The 3rd bandit draws a scimitar and brings it down on Yuno but she blocks the overhead attack with her Right sword and swapping back the left-handed sword into a standard grip, she stabs the bandit between the ribs with it. With a loud groan the bandit drops dead. The moment he drops though, a bolt fired from the last bandit slams right into Yuno's gut. She lets out a short scream and hunches over, grasping the bolt and then yanks it out of her. This battle has done way more damage to her compared to the last group of bandits. Still it was her vs the last bandit now. She runs up and closes the distance. As the bandit drops his crossbow and draws a scimitar, Yuno taunts, "Just me an you now. You did a number on me with that crossbow. Let's see how you do face-to-face."
Round 5: Yuno (HP X ) Bandits (1 remaining; 11 HP each)
Scimitar4 vs Yuno: NAT20 Dmg: 10
Yuno Death Save: 10
Knowing that fighting Yuno head to head is not going to work he quickly throws sand in Yuno's eyes. Yuno screams and rubs her eyes trying to get the sand out. The bandit takes his chance and slashes Yuno's throat. Yuno gasps for air and clutches her throat but it's too late. Her strength leaves her. She falls to her knees and then face-plants on the ground.
Liam Stonehand sighing heavily, staring into his mug, “I didn’t want to drag anyone into this, least of all you two. But… I can’t do it alone. I’ve got to deal with them—The Ash Wolves. Seems they’ve got a hideout in Deadman’s Canyon, and I…” he trails off, staring at his drink for a moment “…I’ve got a history with them.”
Syrah Diavo looking up from her notes, her eyes narrowing with interest, “The Ash Wolves? The mercenaries-turned-bandits? I’ve heard whispers about them. Why does this concern you so personally, Liam?”
Liam gritting his teeth, clearly uncomfortable, “I used to run with them. A long time ago. Back when they were still mercs, doing jobs for coin. But they… changed. Turned on their own, started raiding, killing without honor. I walked away. But now…” he tosses a map onto the table, a crumpled paper showing a hidden route “…now I’ve got this. This is my own map from back in the day. Found a parchment rubbing on some scouts. That hideout—that was our base.”
Varnak Ravenwind lifting his head slowly from his book, his wrinkled face etched with curiosity, “And you intend to storm the den of bandits with just the three of us? Hah, bold. Suicidal, perhaps. But bold.” He leans back, stroking his beard thoughtfully.“ And what do you expect from me? My magic is not what it once was. The energy I draw from… it’s not the most stable.” His eyes gleam with something dark, hinting at the necrotic experiments he dabbles in.
Liam, fixing Varnak with a stern look, “I know you’ve still got power, old man. You’re the only one in town with enough experience to even pretendto take on something like this. Besides, this isn’t just a fight—it’s a chance to stop them from destroying everything.”
Syrahtilting her head, her expression unreadable as her sharp blue eyes flick between the two, “And what’s in it for me, Liam? Bandits aren’t exactly… my area of expertise.” She glances at her research notes scattered across the table. “I’m more interested in the rifts, the portals to other realms. But…” her lips curve into a slight smile “…power can be found in the strangest places.”
Liam, his voice gruff but sincere, “I won’t lie, Syrah. I need your magic. If those wolves are still anything like they used to be, brute force won’t be enough. And you—” he points at her “—you’ve got a talent for seeing things others don’t. If anything strange or unnatural comes out of that cave, I need someone who can deal with it.”
Varnakletting out a dry chuckle, “Strange and unnatural? Liam, you’re talking to me. You know my dabbling in necrotic energy could—let’s say—tilt the odds in our favor. Though, I must admit, I teeter close to the edge of what’s… acceptable.” His eyes narrow, as though considering the potential consequences. “But if this is about balance, keeping things from tipping into chaos, I can be convinced.”
Syrahleaning forward, her voice soft but filled with a dangerous curiosity, “So, you want us to take out your old bandit friends? I’ll help. But you’d better hope there’s more than just coin to gain from this. I don’t waste my talents on simple men with swords.” Her gaze flicks to Varnak. “Besides, something tells me wemight find something far more interesting hidden in that canyon than just bandits.”
Liamstanding and clenching his fists, “Whatever we find, we deal with it. I’m not proud of my past, but I won’t let the Ash Wolves burn more lives to the ground. If it means risking a little magic that flirts with danger, so be it. Are you both in?”
Varnakrising slowly, with a weary yet determined grin, “I suppose I could use a little excitement. This dusty tome won’t hold me forever.”
Syrahstanding gracefully, her eyes glowing faintly “I’m in. But I expect something… unusual. Let’s hope your bandits haven’t gotten too predictable.”
Liamnodding firmly, resolute “Good. Let’s take them down.”

“It’s a spell scroll of Witch Bolt, one that saved me in at least one encounter. I’d be happy to accept fifty gold pieces, or perhaps to bargain. If you have studded leather armor, I might trade this scroll with you. I think I have need of better armor — your local forest is a bit more dangerous than I am used to.”
Evelyn smiles at Cor, "Ah, a talented arcanist. This is a fine scroll and it's of a spell that I'm not familiar. I don't do this for many patrons but why don't you slide your scroll of witch bolt into one of these scroll cases here and grab that wooden sign over there. Yeah, the blank one with the jar of black paint. Here's a table for your products and an easel for your sign. You can have your own shop inside my shope. I'll even let you run the shop with no fees, until you make 1000 gp, then I'll take 10%."
Varnak burst through the shope doors like a clumsy oaf. "Evelyn, I'm here for my special orders." He turns to look at Cor setting up his sign. "Say, is that a wizard scroll you have for sale?" he opens the scroll case and says, "Witch Bolt. I've been looking for this piece of arcana. I'll pay you 50 gp for it." He swiftly pockets the scroll and leaves the 50 gp on your table.
Evelyn smiles again, "Well, if you make more, you always have a place here to sell your wares."
Not in Cor's travels to date has he met a shop-owner or a village that was so accommodating to his ongoing business. He thanks Evelyn, before quickly exchanging almost all of Varnak's gold for a more impressive suit of studded leather armor.
While she prepares that, Cor takes the sign and thinks of all the spells available. Perhaps he shall take a day to explore the area and then a day to place scrolls in scroll cases that can be stored at this table until purchased by others. He'll advertise the spells that he has access too, also. It will take some time before he otherwise build up a stock of scrolls, and it may be that some are more valuable than others.
Cor Lethynnil's Scrolls for Sale:
You can never have too many options.
Scrolls as available where noted in parenthesis ( X ), otherwise, ordered in advance:
Cor looks at his handywork in satisfaction. Evelyn looks at his sign in surprise, and he guesses her question.
"Yes, all cantrips and all ritual spells. I spent almost 80 years in prepartion to serve as a cleric for the elf god Corellon Larethian, and the use of my pen in aid of scroll writing was to be my life for seven hundred more years, till I was old and grey." He pauses for a moment, lost in thought, before shaking himself free of old memories. "Thank you, Evelyn, for the opportunity."
The morning takes him back to the Silverwood. It is time to have a crack at those Skeletons or else the other creatures that haunt the buried bones of his people. This time, he is a little more prepared.
He takes the time to send his familiar scouting ahead of him, and in his new studded leather armor he keeps himself ready, calling on Corellon for Guidance as he seeks to perceive his enemies before they perceive him.
MT uses a reaction to reduce the damage by half 24 (12). MT1 (-8/84)
As Helga Steelstorm falls, bleeding profusely. She speaks, dying in Liam's arms. "I'm glad it was you who takes me out. I don't even remember why things changed. I only remember what we had." Helga's eyes dart up, as she remembers a time when Liam was her man and the Ash Wolves were good and just. A smile creeps across her face as she dies, her body going limp in her ex-lover's arms.
Liam's tears stream as he shakes and grimaces, without sound.
They bring Yuno back to Evergreen Hollow, morally beaten, but they won the day.
This time, with a little luck on his side, Cor spots two skeletons long before they spot him. Once more he is on the periphery of the graveyard, but is enough. Before their eyes can spot him and he steps into range of his spell, he casts Blade Ward to protect himself a little more from their arrows, and moves to be beside a tree.
He sends his familiar a little ahead, ready to help with the fight in a distracting flurry of wings and feathers.
The first Skeleton lumbers forward to 90 feet, taking aim with its bow. The poor wear makes it clear that it will struggle to clear such a distance with a long-rotten arrow.
Skeleton Attack: 22, 13. The arrow corkscrews wide.
The Owl now swoops in dropping in front of the closest skeleton to help its master then escaping again. Cor aims his Eldritch Blast.
Cor Attack: 16, 20. Damage: 2force.
At this distance, it is difficult to do more than wing an old pauldron on the closest Skeleton. But the strategy is good, it seems. He will let either Skeleton approach to 30 feet before he seeks to fall back and preserve his range, he thinks, as the second Skeleton shambles forward to stand alongside its faster comrade and take its own shot. Which promptly misses in the opposite direction.
Skeleton 2: Attack: 13, 7.
Round 2: Each skeleton moves forward to 60 feet.
Skeleton 1 (HP: 11/13) : Attack: 21 Damage: 8.
Cor (HP 2/8). Quickly, he drinks the potion he bought earlier, surprised to be hit so soon. It brings him back to almost himself, his wounds closing before his eyes, but where the arrow struck remains tender (HP 9/10). He can't afford to waste this opportunity, or the helpful distractions of his Owl.
Cor: Attack: 16, 7 Damage: 2force
Again he barely clips it, cracking a small bone.
Skeleton 2 (HP 13/13): Attack: 10.
The Second Skeleton misses.
Round 3:
The Skeletons advance to 30 feet from Cor behind the tree. The first takes its shot.
Skeleton 1 (HP: 9/13): AR 19. DR: 7
Its bolt hits and Cor stumbles as an arrow tears through his shoulder yet again. Whatever they fought in life, these Skeletons must have been taught to aim for the shoulder to disable their foe, he thinks bitterly.
He takes the chance to move 30 feet backwards to new cover, to keep the distance.
He aims his strongest spell at the foe he has not yet attacked, while his familiar helps.
Cor drops Blade Ward and uses Witch Bolt.
Cor (HP 2/10): AR 6, 13. DR 15lightning.
The Second Skeleton chars and crackles, falling apart into a loose clump of humanoid bones.
Round 4:
Directed to stay by the skeleton attacked by the Witch Bolt, and now closer to the First Skeleton than Cor, the First Skeleton turns to shoot at Cor's Owl Familiar, but it misses.
First Skeleton (HP 9/13): AR 7
Now the familiar takes its chance to rush towards the flailing First Skeleton, and Cor takes aim.
Cor (HP 2/13): AR 7, 19. DR 10force.
His Eldritch Blast punches through the Skeleton's spine and it falls apart.
Cor puffs and pants, leaning against the tree as blood dribbles from his left shoulder. Finally. It almost cost him his life, but he has done it. Two of the undead, fallen by his might alone. Slowly he turns and limps his way back to Evergreen Hollow. He needs to trance, he needs to heal, to make Spell Scrolls. He'll claim his rewards tomorrow.

He sends his familiar a little ahead, ready to help with the fight in a distracting flurry of wings and feathers.
Initiatives: Cor - 9; Familiar - 18; Skeleton 1 - 22; Skeleton 2 - 8.
Round 1:
The first Skeleton lumbers forward to 90 feet, taking aim with its bow. The poor wear makes it clear that it will struggle to clear such a distance with a long-rotten arrow.
Skeleton Attack: 22, 13. The arrow corkscrews wide.
The Owl now swoops in dropping in front of the closest skeleton to help its master then escaping again. Cor aims his Eldritch Blast.
Cor Attack: 16, 20. Damage: 2 force.
Cor: Attack: 16, 7 Damage: 2 force
DR 15 lightning.
DR 10 force.
