuckling you almost hear a slight hint of amusement in his voice as he talks about Rask hitting things
"Plenty more opportunities to improve your manners....and elocution....if you so choose to come up. Or we can do it the hard way." Yga slaps her mace into the palm of her hand for effect.
"How about if I send a fireball up your way?" shouts a deep voice, which you recognise as the same as you heard when the magic mouth spell was triggered. Irob and Zaerre exchange glances, both acknowledging that there is a spellcaster down there as the magic mouth uses the spellcaster's voice. The spell is also currently more complex than either of them could cast.
You all hear the sounds of scraping. A door being opened perhaps?
"It seems the time for pleasantries is over" Irob looks towards the others, gesturing down the stairs "Does someone wish to take the lead so we can show these ruffians a less diplomatic solution?"
"Let's get going then," growls Rask. "But he'sgoing first" She gestures to the dead body, and hauls him up, readying herself to throw him down the stairs.
"When we're ready to head down I'll throw him first... might catch a few of them off guard. Or maybe old Twitchy McSpellfingers will get spooked and catch him with a fireball. Either way."
The body tumbles down the stairs and lands on a small landing before the stairs continue down to a stone floor. Rask can't see anyone, but hears that scraping sound again.
The party heads down the stairs, Rask first, maul at the ready, Susk second with dagger ready to stab or throw, Zaerra next a spell almost on the lips, Igo following with a finger pointed for a fire bolt, Yga next, her mace ready to meet out divine justice, and lastly Yakeerk with arrow nocked and who spreads his wings out to make himself more noticeable and to draw the eye from his companions.
The lit space at the bottom of the stair is deserted. This torchlit chamber was once a large cellar, but it has since been converted into living quarters. Ten crude beds stand along the south wall, each with a wooden locker at its foot. A long wooden trestle table ringed by rickety stools dominates the center of the room. Metal cutlery, cups, and dirty plates sit atop the table. A cookstove is installed near the table, and evidence of recently cooked meals sits in pots atop it. A large ham hangs from a loop of twine near the stove. There are two wooden doors in the east side of the room.
Yga will carefully skirt along the north side of the room wall past the cooking area and stand ready for action in the north east corner (not near the doors, but in the blind spot corner if anything comes out of the door). She will wait for any cues from the rest of the party and try to remain unobtrusive.
Yakeerk will move to the south west corner of the room, with arrow drawn ready to skewer anything that emerges from either of the doors at the other end of the room.
Susk is pretty sure these wooden doors were not the source of the scraping, which sounded more like stone on stone.
Also nothing about these wooden doors makes him think there are any traps. Susk discovers a symbol - universally used by sailors and smugglers for danger - on the eastern door. It is painted in a colour similar to the door, so easy to miss unless you know to look for it.
Irob will inspect the ham above the stove to see if it has been smoked. If so his current data is reinforced otherwise he requires more information on the preservation of food. Additionally he will aim to look in the north west corner for scrapes on the stone flooring that could be indicative of a secret door.
The ham is indeed, smoked. Irob makes a mental note - pretty much literally - and moves to the northwest part of the room. He examines the floor and the walls here but sees nothing that would indicate a secret door.
Standing next to the cooking area, Rask watches her fellow party members searching the room. She decides to join Yakeerk, not to aim arrows but to search for striations on the floor which might indicate a secret door.

Yakeerk nods, "let's go. It sounds like there are other doors down there. Let's not give them a chance to barricade themselves in somewhere."
"I will go last and shoot with my bow," the dark-feathered owlin ranger draws an arrow from the quiver and fits it loosely to the bow.
Susk draws a dagger to add to his arsenal "Well I will follow you" nodding toward Rask "once you have sent your friend down"
Rask nods and moves towards the stairs. With a grunt of effort she heaves the body and throws it down the stairs. She makes a hasty retreat backwards.

Zaerra will move to where Irob is and she too will investigate three area to see if she can see any signs of the door.
Rolled in character sheet as I'm on my phone. 4 for investigation
Standing next to the cooking area, Rask watches her fellow party members searching the room. She decides to join Yakeerk, not to aim arrows but to search for striations on the floor which might indicate a secret door.
Investigation: 3
Zaerra finds nothing to indicate a secret door.
Rask, because she was looking specifically for striations, finds some on the floor at the wall close to the south west corner.
