As far as you can tell there is nothing of value down here. Once you are ready to begin you climb back up please make one Dexterity (Acrobatics) check DC 13 to make your way up the slime covered portion of the well wall.
excellent, you make your way back up...the room and well have been thoroughly searched, you've still got the other door in the main hallway to explore...what does your party do?
Your party moves into the hallway, a quick check of the door reveals no traps and it's unlocked. (( if it's ok I'll take some liberty here to help move things along some, please let me know if I misspeak and you'd like to take a different action))
You each prepare as one of you reaches for the handle and pushes the door open. The door opens onto what might have been a labor workroom. To your left sits a mouldering desk and the shattered remnants of alchemical glassware, while the center of the room is dominated by a set of tall bookcases arranged back to back.
all around, however, are scrooch marks and signs of countless small fires, the air is filled with the smell of smoke and what you believe to be...smoked meat.
The wooden furniture is blackened and burned in places, while what may have been a pile of books has been reduced to ash. Signed traces of what may be webbing? hang from the ceiling.
As you enter you feel something crunch beneath your feet - glancing down you realize that it's the charred hindquarters of a giant rat.
The back sections and wall of the room are dark and shadowed....
Marion peers into the dark corners and ceiling, allowing her darkvision to adjust. *Perception 22* "Ooh Books! I love books!" Marion says, "Too bad most of them were lost in the fire."
Sylvantras wrinkles his nose, at the burned smell in the room and looks around. "We obviously have something more at play here than rats and bugs, but what?"
Marion - while searching through the burnt books you do find one that is mostly salvageable. You open it to find the handful of still good pages full of some arcane writing and formulas.
Mathias and Sylvantras - as the two of you have a look around you both notice a door on the western wall.
Just as you both decide to call out to Marion about the door, you all hear a *pop hiss* and smell paper burning. Marion as you close the book trying to decide what to do with it, a stream of firey silk flys pass you and hits the pages on the floor setting them aflame, you look up to see this on top of the book shelf - everyone please roll initiative
The spider leaps to the ground facing Mathias with Marion and Sylvantras at it's back, the party has initiative...be advised, the spiders skin literally pops and crackles with what looks like flame, a quick deduction would indicate that melee attacks against this large creature would result in the attacker taking some fire damage as well.
Sylvantras curses under his breath, feeling the heat off of the fiery arachnid before stepping back, dropping his scimitars, pulling his bow, placing his primal mark on the creature before letting loose an arrow.

Mathias acrobatics 8
Seeing the bard slip, Sylvantras grabs the rope. "When you are ready to try again, I'll pull on the rope to help get you out of there."
Marion looks over her shoulder, still keeping an eye on the door "You two all right over there?"

"Yeah, we're fine. Sides of the well are a little gross and Mathias is having a few troubles climbing out. Shouldn't be much longer."
Acrobatics with help 24 “Thank you Sylvantras!”
excellent, you make your way back up...the room and well have been thoroughly searched, you've still got the other door in the main hallway to explore...what does your party do?
"Onward to the next room, eh?" Sylvantras rhetorically asks as he leaves the well room and goes to open the other door.
Your party moves into the hallway, a quick check of the door reveals no traps and it's unlocked. (( if it's ok I'll take some liberty here to help move things along some, please let me know if I misspeak and you'd like to take a different action))

Head to the shadowy area torch held high. “Perhaps there are some valuable books to recover here.”
Marion peers into the dark corners and ceiling, allowing her darkvision to adjust.

*Sylvantras Initiative 13*
*Marion Initiative 10*
Marion freezes for a fraction of a second, astonished at this strange creature that appears to be a mix of spider and fire elemental.

Mathias steps away from the spider. He casts true strike, and launches his now glowing boomerang.

”Beware the arachnid of flame.”
Sylvantras curses under his breath, feeling the heat off of the fiery arachnid before stepping back, dropping his scimitars, pulling his bow, placing his primal mark on the creature before letting loose an arrow.
