Tarysaa mutters arcane phrases as her hand weaves in and out of a nearby bit of shadow Shadow Blade < (Bonus Action) One may see threads of shadow weaving and twisting to create a sword of solidified gloom in her outstetched hand. She smiles as she flicks her wrist and brings her dark longsword to bear against the beast; preparing to strike 'in unison' with the others.

Driving down into it's skull with as much force as she can muster, Tarysaa slides the blade cleanly into the head of the beast. Biting deep, she then gives a slight twist of the blade; pulling back and preparing in case another blow is necessary.
[[ OOC: So far, considering that Ardana missed with her 12 to hit, but the others fortunately hit instead, we're at a total of 29 Damage inflicted this round... It looks like Woodrow's roll will be decisive! ]]
The hail of blows falls on the monster, which has a final gasp and then lies, motionless... forever. Blood streams from the numerous wounds that have been opened on its vast body, watering ruins that, since they were abandoned, must not be new to drinking fluids of this kind.
Our heroes have emerged victorious from this confrontation and can decide their next moves...
As the party swiftly and mercilessly descends upon the sleeping creature, their weapons strike true. Ardana’s greatsword carves deep into its flesh, Tarysaa’s shadow blade cleaved at its head, and Koran delivers a precise, punishing strike. Yet, it is Woodrow’s blade that lands the final blow—a swift, calculated thrust that drives deep into the beast’s head, ending its life before it has a chance to awaken.
The worm shudders violently, its many tentacles twitching in their death throes before falling still. A moment of silence follows, the only sound the heavy breathing of the adventurers as they stand over the lifeless creature.
Elias lets out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. "Well... that was decisive." He gives Woodrow an approving nod. "A clean kill. No more ambushes from this one."
He glances at the gaping hole where the creature had lurked. "Now the question is… was it alone?"
((14 investigation roll. He's examining the creature for anything that might seem interesting, maybe reagents or spell components, as well as examining the hole the creature came from.))
Tarysaa sighs as her black blade dissipates in a shaft of sunlight filtering through the woodland trees; light stretching out to light up the ground she stands upon. The trees bathed from behind; making semi illuminted, upright giants of bark and leaf; she strained to hear a far off sparrow as a buzzing insect filled the silence. Looking down, she watches as the blood and ichor slowly spreads and seeps into the woodland floor. "We did what we must," she speaks softly while looking upon the inert form.
A moment of silence stretches out before she gives an involuntary shake of her body. Looking about, she spies others moving toward the uncovered burrow and the ruins nearby.
"Koran, are you well enough to continue? It had appeared you took a savage bite from one of those tentacles."
The party, in order to finish off the monster, which had not had the chance to move too far from the hole it was hiding in, had to get close enough to the hole to notice that it was barely big enough to hide the worm. Apparently, it had dug it itself, making just enough effort to hide itself sufficiently. There are no other creatures inside - the hole is empty now.
Once our heroes feel ready to continue exploring, the currently known routes remain the nearby spiral staircase and the hole in the center of the ruins surrounded by the forest of giant spiderwebs. Or you can continue walking the perimeter of the ruins in search of further entry points.
Elias peers into the now-empty hole, ensuring there are no more lurking threats. Satisfied that the danger has passed, he dusts off his hands and looks to the others.
"Let’s not waste any more time here. That was only one threat—who’s to say there aren’t more hiding in plain sight?" He adjusts his pack and gestures toward the ruins. "We should keep searching for other entrances before deciding on our approach. There may be a safer way in."
He takes the lead in scanning the area, eyes sharp for any signs of hidden doorways, collapsed tunnels, or any structural weaknesses that could provide another means of entry.
((Dirty 20 Investigation, 22 Perception...holy smokes at those rolls!))
Wood will follow the bard's lead, trying to recall anything he can about the local lore of the ruins and an entrance, history roll 7. As the party moves he keeps and eye out, perception roll 6.
Elias doesn't have to go far before he comes into view of a new potential entrance: another spiral staircase, but this time, at least from what he can tell from a distance, it doesn't start from the upper levels, but from the ground floor. This staircase also descends, probably leading to the lower levels.
But another thing catches the attention of the attentive bard: as he passes by a stump of wall, there is an ancient, moss-covered, monstrous sculpture that... that perhaps isn't a real sculpture, after all! Although it actually looks like rock and the creature is completely still, Elias could swear he saw a malevolent look glint in its eyes, for a moment... and also that said eyes moved slightly to better focus on the party.
The creature, however, is now perfectly still again - probably unaware that someone was vigilant enough to discover its true nature.
[[ OOC: The creature is in the position marked by Token 1. The new spiral staircase is in pink. ]]
Elias slows his steps, his breath steady as his keen eyes remain locked onto the creature masquerading as a statue. His hand subtly gestures for the others to halt.
"We have another way down," he says evenly, nodding toward the spiral staircase, "but we may also have another problem."
Without breaking eye contact with the statue, he speaks just loud enough for his companions to hear.
"That sculpture… I don’t think it’s just a sculpture. It moved—only slightly, but enough. It’s watching us."
((Nature check 4...luck has run out))
He tilts his head and smirks slightly, testing the creature’s reaction. "Anyone here well-versed in creatures that play dead?"
Ardana walks carefully, picking her path, and trying to keep an eye forward and back to keep guard, but she sees no sign of any danger (perception 2). When Elias looks at the sculpture and calls attention to it, Ardana conspicuously turns her head to look for and at the sculpture. Making it readily apparent that the 'statue' has been spotted for what it is.
Finally, considering that both Elias and Ardana are openly demonstrating that they have understood that the 'statue' is a creature, said creature stands up... and raises an arm, looking for a moment in the direction of the northeast... and then begins to stare openly at the party.
In response to the gesture, a similar creature, but whose stone-like skin is camouflaged with lichen instead of moss, like that of the first, comes flying - in fact, like good gothic decorations that they are, these two 'statues' are equipped not only with legs and arms, but also with horns, a tail... and wings.
After a short flight, the creatures land and place themselves one on one side of the party and the other on the opposite side and, grinning like those anticipating some tasteless fun, they say: "You smart, huh? You not fooled..." "But you allowed here? Or you... in trouble!?" "Give proof! Transform!"
Elias narrows his eyes at the gargoyle-like creatures, his mind racing. Their demand is cryptic, but the word "transform" stands out. Were they expecting the party to shapeshift? Prove their identity? Or was this some kind of test?
He decides to play along—for now.
"Transform, you say?" Elias says, his voice carrying a mix of curiosity and confidence. "That’s quite the demand. Perhaps if you clarify what you expect us to become, we might be able to oblige."
At the same time, he discreetly prepares to counter any hostility with magic. If this was a riddle, he would find the answer. If it was a trap, well...he'd rather not be the fool who walked into it unprepared.
((22 persuasion. Elias is attempting to manipulate the creatures into providing some context.))
Ardana sees an opportunity to impress the creatures, and casts Thaumaturgy to make her eyes flaming and devilish; as intimidating as she can make them, looking from one creature to the other, and brandishing her sword.
Koran frowns slightly as he sees these creatures, turning to face the one opposite the speaker. He stands relaxed, with his right foot slightly back, his arms loosely as his sides.
