As Vydar and others near the wagon take a closer look the crates are still in good shape and have not been tampered with. Inside you find the following:
12 metal things, each with 6 spikes, flat on the other, with two rings.
2 ropes
6 mountaineer harnesses
A hammer, pitons, and various climbing gear
6 Warm Sealskin Fur Jackets, very long with attached built-in hats and gloves.
You see nothing else when searching the wagon, and perhaps some items were taken by the river. Vydar does remember she had a bag of coins and....
Others study the bank further. There were perhaps two dozen archers at the bank. There is also plenty of room to hide in the rafters of the covered bridge, particularly for one skilled in stealth or illusion. That attack likely came at night, after sunset.
Paevira will note the expedition supplies and the tracks which seem to point to Giants being involved, but is curious as to the archers. Couldn’t be Giants hiding on the bridge for the ambush. Who would be working with Giants of all things? She will suggest the secure the equipment and hopes the key to the mystery might be on the maps fromher note book that seemed to have survived the soaking.
” after Burying Mrs Storm we should see what the maps have to tell us. Maybe they will point us in the right direction. She certainly has brought the right equipment for a serious exploration, maybe we can fulfill her last mission”
( does the wagon look repairable or maybe able to modify the remains into a 2 wheel cart to haul the equipment with?)
Lev has some training and equipment for vehicle repair. ( Paevira: Give me an Intelligence Roll or Survival Roll with Advantage for help DC 11) Lev holds Natalie Storm's Hat.No other possessions have been taken from her body yet.
The arrows you recover are for a short bow. They are poorly made, likely Goblin in origin.
Vydar continues to seem puzzled as the cart is searched, seemingly pondering something from his time with Storm. He still has the black dagger.
One map still in ok shape is a map of Allansia, but the next map, likely something more specific is torn out. As it is the rest of the book seems pretty illegible. Ink, water, mud, and fish have damaged it severely.
There is 1 map after the Allansia map that looks somewhat legible as well. It seems to have 9 locations marked with a campfire symbol or X. There are 4 duplicate maps, and then 2 pages appear torn out.
Iólinder followed the others cautiously when there came no reply to his booming voice. The box on the bridge, Paevira mentioned, contained fishing supplies. It struck Iólinder as curious that someone would leave behind all this gear. He was no fisherman but he knew that anyone who took fishing seriously would not be so careless with their tools. A slight chill came down his spine. The entire ordeal was... off somehow.
It did not take long for them to come across the sight nobody was expecting. Natalie Storm, the esteemed professor and the one Iólinder had come all this way to meet, was dead. Her lifeless body was gently swaying in the water some distance down river. The others already waded in to drag her corpse onto shore and collect whatever else of personal belongings there were. Iólinder through the shock merely observed them, not really registering them: a hat, a dagger, a book. There was also an overturned cart and supplies scattered about but Iólinder paid no mind to those.
Paevira mentioned something about Giants. The sudden mention of something so out of the ordinary snapped Iólinder back to his senses in time to notice that someone was holding what looked like a bunch of maps. 'Could I see that?' He asked, wanting to contribute to the murder investigation. 'I always liked maps.'
It took him a moment to realise what he was saying. 'What I mean is, I- I'm good with maps. Studied plenty of them during my time as an acolyte. There may be something that could tell us more about this-'His eyes darted around the area and swallowed hard, 'situation.'
Iólinder has proficiency with Cartographer's Tools. Does that influence any potential check to inspect the maps?
Off in the distance on the wagon side upriver, Amdaeng sees some movement. It blends in fairly well but when it moves again, maybe a small horse, some 500 feet away
Amdaeng descends and heads towards the animal...missing the city streets....
Recalling something from his time spent with Storm, the dark elf climbs onto the wagon and pries open the board beneath the drivers seat. Then he pulls out a small box and checks its contents. Seeing everything is still inside he climb’s back out of the cart.
At the mention of giants, he re examines the prints around the cart. What would giants want with Natalie? Did she anger them somehow? His brow furrows. Then he looks around for equine tracks. Charlie has to have gone somewhere. That donkey seemed to have been Natalie’s best friend. She wouldn’t want him to be lost or mistreated.
As he does this he says, “This box may have some information, but before I look at it does anyone see signs of where the donkey went?”
Vydar: Jackpot!: Under the seat is more than you expected. Not only is there a bag of money, there is another tomb and other items.
Amdaeng is nowhere to be seen. While everyone was looking at the "crime scene" she had wandered off. Amdaeng sneaks up on the animal. As you get closer, you see it eating some grass by the bank. It seems a bit skittish, but doesn't sense you. It is a donkey. It still has a leather harness on for pulling a cart or wagon. It is unharmed.
With no one answering his question, and his vision being handicapped by the sun (Curse his dark elf eyes). He decides to take a look at the tome, before embarking on a wild donkey chase. (After all, he has no idea that Amdaeng already found Charlie.) He hadn't recalled this being under there. Perhaps it holds some enlightening information...and maybe a spell or two, though the likely hood of that is slim. This is not the first time he wishes he'd been born a sorcerer. Having to keep track of all his spells is such a pain.
The footprints are concerning, but with the red-head's comment about burying Natalie, he will wait on following them. He feels a pang of guilt when he realizes that he'd been prepared to just leave her body where he'd placed it. He hadn't had the ability to bury Nera, so burying Natalie hadn't crossed his mind.
Trying to ignore that feeling, he opens up the book which causes him to actually get a look at the still bloody dagger. He bites his lip, then quickly bends down and swishes some of the blood off in the river. The thing is Kris bladed, something he hadn't seen often, not to mention the color...He'll have to examine that farther after he takes a glance at this tome.
(We'll see if this works. Sending a link!!! Let me know on other forum if you can't see anything)

William Brackwater: Human Fighter - The Windward Isles
Tyrgram, the Butterfly Knight: Dwarf Warlock - Secret of Greenwold
Iòlinder Corrach: Half Elf War Cleric - Allansia Adventure
Valerius Sergius Publius: Dhampir Paladin - Vae Victus
The maps are damaged and surprisingly, maybe intentionally vague.
Paevira survival roll to aid : 14
If nobody else wants to loot the rest of Natalie Storms stuff before burial, Paevira will do it. No sense enriching the worms
( where are we located on this map? At the circle x? Or not on this map )

(No, at the bottom left on trail map, but to your irritation, the maps are not very good)
Amdaeng looked at the animal quizzically.....she hadn't come across too many ungulates in her previous existence.
" Hello, I'm just gonna lead you back.....ok?", she said softly.
Animal Handling- 10
He is at first startled by her voice as she very very quiet, but he finds her voice calming. He walks over to her. Still chewing on some grass.
Carefully searching Natalie while trying to not upset anyone you note that her nice hat has already been recovered. In addition, you find:
Leather Whip
Crossbow
Utility belt
5 well made crossbow bolts
Monocle
Magnifying glass
Compass
Various fishing supplies in vest pockets.
The wound on her back from the black dagger is concerning. The skin is rotted, the muscle dissolved. (Necrotic damage)

Seeing the nasty necrotic wound Paevira will call out to Vydar,
” Mr Vydar, you might want to be extra careful with that black dagger. It seems either it is coated in poison, or it has some evil magics in it.”
after gathering her things, she will thoughtfully cross the womans arms and straighten her clothing as best she can.
