“Mr Barthen, what do you know about the group of people in red that look to be extorting this town in the name of ‘protection’?”
Barthen tells you they arrived in town about a year ago under the pretense of protection for goblin raiders living on the outskirts of town. They helped keep the town safe for a little while until the goblins realized they were out matched and the raids ceased. Since then, they continue to collect their protection money from the local businesses.
Yuri waves to Gramgran and jogs to meet her. "So the Lionshield Coster deal in weapons if you want some added steel, and they paid us for the return of their goods."
He takes the pouch and counts out 10gp and hands it to the she elf. "What did you find out from Sildar's contact?"
“Well that rascal got distracted me with a nice young lady and snuck out while I was talking, but she did tell me about those ruffians from before.” Gramgran will retell Yuri and Ren about the job. “Now I know that we need to find Gundren, but afterwards I think we should help these people out. What do you two think?”
"We are here now, why not take care of it while we are here. I would hate to go off knowing what we are leaving behind. I don't want to see what we may come back too."

“Spirit. In every language in all the Realms, surface and Underdark, in every time and every place, the word has a ring of strength and determination. It is the hero's strength, the mother's resilience and the poor man's armor. It cannot be broken and it cannot be taken away.”
Kim speaks to Morpetor, "I sorta understand that you are upset, but is this not common practice? Think about it. We have armies and city guards in other places. They are not always fighting off enemies, however they are still paid by our taxes to protect the city. Should they be disbanded every time a battle is done? Would this not lead to enemies striking when they notice the guards are no longer there for protection? I do agree that there can be a level of extortion going on, however, if they can find a reasonable deal, I don't see any harm in this arrangement."
“Well, Ren, we know that nothing drastic will happen in the day or two that we’ll need to find Gundren, but in that time he could be tortured so much! Or even killed!” Gramgran gets a worried look on her face and she nervously touches her mace, before she realizes what she’s doing and says, “Oh yeah, I do need a different weapon. This thing,” she hefts the mace up a little, “is a lot heavier than I remember it being when I was younger.”
Yuri shrugs, "You're both right. We should do something about these thugs while we're here, but... Gundren is the reason why we came here, and if the condition we found Sildar in is any indication..." His voice trails off.
Yuri takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, centring himself and trying to deal with their issues one by one. "Ok, let's head back to the Coster. Gramgran gets a new weapon, we ask some questions of Linene about these redshirted thugs. We need to speak to Kim and Morpetor before we decide what to do, but I'd like to see if Sildar has any information about Gundren as well."
Realising he's come full circle without really deciding one way or the other, he shrugs again. "I guess I'm saying you're both right, let's just wait and gather a little more information?"
Following the boys back to the weapons shop, Gramgran says, “Hello dear, I was wondering if you had anything a bit lighter than this old thing? Perhaps a hand axe? I’d even trade this mace for it if you want.” If she looks at the mace, it looks like an antique age weapon that has never been used.
From across the plaza, you can see a small shrine made of stones. You can recognize the bust as Tymora, the goddess of luck and good fortune. A young elf woman attends to the shrine, sweeping dust and leaves from around the base. At the center of the base, in front of the statue, is a brass brazier.
Morpetor, seeing the shrine, walks over to the young elf - leaning on his quarterstaff more like a walking stick than a weapon - smiles, and engages the woman in conversation.
“Hello, my name is Morpetor, are you the caretaker of this shrine? I would love to know more?”
Ooc- in the nature of saving time, Morpetor would politely listen and ask of her duties, where she is from, and how she enjoys life here in this town.
Linene will evenly trade Gramgran for her former hardware, noting that antique weapons look good in the shop. She puts a grind to the axe and hands it over to you.
the Elven woman turns to speak with you. She takes a stance much like yours with her broom. She introduces herself as Sister Garaele. "I am the take taker here at the shine, the only one in Phandalin. It is a shrine to Tymora, the goddess of luck and good fortune. I came here soon after the town became inhabited again, decades ago. I enjoy living here. There are plenty of people in need of the goddess's help here." When asked about the Redbrands, she pauses. "They don't pay me much mind. I know some of the shopkeepers around feel like they're taking too much for the protection they offer." She chuckles at the offer to buy the temples brazier. "I cannot sell what is not mine dear boy. This is part of the shrine for offerings to the Goddess."

Morpetor to Kim “I’m not mad or upset. Just soaking up information.”
Turning to the store owner, “ On second thought, I’ll take you up on your offer for that Statuette. 40gp you say? Done.”
After making his transaction, Morpetor turns back to Kim “Ready? I need to find me some herbs and incense.”
