"Looks like the goblin didn't get away after all. Who wants to lead the way... I wouldn't want to presume." Zarbyn stands ready to follow further into the cavern but doesn't take the lead.

The traps appear to have been sprung. They are metal sharp claws held open with a spring(like a bear trap) and they closed when a pressure plate underneath was stepped on, killing the victim. It appears that the traps are new. They have no rust, the springs recently oiled, and were concealed under a layer of dirt, and grime in the dark tunnel. The traps are large and very heavy, probably designed to kill even a being as large as a giant or bear.
Lev looks down on the dead goblin with disgust, then wipes the blood off his glaive onto the goblin's shirt. Goblins, the only goblins he ever knew were ones he wishes he never met. So, he has little qualms with killing these ones, especially knowing what they've done.
Turning, he looks to see Vydar putting on the hat and then attempting to walk down after Zarbyn who's already started down the cavern. "Idiots," he says, moving to stop Vydar and then looking after Zarbyn. Well, Zarbyn hadn't taken any damage, but Vydar on the other hand looks about ready to pass out, "Drink that potion. Unless you have a death wish." He nots to Iolinder, who was already offering the healing potion to the drow.
Sighing, he looks to the others slowly realizing that he and Vydar are the only two who actually took damage. That's good... well, sort of. He touches his shoulder where the arrowhead is still embedded in his flesh. Well, that's nothing he can't deal with. At least he knows some techniques to help the healing process and overcome the pain for the time being. But he'll save that for later, no point in wasting it when they are probably going to walk right into another fight.
After Vydar had taken the health potion, Lev turns and begins following Zarbyn, only to notice Iolinder looking at the goblin's leather armor. He raises an eyebrow just slightly, not really considering that the armor could contain anything other than filth, so instead of asking what it is that is so interesting he moves forward. "Wait for the others," he says to Zarbyn. "Spreading out is a good way to get killed."
He looks back, debating on whether or not to raise his voice to encourage the others to hurry up. He decides against it, instead looking down at the trap. "Clearly they expected that giant to show up. Or perhaps those wolves are after them too." He huffs, "We've really stepped into a mess haven't we."
He looks around the cavern, looking ahead for more threats as they wait for the rest of the group to catch up.
Immediately seeing the traps, Vydar pauses at the mouth of the tunnel. Then he flinches when Iolinder approaches him shoving a potion towards him, "I'm fi--GAH!"He begins to turn down Iolinder's offer, only for a pain to spike through his side. He scowls at the ground before snatching the bottle from the older man. Still not making eye contact, and feeling ridiculous with the hat on, he mutters, "Thanks." Then without drinking it, he begins to walk forward again, only for Lev to block his path.
Seriously?! Now both Lev and Iolinder are treating him like a child! He glares at Lev for several moments before flicking the cork out of the bottle and raising the potion to his mouth. He downs it, then starts coughing. That stuff tastes nasty. Wiping his mouth, he tosses the bottle to the side, letting it shatter on the stone floor of the cave. "Alright. I'm fine. Can we get on with this now?" He steps around Lev, intending to follow Zarbyn down the tunnel. He hadn't realized he'd how uneven his breathing had been until the potion started to take effect. The wound on his side stops bleeding and heals completely leaving only a thin scar visible through the tear in his shirt. It even pushes the arrow from his shoulder, which falls to the ground with a clatter as he stalks after Zarbyn.
Without responding to the man, Vydar continues past Zarbyn only pausing just before the traps. He looks over the path, trying to figure a safe way though.
Vydar is fully healed and feels his cantankerous self again.
Looking closer at the two clamp tracks, it seems you could walk over the two dead bodies. The traps are already sprung. You also do not see any further traps along the passage. The narrow passage seems to branch up ahead and go right or left. Vydar has not yet activated Storms hat as these traps have already been discovered.
In addition, it seems the bear has only been dead a short time (much less than 1 hour). The goblin, in the last few minutes.
(OOC Unless you are exploring cavern 1 more, I'll move you all into the second chamber.)
Paevira will move forward searching for more traps as she goes. She will comment on how to was nice of the goblin to set of the trap to ensure our safety.
Paevira quietly walks past the dead bear and goblin. Gruesome. Heavy traps with sharp bladed teeth.
She looks both ways, it appears the passage to goes forward and then turns to the north. The passage south seems to open into another cavern. She sees no traps....... no traps at all.
you have heard of the cult of the dragon king, before you heard the name in Natalie Storms Journals. Cult members have often been opponents in the fights you have been in. Their masters training them in the art of hand to hand combat. They are often known for using dirty fighting tactics (throwing sand in opponents eyes, poison on their blades, etc.). Surely these goblins are underlings at best, just doing their masters bidding.
You know from your master that the cult's primary goal is to resurrect "the Dragon King", an ancient and powerful entity. The story goes that if it is resurrected, it would cause widespread chaos and domination. You also know that the cults legendary master is indeed, Malbordus, but you doubt that he could still be alive after so long. Yet, Natalie Storm also mentioned him. Is it possible that the cult seeks to gain the artifacts and raise the dragon king itself, not just some black dragon? You also know that the cult is based in Port Blacksand, the City of Thieves.
If no one stops him, the bad tempered elf with walk strait over the bodies. He can't help but chuckle bitterly at Paevira's comment when she follows after him. He too looks around once more for traps before proceeding.
Iólinder's face turned sour for a split second when Vydar took the potion but refrained from drinking it. True, he could provide the medicine: he could not force anyone to actually take it but to be so reckless with one's own life, it struck a sensitive chord with him. A sigh of relief escaped his lips when Iólinder saw Lev take a direct approach to get the dark elf to drink the potion. When Lev gave him a nod, Iólinder gave an affirmative one back. At least someone around here had some common sense.
The others made haste to explore the cave further. The goblin that had met its demise in the darkness of the cavern had run into an enormous bear trap. There were several of the contraptions spread all over the deeper part of the cave. Before venturing that way, Iólinder gave the dead giant a quick look over. It had been similarly killed in a trap for the collapse had not been natural: someone had tampered with the support beams.
When he passed the dead goblins to join the others, Iólinder noticed something peculiar. Something that was quite out of place on some random goblins: a symbol. Not just any symbol but that of the Cult of the Dragon King! He cut out the piece of fabric and held it high to show the others. 'These goblins are with the Cult of the Dragon King.'He said. 'We should expect more of the cults as well as more traps both common and magical deeper down. Speaking of.'
Iólinder dugs into his backpack and retrieved once more some of Professor Storm's papers. 'In particular look out for these.'He held up a paper titled "Traps, Riddles, Glyphs" that showed a bunch of drawings of traps and how to avoid them.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zarbyn will take Iolinder up on his offer to study the papers of Professor Storm. He will take a minute to closely examine the drawings of the traps and how to avoid them.
When everyone appears to be ready to move further into the cave's depths, Zarbyn will try to use what he's just learned from Iolinder and Professor Storm's notes.

"The traps have been a boon so far as it's mostly our enemies who have tripped them but to keep it that way we'll need to keep a sharp eye out." Zarbyn looks around at the cave they're in, paying particular interest to his surroundings. "The presence of so many traps does suggest this is one of the locations of one of the artifacts we're seeking."

As Vydar passes Paevira and takes a look, the cooridor to the south is not lit with torches as were the first two. At the far end of the cavern, he sees some small mushrooms of some sort near the water. So far he does not see any other traps either.
It appears there are fresh tracks leading to the east and then up. There are no tracks leading south. There is a thick coat of dust which has not been disturbed in a very long time.
Zarbyn also studies the two traps. The spring was strong enough to kill something as large as a giant. Whomever set these knew this group was coming and had traps to deal with large creatures like bears and giants.. the two bodies (Bear and Goblin have not been dead for very long. They were crudely covered with dirt and rubble from the cave, and likely not to difficult to spot if you were looking, but isn't this their home territory? The traps that Storm identified are old, have have likely been here for a very long time. These traps are new.
(Using the professors notes: Any further perceptions/ investigation rolls, and disarm rolls are at Advantage in cache 1 if the traps are old)
(To clarify for everyone: Storms journal (6 years ago and 5 years ago), she suspects the cult of the dragon king, Malbordus is part of this cult....and, he has been influenced and empowered unnaturally by the Snake Demon Myurr. Malbordus failed the first time to acquire the 5 artifacts, but discovered there was a second set in these mountains. At first, Storm suspects two factions of the cult, but later, decides it's the cult of the dragon king vs the Snow Witch, Shareela. Amdaeng may know a few things as well about the cult, and Zarbyn may know a few things about the Snow Witch).

Paevira will cautiously scout south into the cavern. In addition to inspecting closely she will toss some loose stones down the narrow part of the corridor leading into the cavern sensing the trap setters seem to like to use the narrow passage as a funnel to the traps.
As Paevira carefully throws some small rocks on the undisturbed ground, she sees no traps and nothing is activated. She is pretty confident and carefully starts moving forward. Getting through the thinner section, it opens up into a small room. There are no torches here and no one has been here for a very long time. A small pool of water is to her south and in a small alcove grows some blue mushrooms. There is another small thin passage heading toward the east, thinning to about 2 feet across. (Likely will need to go sideways here)
Vydar
Vydar feels something warm on his forehead. Instinctively reaching up, he notes that the stone on Storms hat feels unusually warm.
Zarbyn sees Paevira throw some pebbles down the south passage before deciding to explore further and gets out his tinderbox and a torch. He was not elven and couldn't see in the dark so he would need some light to continue in that direction.
"Give me just a sec and I'll have a torch lit. Amdaeng and I are right behind you Paevira."
Once his torch is lit he will follow Paevira and hope Amdaeng and the others aren't far behind.
