“It’s a spell scroll of Witch Bolt, one that saved me in at least one encounter. I’d be happy to accept fifty gold pieces, or perhaps to bargain. If you have studded leather armor, I might trade this scroll with you. I think I have need of better armor — your local forest is a bit more dangerous than I am used to.”
Evelyn smiles at Cor, "Ah, a talented arcanist. This is a fine scroll and it's of a spell that I'm not familiar. I don't do this for many patrons but why don't you slide your scroll of witch bolt into one of these scroll cases here and grab that wooden sign over there. Yeah, the blank one with the jar of black paint. Here's a table for your products and an easel for your sign. You can have your own shop inside my shope. I'll even let you run the shop with no fees, until you make 1000 gp, then I'll take 10%."
Varnak burst through the shope doors like a clumsy oaf. "Evelyn, I'm here for my special orders." He turns to look at Cor setting up his sign. "Say, is that a wizard scroll you have for sale?" he opens the scroll case and says, "Witch Bolt. I've been looking for this piece of arcana. I'll pay you 50 gp for it." He swiftly pockets the scroll and leaves the 50 gp on your table.
Evelyn smiles again, "Well, if you make more, you always have a place here to sell your wares."
Location: Darkwood Forest Contrary to the name, the Darkwood is known for large, straight, trees with deep and dark colored wood and bark. It is an enchanted forest, home to all manner of fey creatures, beasts, and magical monsters. While goblins and orcs also live in the Darkwoods, they are tribal and territorial and they live in peace and balance with the elves of Evergreen Hollow. Being the largest forest in the kingdom, when exploring the Darkwoods, one can uncover quite a variety of places and creatures. Warden Thorne has placed a bounty on monstrosities in and around town. Bring back the pelt or the carcass for your reward.
New Location, the Darkwood Forest. It should be said that everyone has been there before. It's the forest all around Evergreen Hollow and it's the largest forest in the realm. Warden Thorne is a tired and old man who doesn't have a lot of work to do. The couples times a year that he must leave his warden station is when there are magical beasts who get to close to town. The forest is filled with Monstrosities and Warden Thorne has a bounty on their hides. "I like to make magical capes and robes from monster pelts. It's a hobby." He explains.
I've made two tables, each with five monsters, each with the same XP. These monsters are crazy difficult, so don't get too overconfident jumping into Challenge 3. I've also provided a Challenge 2 in Table 302 and I'm planning an Orc table soon.
I'm having a great time with the town and NPCs but also my Ranger Tasco and I can't wait to make a second character. I'm thinking of a wizard, but I know this campaign is brutal so maybe I'll make another caster mutt. Good luck and good rolls!
The water-filled tunnel curves sharply to the south. Yuno lights a torch and holds it in her hand as she travels the dark water-filled tunnel.
Perception: 17
As she walks she smells something oily in the air. She freezes in her tracks and looks to her right. She sees an indent in the wall. Peeking at it she sees that it has a scythe blade hidden there. It is a scythe trap of some kind. However, noticing that the trap, if triggered would cut across her belly, and the tunnel she is in has waist high water, Yuno takes a deep breath and begins swimming after putting the torch out. She swims close to the ground. Even if the trap is triggered it will miss her. While swimming along the tunnel now, she notices a button on the floor. "This must be what triggers the trap" Yuno thinks, before swimming past it.
Yuno soon finds herself in front of a stone door on a slightly elevated stone platform. Yuno squeezes her skirt to get the water out before approaching the door. It is locked. She tries lockpicking but she has a bad feeling about it.
Lockpick: 7
The lock is complicated. She can't seem to open it. Yuno looks back at the waterlogged tunnel and sighs, "You've gotta be kidding me." She turns back and swims to the central location. Now back to where she started, Yuno decide to go clock-wise. She goes down the south tunnel. She ends up at a Half-sunk wooden door. Being water-logged, it has swollen up and gotten stuck. Yuno rubs her hands together but because she is wearing gauntlets it makes a screeching metal sound which makes her cringe.
STR: 4
Yuno punches the door but it refuses to break. She is quickly running out of places to explore in this dumb dungeon. Returning to the hub area, Yuno looks at the west tunnel but then heads north instead. Just like the south tunnel, Yuno encounters another waterlogged, half-sunk door. "Round 2" Yuno announces as she cracks her knuckles.
STR: 19
This time Yuno is able to smash the door apart. Beyond is an L-shaped chamber. Small beams of light fall from cracks in the ceiling, which is a good 60ft above Yuno in this room. There is another wooden door, this one seems a lot thicker and made of better wood. It is also swollen shut. "Yep! Can't break through that!". To her east is another dark tunnel but this one is blocked by a rusty Iron Gate that is locked. The northern "head" of the L is on an elevated platform Yuno notices a dead adventurer skeleton. There is something carved on to the wall next to it.

Pulling it aside reveals a small hidden compartment. There she finds a key to the iron gate as well as 9 GP. "Finally! Progress!" Yuno says before using the key to open the iron gate on the east.

Roll d100 from Encounter Table 101 81 Will select, 1-10: 1x Skeleton (50 XP, bounty each skull, 10 gp)
Kane is a wanderer and a scholar. His time in prison was short, due to a minor dispute with a noble. It was a long enough incarceration to make Kane leave the towers and walls and to go out into the world to seek arcane knowledge from places of magic. Kane is kind and good, eager, and curious, if not a little haphazard yet lucky
Kane arrives in town, hurried and scatterbrained. "What a magical town." He thinks to himself. Kane grabs a bounty for a Skeleton and hikes 12 hours West to the Silverwood Forest. Just outside the gloomy place, he camps for the night, using survival for several minutes, survival 11, 18, 2, 6, 18. He figures out how to make a leanto and uses fire bolt to start a campfire, 9 fire damage, "Whoa, that might be too big." He laughs as he rests for the night.
In the morning he casts mage armor making his AC 12 become AC 15, then he immediately takes a short rest and uses arcane recovery to gain the spell slot back.
Entering the Silverwood is full of excitement, "I can feel the shadow magic. This place must be linked to the Shadowfell in some way." Kane thinks to himself.
Suddenly, a skeleton jumps out during a default approach 60 feet.

Kane collects his monster parts and returns to town to turn in the bounty. He asks around if there is a camping spot, where he can stay for free and Warden Thorne shows him to the "bonfire" people. Mystics, Vagabonds, Travelers, and Wayfarers who don't have the money for the inn, have made a camp site for all who are welcome to pitch a tent and sit by a bonfire.

The eastern tunnel curves south. Eventually Yuno finds a few small steps that go up to a single square room that is elevated just enough to not be flooded by the water. In this room she sees a Chest of Drawers one one side, pushed up against a wall. There are also some old pillows as well as a an old smoking pipe. Yuno looks up and sees light coming from a hole in the ceiling as well as some torn rope. She figures the dead adventurer must have tried rappelling down into this aqueduct but their rope snapped and they got stuck in this small two-room area. Checking the chest of drawers, Yuno finds some dresses and female clothes. She jokes, "Damn... in a water filled space but no swimsuits." There is nothing among the clothes that is of any interest to her so now Yuno has no choice but to return to the central hub.
Yuno stares down the west path. She then grumbles, "Alright alright. I guess 'left' it is!"
As she wades down the dark west tunnel, Yuno eventually finds herself in a junction. Another tunnel branches off from this main westward path and goes northwest. Yuno looks from the west path to the northwest and then to the west before deciding to head northwest.

Grasping her sides, Yuno is temporarily huddled over in severe pain as she fights against the poison. While she does manage to survive it, she is still in a lot of pain. Her whole body feels warm.
Yuno weathers the psionic attack and announces, "FINALLY. It's Killing Time!"Yuno lunges with her right bastard sword but the Quasit jumps high. Yuno's sword rams into the wall and sticks to it. The small fiend tries to jump on to Yuno's face and rip it apart but Yuno's left sword swings across the air and slams into the side of the creature and smacks it into the water. It lands with a splash.
As the water subsides, Yuno eyes the area around her. She tries to sense the creature's presence. She can't see it but she can smell it. She swings at the water blindly. Her swords slashing the water around and making Yuno wet. But the fiend keeps evading her.
There is a splash in the water and Yuno quickly turns around as the Quasit becomes visible again. She manages to swat it away but not before it slashes Yuno's throat. Kane is woken by the smell of patchouli and morning chanting.
Returning to The Grove he rolls Encounter Table 101 (Level 1 recommended) 98, But selects 91-95: 1x Dire Wolf (200 XP, bounty full carcass or pelt, 40 gp)
Kane treks to the Silverwood, casting mage armor when he gets there and then using arcane recovery to gain the spell slot back.
This time he hunts the illusive dire wolf, choosing a default approach of 50 ft (to be fair)
The Quasit is now desperate. It doesn't go invisible and instead attacks Yuno relentlessly. It jumps up and slashes across Yuno's face. Yuno's screams of pain echo through the halls of the aqueduct. As soon as she shakes off the tiny fiend, it leaps at her once again but this time, Yuno swings her sword with full might and causes the small creature to explode in a shower of purple blood and gore when her blade makes impact. Yuno pants, tired and nearly dead. The walls around her are now splattered with purple blood. The water around her is turning red from her own blood. Right now, her breathing is the only sound here. "Now... LET'S SEE WHAT LOOT HE HAD!" Yuno announces, quite enthusiastically and cheerfully despite nearly dying again. To fight is Yuno's calling in life. She wouldn't have been in the life she is now if she was afraid of dying. The risk of death is just part of the fun for her.
Checking the nook, it seems the Quasit made a nest out of a torn sack, some utensils, broken whetstones, wood scrap and... "TREASURE!" Yuno announces as she sees 10 Platinum, 3 Copper and 1 Silver. It's not the best haul but it is what it is.

Kane gets to scraping a pelt, with multiple attempts, survival 4, 18, 7, 10, 9, he eventually pulls off an impressive area of fur and several pounds of meat. He places the pelt in one sack and the meat in another sack. He has as much dire wolf meat as he can carry.
On his trip back, he stops to gift the dire wolf meat to the "bonfire" people and they begin roasting it over the bonfire. There is a huge feast and several hungry bellies are filled. He collects his bounty for the pelt and spends the last hours of the day scribing a scroll of magic missile (25 gp)
Yuno heads back to the small platform with the pillow and the clothes to rest up and heal.

After healing from her wounds, Yuno stands up and continues exploring this dungeon. She heads back to the bend with the Quasit Nest and continues eastward. Yuno's progress however is halted by an iron door that is thoroughly stuck. There is no way she is breaking through this. She turns back and goes down the west path instead. She has better luck down this path as she finds a locked wooden door. This one is on a slightly elevated platform and so is not touching the water and thus, not swollen shut. It does however, have an old padlock on it. Yuno leans down and tries to unlock it.

Yuno glares at the lock, having failed to open it. She then jumps back and gives the door a flying kick but she just falls flat on her butt. "GODDAMN IT!" She hadn't tried to break it down.
STR: 3
However, even that attempt fails. Now having REALLY expended every avenue she heads back to the village to rest up for a day (6 SP) and cheer herself up with some sweets. She wonders while making her way back, " I wonder if they have ice cream."
