Hello, I am new to DMing, but I have played DnD for several years now. I want to get started by running a oneshot here for mostly new players. We will be playing the oneshot "A Most Potent Brew" by Winghorn Press, unless most of the people who are interested have already played that.
I will take 4 to 5 players. To apply create a character:
Level 1
Basic Rules or Player's Handbook (No homebrew)
Point Buy or Standard Stats
Average Health
Starting Equipment
Then post:
How long you've been playing (I will be prioritizing new players)
Character Name
Character Race
Character Class
Then use this prompt to introduce your character to the party:
You walk into a quiet tavern called The Dirty Rat, brushing off the mud from your travels. You head to the bar to get some food and a room. The barkeep notices you. "Hello there, drinks are 5 coppers, meals 2 silvers, lodging for the night is 5 silvers. What do you want? You know what, you have the look of an adventurer 'bout you. I can waive your room and meal if you help take care of an issue my supplier is having, over at the Wizard Tower Brewery. Why don't you talk to those three over there? They are workin' on putting a party together to deal with it. Talk to Glowkindle at the Brewery if you decide to go." You look over and see a human, dwarf, and elf wearing worn equipment all sitting around a table, talking about the quest.
If you've played this oneshot before, include that on your application.
Torrel smiles at the Bar keep as he steps toward the party that has gathered, He shifts his pack and bow as he turns as not to bump other patrons. Torrel approaches the table with a bright smile , " Good Eve , may I say , what a splendid host we have, be it free Meals and Board.. Ah yes I am Torrel.. and you all are ? " Torrell extends his hand first to the Dwarf.
( you are greeted by an average sized wood elf , wearing a pack with a bow over his shoulder and a quiver stuffed with arrows. In his off hand he carries a quarterstaff. His cloths are not new nor old and of earth tones on browns and greens . upon a closer examination you'll note his chest piece is of padded leather.)
I’ve been playing D&D/Pathfinder for a long time, decades, but I love it. Never played the one you mentioned would enjoy a short adventure…
‘The barkeep of The Dirty Rat tavern offered to waive my room & board fee if I talk to someone named Glowkindle at their supplier the Wizard Tower Brewery about taking care of an issue they’re having. He said I have the look of an adventurer. Let’s see that’d be 3 silver for a couple drinks an a meal plus 5 silver for a room, 8 silver total than, well I’ve got a give this new adventurer thing a try, what’s the worst it could be eh? Is that all an adventurer makes? Must not be too hard then.’
Fjeörn swaggers over to the table a big confident grin on his face. He grabs a chair spins it around and takes a seat,“Well whaddya think the issue is over at the Brewery fellas?”

The dwarf shakes your hand. "Names Gralen, and these are Halegh and Kagren." Pointing to the Elf and Human in turn. Kagren looks over Torrel "You look like a proper adventurer. We aren't really adventurers, but we are willing to do anything for our favorite ale. They'll be running out soon if we don't."
How long you've been playing (I will be prioritizing new players) since '78 or so, played solid through 3.5, skipped 4th and went with a different system, came back to to DnD about 2 yrs ago.
The door of the tavern opens, in steps a dwarf? Not as wide built as most of his kin, maybe a little taller and lanker looking. Pulls the hood of his dark green, weathered cloak back and approaches the bar.

The dwarf pulls his pack from his back, sets it down. Reaches into a pouch on his belt, counts out out five silver and sets it on the bar. Food and ale, keep the ale coming till the coin is gone if you please. Picks up his pack and heads to the table the barkeep indicated. Human, dwarf and and elf, thinks to himself this sounds like some sort of bad joke, a human, dwarf and elf walk into a bar, he chuckles. Walks up to the table and knods, addresses the dwarf in his native tongue - Hear you've got a problem at a brewery. I like a good ale, heck I've even been know to like a bad one at that, and I don't like problems. Switching to the tongue of the elves and looking at the human, What's the job?
((OOC - I understand you're looking for newer players but if you have room for one old vet then I'd appreciate the consideration.))

Kathleen walks into the bar, looking sort of like some kind of tourist. She looks around at the walls and the surroundings, waving to some patrons that do catch her eye as she heads to the bar. She would have had the air of some excited traveler of drifter had it not been for her well maintained white armor and the collection of Martial weapons on her. To contrast with the signs of being someone who spent most of their time exploring and adventuring, her facial features have a clear air of nobility to them. Kath greets the barkeep and places 3 silver on the counter. She replies, her voice upbeat and cheery, "You got that right. I am a bit of an adventurer. I'm out to travel the world and visit all sorts of places. For free food and a room, I wouldn't mind checking out the brewery problem. Sounds interesting. In the meantime, can you get me something sweet and refreshing to drink? The long journey over to this town got me thirsty. Not super in the mood for alcohol right now though. Also could really go for a nice hearty meal; something with a lot of meat. Now I think I'll go see what those guys are up to." She points at the table that the barkeep pointed her to.
Kathleen walks up to the table and greets the trio of the human, the dwarf and the other elf, "Hi! Barkeep told me you guys were getting ready to check out a problem at the Wizard Tower Brewery. Sounds fun. I wanna come with."

Kagren(the human) replies "Don't quite know yet, we were still trying to get up the courage to go ask at the Brewery, plus get a few more people. You're welcome to sit down while we argue over who's going."

How long you've been playing: I started 4 years ago, but I only played half a campaign, and I DM'd 3 times. I haven't played in over a year though, so I'm looking to start again.
Character Name: Flux Astra
Character Race: Blue Flame Fire Genasi (This is a homebrew if that's alright? It's the same as the original race, but the only difference is that as a bonus action, I can imbue a weapon (ex. dagger, arrow) with a 1d4 fire damage)
Character Class: Warlock Lv.1

It looks like we might have enough players now. Everyone in this thread is invited, I will post the campaign link later today, and well as the introduction and map links. I will be running the map on Roll20, but I will post a picture at least every combat session if some people are unable to access Roll20.

Question, 2014 or 2024 rules?
Will this be like an actual campaign/pbp thread or like one of the forum taverns?
