Map of Garden District: Garden is g1: Most of the party has been in the garden once and met the Leafbrights.
RUEL
Ruel has not heard of leafbrights specifically but certainly has encountered other fey "guardians" of holy sites or artifacts in the past. Likely, he would not recommend doing something to increase their ire.
Zarbyn
Fortunately, Zarbyn has uncovered a plot developed by Warik to destroy the Twice Shy. One of two pirate ships have been destroyed. Yet, the one with the female captain remains. He is not certain if one ship is strong enough to destroy the Shy, but.....it certainly makes him feel uneasy. Also.....side note: Zarbyn is the only party member with even a hint of knowledge of where Shareellas ice palace is hidden. This is from your background hook story and the trapper you worked for. If you need me to find it for you, let me know.
VYDAR
When Vydar gets near Lev, he feels an almost hot sensation on his chest (where the flame pendant of the thawing heart is resting against his chest). Something has changed, he senses the items are feeding off each other. Also, no one has inspected Icebane yet.
Before he can make his way off of the rooftop, Vydar finds himself staring down at the aftermath of the fight with Werik. He hadn't even had the chance to step in before it was over. Why did this fight feel so short? He'd expected more from this. It felt to easy... While he can't exactly say he has a problem with that, he isn't sure how to feel about it.
As he climbs down from he roof to approach his comrades; including the man who seemed to join them out of nowhere; the adrenaline from lighting the ships on fire fades, and full weight of what had just happened washes over him. Lira was gone, and Iolinder, and the others... how many were they going to lose before this was over? This had started out as a simple quest to avenge Natalie, and now it seems like a tangled mess that... should they fail could cost even more innocent lives.
The dark elf's red eyes wearily look over the bodies of Werik and his brother. He has no interest in taking any of the items here, Icebane was the only thing that mattered. Eventually, he realizes that Lev has picked up the knife, as he approaches the other elf, he feels the red pendant suddenly flair with heat against his chest. This causes him to flinch, then frown slightly before looking at Lev.
"Hey, can I see Icebane?"He sounds a bit more irritated than normal, though it doesn't seem directed at Lev. He pulls the pendant out of his shirt as he holds his other hand out expectantly towards Lev.
Jherak was enjoying breakfast until the mention of having return to the garden district and deal with the freaky little Lotus guardians. He wondered if they should invest in a fly swatter.
As Vydar examines his Pendant, he notes that in the presence of Icebane, it has a new magical ability.
Flame Pendant of the Thawing Heart: (Vydar is wearing it)
This small pendant holds a flickering ember sealed in crimson crystal. It remains warm to the touch even in the most freezing of temperatures. Legends say it was forged by Nicodemus as a safeguard against Shareella’s endless winter—one spark of defiance against the Snow Witch’s reign. It was stolen by Malbordus, the child of darkness and has been lost for a century.
While wearing and attuned to the Flame Pendant, you gain the following benefits:
Cold Resistance
You have resistance to cold damage.
Ember Against the Freeze
You have advantage on saving throws against effects that would impose the paralyzed condition due to cold or ice magic (such as freezing spells, supernatural blizzards, or Shareella’s powers).
Sense the Snow Witch
The pendant glows with faint firelight whenever Shareella the Snow Witch or her magic is within 120 feet of you. The glow intensifies the closer she is, becoming bright as a torch if she is within 30 feet.
Spark of Warmth (1/Day)
As a bonus action, you awaken the pendant’s inner flame, causing it to radiate comforting heat in a 10-foot radius aura centered on you for 1 minute.
While the aura lasts, you and friendly creatures of your choice within the aura gain the following benefits:
Advantage on saving throws against cold damage and cold-based magical effects
Advantage on saving throws against being charmed
This warmth feels like standing near a hearth in the dead of winter, pushing back not only the freezing air but the creeping enchantments woven into Shareella’s storm.
Once this property is used, it can’t be used again until the next dawn.
Scorching Ray against undead (Once per day)
In the day time: 4 rays, at night: 3 rays: You create four rays of holy fire and hurl them at targets within range. You can hurl them at one target or several. Make a ranged spell attack for each ray. On a hit, the target takes 2d6 fire damage. These only damage undead.
It now can shoot scorching ray out 1/day against undead.
Vydar assumes that Icebane, also gets stronger in the presence of the Pendant. When Vydar examines it, he immediately takes 11 damage (even if he does not touch it). (OOC: This is designed so a PC can only possess one of the artifacts)
ICEBANE: At first glance, Icebane appears to be a pale ivory shortsword carved from the fang of some immense ancient beast. Black veins run beneath its surface like smoke trapped in ice. The air around the blade is unnaturally cold, yet frost never forms upon it.
The weapon is +1.
When you hit a Fiend, Demon, or an Undead with this magic weapon, that creature takes an extra 1d6 Radiant damage. If the target has 25 Hit Points or fewer after taking this damage, it must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be destroyed.
In the presence of another of either the Flame Pendant of the Thawing Heart OR the Mirror of Thawing
Light. While you hold this weapon, it sheds Bright Light in a 20-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 20 feet.
Against Specific Targets: If you possess the Flame Pendant of the Thawing Heart or the Mirror of Thawing, take 2d6 damage when you touch it or examine it, including with magic.
Awakened state (if attuned)
Icebane becomes +2
Radiant damage increases to 2D6 against undead
The black veins within the blade ignite with white fire when it is drawn and attuned.
Lev nods to Vydar, handing the white dagger over without hesitation. He has no desire to keep something once owned by Werik, and honestly doesn’t have any desire to see anyone use it until it is needed.
As soon as Lev places the dagger in Vydar's Hand, the dark elf immediately lets out a sharp gasp and drops it onto the table. Shaking his hand, he glares at the thing, but continues to study it. Then he will explain to the group what it can do, and that the three artifacts clearly make each other stronger when in the proximity of each other. However, they seem to have some sort of a safety mechanism that keeps a single person from wielding more than one.
Ruel brought from his reverie by Vydars gasp of pain, rushes to help, with the words of a simple healing chat already on his lips. "That looked painful, perhaps I could be of assistance". Ruel tried again to prove his worth to his new comrades.
Whilst he brought the remainder of the healing words to mind, he vocalised his thoughts "We must get a petal of Black Lotus and time is not on our side. I have encountered such fey guardians before and have have heard rumours of what these particular beasts are capable of" It was a street rumour that Lord Azzur used these Fey beasts for public executions.
"A frontal assault may not be the best course of action, we should try to secure a petal some other way." Ruel looked uneasy as he pondered what some other way could involve, thievery was not something a sword saint should involve himself in but would an evil deed done for a good purpose still be an evil deed.
In such a wretched hive of scum and villainy such as Port Blacksand, questions of morality such as this were an abstract concept as live was cheap but Ruel hoped that persuasion was the option they went for but was knew deep within his being he would secure the petal by any means.
His hands wrung the whip again and once again wished Natalie were here, her pragmatic view on life always soothed his tortured soul.
As the party gathers for breakfast and to determine the best way to get the black lotus petal, Vydar has identified that the two artifacts in their possession are quiet powerful, but can't be held by the same person. (Description is above)
There are many rumors swirling about town this morning about the mysterious ship that exploded in the harbor last night. Everyone seems to know something happened...but no two stories match exactly.
There is a smell in the air of burned tar and black powder. At least it eliminates the normal smell of rot and scum in the port.
One person said he heard Nobody is allowed near Herring Wharf, due to public safety.
“It weren’t no accident.” A fishmonger claims the destroyed vessel was carrying enough powder to sink half the harbor. She swears someone sabotaged it before it could leave port.
There are bodies of unidentified pirates washed ashore.
"The harbor's cursed now", some superstitious locals whisper.
Some say it is the revenge from yesterdays dock fight, between The Ghost Corsair (Whom the party knows as Zanbar Bone), the wizard Niccodemus, and the two gangs. "The ghost corsair is getting his revenge, killing crimson legion and pirates alike!"
Halbert notes that there are a lot more town guard patrols, walking the streets than usual.
Jherak
It bothers Jherak that two of the archers on the roof escaped. He is certain their time in Blacksand is limited before Crimson will seek revenge. They way the gang operates, he feels certain they will attack today, so leaving the city as soon as they can is certainly in their best interests. (Via Niccodemus teleporting them)
He also worries they would be stopped at any gate or port exit by the legion.
