“Well, gentlemen, I’ll get down to business. As you may have noticed, this defenceless yet fairly well financed hamlet seems to have a problem with unruly Redbrands. Why, only today I heard of a woodcarver murdered in his own shop while defending his beautiful wife from the unwanted advances of the ruffians. His wife, daughter and son have all mysteriously disappeared. The mayor seems disinclined to help but I’m sure he’d be grateful to anyone willing to do the dirty work. I’ve been pointed toward a retired half-elf adventurer that could have information on these villainous creatures“
Valeria sits back and downs her tankard in one long swallow.
Brand brightens up when the others join him at the table. Sipping some wine he listens to Val's story. At the mention of murder and missing children, Brand's eyes narrow and burn hot. Brand keeps his emotions and feelings unreadable but his eyes continue to blaze.
”I can recognise a band of brave adventurers eager to help a town in need when I see them”
lowering her voice, she learns in closer…
“I’m sure you’d also like to refill the coffers you’ve just emptied no doubt too. One doesn’t deposit a Bugbear hide without incurring a little attention”
"A High Elf of all things.....I find it strange you haven't reacted to the Drow, Lucius"
Brand glances at Lucius and back at Val.
"I am already duty bound by the Sun God, blessed and Holy, to help another. The Sun burns hot in me when the innocent are harmed, however, as I seem to keep dragging the others into trouble. I leave the decision up to Ol and Lucius"
Brand calls out to the bartender to bring over another glass for Val and another bottle of red. When it comes, Brand pours Val a glass and offers it to her. He then looks at Ollanius and Lucius.
Brand looks back at Val and Lucius is too busy stuffing his face to answer.
"We have lost a member of our party. He up and vanished after we finished getting the reward for the bugbear job. Are you going to help us find whats left of the family and with our trip to the Goblin King? Are you experienced in combat? You look like a wizard or sorcerer and I can sense magic in you."
“I’m sorry to hear of your loss, however I would be honoured to join you. I have my own business with the Goblins at Cragmaw Castle but they’ll keep for the moment, I’m sure.
I am indeed a wizard and can certainly hold my own in battle”
"Well it will be good having a wizard with us. We lost our stealthy scount but gained magic. You're awfully quiet Ol. Are you 2 going to get something to eat?"
Brand looks st Ollanius and Val who are just drinking.
Ol snorts himself awake and instantly shouts “more ale” to the barman.
”yep not sure what happened to Thequin. Might have been something to do with me taking the hide of that bugbear. I hear he might be one of those non meat eaters - apparently it’s all the rage in the cities”
”so I take it we are agreed. First thing in the morning we look to solve the redbrand issue. And speaking of the morning we have a spare room for the night given that Thequin no longer requires it. Sildar - what say you?”
Lucius is lost in thought and all of the previous conversation unfolds around him.
Just as Ollanius woke up, Sildar had walked in. The group fill him in on what Valeria had told them.
"I have been questioning several locals about my friend Iarno Albrek who disappeared while exploring the area around Tresendar Manor about two months ago, shortly after arriving in Phandalin. If you could investigate the manor and the surrounding area to find and bring back Iarno—or what’s left of him if something killed him - I would be eternally in your debt and will pay you myself. He is a short, dark-bearded human wizard in his thirties.”
"From tomorrow, I will have to return to my duties at the townmaster's hall as a member of The Lord's Alliance. There are several plans I am involved in to bring law and order to Phandalin. This is why I have been working with Gundren to find the lost mine of Wave Echo Cave and help him and his brothers put it back into production. I believe this will bring prosperity to the region will help civilize the town.
To that end, I and the townmaster would request you keep up the pressure on the Cragmaw goblins. He has agreed to a 500 gold reward if you can locate Cragmaw Castle and defeat or drive off the tribe’s chieftain. In addition to what you have been told already, if you need further directions to help find the castle you could search the lands around the Triboar Trail for more raiding parties.
Parched after all the talking, he finishes the last of his drinks and flags down the server for another ale

Brand thinks as he sips his wine. Brand looks around the room at the patrons, taking in the mood of the townspeople and then back at the faces of his companions Ol and Lucius, the newly joined Val and finally Sildar. Brand looks finishes his drink, pours himself another glass, places it on the table to let it breathe and looks at the palms of his hands. He rubs the pads of his fingers with his thumbs and contemplates.
Brand then comes to a decision and addressed the group.
Goblins owning a castle and running around like they own the place and kidnapping people. A woodcarver murdered in his own shop in the middle of town by ruffians, his wife and children missing. A wizard missing while exploring the Tresendar Manor. The only lifeline of the town appears to be finding the lost mines. A lot of wrongs in and around Phandalin. Little hope around these parts.
Brand's eyes continue to blaze hot like an inferno. As if letting off some steam, he sighs.
Now it appears that it is up to our little group to fix all these problems.
Brand finishes his glass and looks at Ol, Val and Lucius.
Our actions from now will light the darkness of these people. I am one of the Sun God's followers, my soul is joined to his will. For every unjust action shall be avenged. Suffer not the evildoer to live. Burn the heretic, Kill the monster, purge the unclean, slaughter the criminals. Faith is my shield and only in death does my duty end.
Brand stands.
I bid you all Good Night, for I must pray to my God, Horus-Re, almighty be his name, about our adventure. I will see you all in the morning ready to start our adventure.
Brand leaves some coins on the table to cover his food and wine and then heads off to the baths. Once he has had a bath, Brand retires to his room. Brand prays and having received a vision from the Sun God, takes out his tinker's tools, 3 oil flasks, rope, a bag of ball bearings and spends the next 3 hours attempting to build 3 bombs.
1st Bomb -
Int check to try to figure out how to build the bomb - 10
Dex check to attempt to build bomb - 18
2nd Bomb -
Int check to try to figure out how to build the bomb - 12
Dex check to attempt to build bomb - 7
3rd Bomb -
Int check to try to figure out how to build the bomb - 11
Dex check to attempt to build bomb - 18
Once he has completed his attempts he goes to sleep for a Long rest.
“Ok folks. Sorry about last night. It’s been a long while since I rested properly.
Ive been thinking. Before we venture further we need to make this town safe, friends and beloveds being murdered sits poorly with me. And it would make sense to help these people and have somewhere safe to return to:
I vote we find out what happened to Sildar’s friend and then address the Redbrand issue. And to be fair a visit to a manor sounds positively glorious after those ruddy caves”
Ol orders a fry up and nods to his kit bag.
”Ready to role folks? Anyone know anything about that manor?”
Brand completed his morning prayers and worship to the Sun God in his room and then joins his companions for breakfast. Brand feeling well rested after a night of good food, companionship of friends and a comfortable bed, enters the dining hall humming a hymn of praise.
Brand orders a humble breakfast of a teapot of tea with milk, and a couple of sausage and cheese baps. He joins Ollanius and after listening to him, Brand pats him on the shoulder amusingly.
"Haha Ol, you seemed like age had caught up with you last night. I thought when you struck up a conversation with Val, you were interested but it seems a long day and a couple of drinks is enough to defeat you. I agree, a manor may have some tithes for us to collect."
Brand pulls out a bomb from his pack.
"I had some inspiration after my prayers before bed and managed to make one of these. It's causes a flash of the Sun Gods fury. I think its called a bomb. I failed to make the other 2. I'll need to grab more rope on the way to the Manor."
Brand Blesses his food and begins to eat and sip his tea.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After a good nights rest, Lucius snaps out of his meditative trance and heads downstairs after dreaming of the delightful meal he found himself engorged with the night prior. He then joins the others just catching the end of Brand describing his new "Bomb".
"What in the hells is that... How bright is that thing gonna be?. You better keep that far away from me in the heat of battle."W
"We should check this manor, I find it too convenient that all these problems facing the town occurring together is by bad luck. Aaaaand Im sure we'd make some gold doing it."
Lucius tries to recall any history he may recall of the region and any factions or bands of note.

“Oh dear, it appears Ol has fallen asleep…..is this normal human behaviour?”
Valeria removes the tankard from Ol’s heavy hand and takes care of the contents

The others pass some time with another few ales and then quietly head up to bed.
*The next day*
All now well rested, the group meet up in the dining hall for breakfast and to discuss which of the leads they want to pursue first.
“Ok folks. Sorry about last night. It’s been a long while since I rested properly.

Ol listens to Brand’s tale of DIY bomb making and wonders how the Inn survived the night.
He subtly moves to ensure that his seat at the table is nearest the exit.
“I wonder what the other two are up to”

Val heads downstairs but decides to forgo breakfast, polishing everyone’s drinks off may not have been her best idea.
“Did I hear word that the Manor House is to be our next point of investigation? A spectacular idea, let’s see what horrors that facade hides”
Emily speller
Unfortunately ale has clouded Lucius' memory and he does not recall anything
