Delimbiyra reacts quickly, his sharp reflexes taking over as the illusion fades and the half-elf comes into view. He steps back lightly, giving space for his melee-focused allies to move in, while simultaneously shifting to break line of sight by blending into the mist and trees. Whether or not the half elf's eyes continue to track him, he releases a bolt from his crossbow, the shot aimed squarely at the figure. “Engage carefully!” he calls to the others, his tone calm but firm. “He’s clearly skilled in the arcane arts!
Move: Move away (up to 35 feet) and tries to break line of sight. Bonus: Stealth 13 (may hide even if only lightly obscured) Action: Attack, if hidden with advantage but first attack roll was higher. Hit 16 for 7 damage and 1 sneak attack damage if it applies.
(what i am going to do is sorta going against what another player did so if u wanna cancel this action i get it just lmk)
Doli, seeing the crossbow shot flying through the air right towards the half-elven enemy right next to him, will step forward and attempt to catch the arrow (reduced the damage to 0).
I understand the hostilities but must we really resort to violence fist? I am sure we can talk this out, no need for anyone to get hurt. Isn't that right my half elven friend? My name is Doli.
Doli says, facing back at the previously hidden man. Doli seems confident that this will work, and has let his guard down so that the man see's that, at the very least, Doli is no threat to him.
Delimbiyra’s jaw drops as Doli, with seemingly impossible reflexes, steps in and snatches the bolt mid-flight. For a moment, he’s utterly dumbfounded, staring at the monk as though he’s just witnessed something from a bard’s exaggerated tale. “What in the nine hells…?” he mutters under his breath, his grip on the crossbow slackening slightly. So stunned by the feat, he completely forgets to reload, his sharp mind momentarily derailed. Instead, he simply stands there, blinking, unsure whether to feel annoyed or impressed. “Did… did he just catch that?” he whispers to himself, still processing the scene unfolding before him.
So ordinarily, I would say that you can't deflect an attack that was not at you (as per the rule of the feature), however I will allow it in this instance as it makes for very nice narrative..
The half elf looks as shocked as the rest of you at the catching of the bolt, before stammering to get words out.
"Ahh, no! Of course not! Just umm.... look at me. Do I really look like I could attack a caravan? I was hiding as I thought YOU were the ones who were behind this. And then you know, you started to approach me with weapons drawn so I panicked for my life." They stand up a bit straighter and try to puff their chest out a bit (though looks a bit more stupid than they planned) "So I think you should choose your next words carefully before accusing an innocent stranger"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Glad we could all come to an understanding, and I do apologize, these have been tense times and we have been force to be on guard, I hope we didn't give you to much of a scare!" Doli does a hearty chuckle, however is no fool and will try to inspect this mysterious fellow.
Insight: 18
"If you don't mind me asking, what brings you to these woods?"
Gym listens, innocent stranger indeed! Tell me, what business have you here? Of what concern was the caravan to you? And wiser words should follow "friend". almost spitting the word friend...
Doli, with the insight check from before (it doesn't last forever but with it being a crit and with the same post as your question, it will extend to this), you get the feeling he was avoiding that second question. But he is unable to avoid it more once Gym joins in. "It sounds like you are still accusing me when you came to attack me. I was travelling with that caravan and thanks to my magic was able to hide when it was attacked, the same way I tried to hide when you tried to attack me."
"Well that's perfect!" If you were with the caravan you must recognize the frozen fellow that our friend Gym has been graciously carrying with us. Have you any idea who this man is and, more importantly what happened to him. I do apologize for all the questioning, but we are adventurers and..." Doli say's this last port with the same kind smile, but with more glaring eyes and a slightly more rigid tone "...we wont be caught off guard again. So please, we would appreciate any help you could offer us so that we could better save your caravan friends" He finishes off the sentence back in his kind lighthearted way. "Say, maybe you could even come with us. It will be dangerous a bit dangerous, but you seem like quite the capable fellow, and there is some strange magic which is making leaving this forest quite problematic. If you watch our back I promise we will watch yours. As long as you dont give our friend Delimbiyra any more trouble that is. He is QUITE the good shot and I dont know if I could catch another one of his arrows!" He ends with a chuckle.
"Of course I know Jerry. He was the best man at my wedding. You carrying him around like a sack of potatoes didn't help me think you are trustworthy when I was hiding. I was hoping you would tell me what happened to him. I could go with you but I currently have as much reason to trust you, as you have to trust me, and I don't like putting my life in the hands of people I don't trust." He is clearly on edge, and looking ready to defend himself but he isn't making any moves to be aggressive.
Delimbiyra’s grip tightens on his crossbow as Doli’s words and the half-elf’s story settle into his mind. Slowly, the realization begins to seep in—he had nearly loosed a bolt into someone claiming to be part of the very caravan they were trying to save. His breath catches in his throat, and a flicker of guilt washes over his face. “I…”he starts, his voice unsteady before he forces himself to speak clearly. “I owe you an apology.” He lowers the crossbow fully, slinging it over his back with deliberate care. “The stress of the situation clouded my judgment. I saw a potential threat instead of someone in need. That’s not who I am… or who I want to be.”
He steps back a pace, placing a hand lightly over his chest and taking a slow, deep breath. His hazel eyes close briefly as he runs through the calming techniques drilled into him during training—focus on the breath, steady the heart, center the mind. Each inhale and exhale softens the tension in his posture, allowing him to regain a measure of composure.
“I acted out of fear, and for that, I am truly sorry,” he says, opening his eyes and meeting the half-elf’s gaze with sincerity. “If you were part of the caravan, then we’re on the same side. We came here to help, and I would like to prove to you that we mean no harm—only to get to the bottom of this and ensure no one else gets hurt.” His tone is calm now, and his expression more measured. He glances at Doli, then Gym, silently hoping the others will reinforce the sentiment as they try to de-escalate the tension with who he conceives now as an uneasy ally.
Doli gives a glance back to Delimbiyra, obviously quite happy he apologized. He looks back at the stranger "Great, we are all coming to an understanding! I am excited to have you as part of our group, which I imagine you will be joining for now, since it is as you said, you have as much reason to trust us as we do you, and it all works out perfectly, because I truly trust you. I mean, you were reasonable enough to not attack us despite us trying to attack you, despite being such a capable man. Let us keep moving, ummmm. Im so sorry I must have forgotten, what was your name again friend" And during this conversation Doli is attempting to go in closer and give him a nice bear hug. He truly isn't trying to intimidate or do anything else, but if he backs away from it or something, Doli wont pursue.
Gym looks to his friends, shrugs his shoulders a bit, well, alright then. Perhaps we should get a fire going and compare notes over a drink. I'll get some wood for the fire, looks to the newcomer, you can see after your friend Jerry here. Deli, perhaps now would be a good time ask about your friend that traveling with the group. Gym starts out to get some wood, stay close by and within ear shot.
They back up from the hug, not wanting you to get too close. "I do not trust you. You are carrying a spellbound Jerry around with you. How do I know you aren't just trying to get me to let my guard down to do the same to me? Well it won't happen. I will not le... AHHHHHHHH" The man starts screaming and holding his ears, before looking at you all just standing there. "What are you doing to me? Why isn't that noise affecting you?" He screams while you all hear nothing apart from his screaming. Which stops as he then collapses to the floor, still breathing, but eyes closed.

Gym unsure what to make of this whole scene, You, pointing to the elf, is this you're doing? Did you attack the caravan and bewitch this man?
"Nice catch, Doli" To the elf, "choose your next words carefully."

Looking at his eyes, this guy is definitely lying.

Doli just turns to the rest of the party, swirling his finger to the side of his head, clearly insinuating that this guy is crazy.
