You follow the path to the steps, then Theodor hits his shield, a bright light sears into the twilight gloom.
The octopus raises its head and it's red gimlet eyes wince at the glow from the shield. It pulls itself half out of the water determined to fulfil it orders to destroy intruders.
DM rolls for initiative Party 4, Octopus 6.
A red and white tentacle encrusted with fungi lashes out at the light. Theodors armour deflects the attack, his surcoat begins to glow, the litany moving along the embroidery.
Let's out his war Yelp! [Everyone within 10' ft of Krack gets advantage on their attacks] and shoots at the Octopus, while he admires its many tentacles.
You hear a voice chanting in your ear and the embroidery on your robe glows, you feel protected. You hit the octopus below his left eye. He stares at you then squints at Theodor. It is angry. You wade to behind the Octopus seawater up to your knees. Feeling more confident.
DM to Krack
Your arrow pierces the main body of the Octopus, it is badly injured but still writhes to bring up its tentacles.

You can all smell the decay coming off the octopus, it is already dead and just kept alive by the spores feeding on it. It seems to have a problem with grasping things. Something to take advantage of.
The octopus thrashes about in a frenzy, blood pouring from its body, its gimlet eyes shut, finally settling with four tentacles under the main body and four tentacles free to attack.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Veneer
Stays back from the fight watching. Thinking that there isn't much he can do at the moment. He checks the creature out, wondering if it even can be killed.
Up close, Theodor now sees the horrible decay and feels sorry for the original beast now raised from the dead.
Kracks draconic roar empowers Theodor, like he can feel the raw power of a dragon behind him, he swings at the cephalopod wishing to return it back to the ocean, a silvery white light covers his Warhammer.
The octopus lets out a final scream, pushes it self upwards one last time, then collapses into a heap.
Maybe you should cut its head from the rest of the body just to make sure that it stays dead as the spores on it are softly glowing. Let the ocean deal with the body.
So you can find your way in the cave system, here is a map showing designated chambers to explore. You are currently by the steps at the back of B1. The light coming off of Theodors shield is strong enough to see by. You don't yet need torches.
B2: This fifty-foot-high cavern is a forest of multicoloured fungi, ranging from tiny filament to tree sized mushrooms. A natural staircase of stone columns along the east wall leads up to ten feet to a higher cave area in the north. Water burbles down from that upper cave and collects in a large pool. Two small mushroom like people are working amid the mushrooms near the pond mulching the mushrooms with rich compost. That must be Molen and Kraz according to Tarak. A sickening smell, like sulphur, hangs in the air, it makes you a little queasy.
Out of the corner of your eye, you swear that a violet mushroom was moving towards you. But each time you look it is still again, soon it will be within touching range.
You put down the heavy compost bags from Tarak to show that you are traders here on behalf of Tarak and the Temple.

Trilaxa reaches out mentally, sending discordant thoughts into what little remains of the creatures mind.
Dissonant whispers: Wis Save DC 13, 13 psychic damage save for half, and it runs away if it fails the save, drawing opportunity attacks.
