Lost Mines of Phandelver by kyleh2486

You are able to swing open the secret door. Across the room. you can make out a door on the opposite wall. But standing at the door, back to you is a figure in a scarlet wizard's robe. The cloak is up and held in one hand is a tall wooden staff, resting on the ground. The figure is murmuring something quietly. 

The walls of this bedchamber are covered with drapes of scarlet cloth. The furnishings include a small writing desk with matching chair, a comfortable-looking bed, and a wooden chest at the foot of the bed.

Vah'Lhorn will approach the cloaked figure, not trying to hide his presence. "What is that you're mumbling?"

Yuri drops his sword, trying to look less threatening...if a chainmail clad half-elf welding a sword that's just entered your bedroom can look less threatening.

Is everyone entering the room? 

Vah'Lhorn, it sounds like a spell incantation he's repeating. He does not turn or acknowledge your presence. 

((DM asks 'is everyone entering the room'... Players all take a step backwards. >_<))

If the figure doesn't notice their entrance, Yuri will take the opportunity to look over any papers or books on the desk within the room.

Kim does inter the room. Following behind Gramgran. Hearing the spell she attempts to recognize it.

She starts to form ice on her left palm, but keeping it behind her hand. (I don't want to scare him if he sees me preparing a spell,  but I better be ready).

Morpetor will Wait in the hallway as it seems like they have things handled.

Kim and Vah'Lhorn can tell the incantation is gibberish. 

Yuri, you find various papers and notes are stacked neatly on the desk, mostly consisting of larno's written orders to apothecaries and alchemists in nearby settlements for more materials for his workshop. You also find also find a letter signed with the Black Spider's symbol.

Without hearing a ruckus come from the room, Morpetor stick his head in to see what’s going on. 

He eases himself in, inspecting the room.

Yuri passes the black spider note to Morpetor before turning his attention to the chanting Redbrand. Assuming that the others are aware of what he is doing, Yuri instead looks back to the papers on the desk, going over them carefully for any addition correspondence with the black spider symbol.

Investigation - 15

Vah'Lhorn refreshes False Life on himself (6 temp hp), then moves up to the chanting individual. His shield stowed but his grip on the new sword at his hip, he places a hand firmly on the man's shoulder and says "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"

After noticing the note, Kim waits in line to read it. Once she does an idea is birthed. 

"We could possibly use this letter. He was told to capture us. Since we have some redbrand clothes, two of us could act like a redbrand and the others can have fake manacles on. Gramgran and Yuri would have to be captives if we tried this since he has clearly seen you two. If we could pull it off and find Iarno it would be great, however, that is assuming he will return or that we can find him again. Yuri, Gramgran, based on your interaction with him, did it seem like he would be fleeing?"

the man does not move. He does not turn, talk or move as you touch him. He stands feet from the door, back still toward the group. 

"I know not what he is about... My best guess is that he guards this door in some manner. Gramgran, I cannot understand his chanting, know you of anything he mutters? I am feeling that a swift blow with my shield may be the safest course of action"

"A good idea Kim. Those manacles would be for appearance though, right? Next time I see Iarno..."

Yuri trails off, looking at the chanting Redbrand and frowning. Moving around the room, he tries to get a look at the man's face. If it is covered by a good, Yuri will pull it back.

OOC Does Yuri recognise the man? Thinking back to our meeting with Iarno, I have a suspicion that he's under some kind of spell.
