I would feel eccentric as i played my tune 16 I noticed the vast differences between everyone thst would come in but would spend most of my time focused on playing.
Your Lute seems to be well tuned and you really seem to have a knack for it and feeling the crowd. You have the attention of some of the patrons and even the lizard man’s foot seems to be taping along. After a moment or two the barmaid brings you a mead paid for by someone in the crowd.
About a half hour into your set, you see a large, burly Northman with large scarred up hands enter. He has scars on his faces as well. He is wearing fairly nice, dark colored clothing and a beaver skin tricorn hat. He has two other rough looking northmen on either side of him. He talks to the bartender a moment before heading to the table where the Lizard man is sitting.
He gives you what appears to be a smile, but not a particularly warm one as he drops 2 gp onto your tip rag.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I would be a bit afraid as the scarred man aproached, I would give a small sigh realizing they werent trying to hurt me, Inwould continue strumming my intrument as I looked down at the 2 golld coins in my ragged sack in front of me, WOW! What a tip!! "Thank you so much sir!" I would say my voice squeaked. "This song goes out to all of you"
You see the people cringe a little as one of the strings of your lute comes off the spindle. Conversations in the bar get a bit louder and as you restring your lute you start tompick up a little of what the lizard man is discussing with the man. (Roll perception to see how much you pick up)
i would be frantically trying to fix the lute and apologize to everyone while doing it, I hoped i was fast enough to not get things thrown at. After just a few seconds I would go back to playing my small tune to apease the people.
You over hear the man’s name is Fist Scarsguard, but mostly he just goes by Mr. Fist. Apparently he is the Second in command of the Third Ship (the ones running the city) Suljack.
you hear the lizard man ask about a certain ship due for arrival overnight from a place you never heard of before, Calimshan, Calimsport?
You see Mr Fist’s face turn a bit serious and then he says the name “ Gallows Dancer”
The Lizard man thanks him for his information and hand him a small coin pouch before he slips out of the tavern.

The crowd quickly settles in as you resume your playing, you get a few claps in appreciation as you get into the groove again. More tips find their way onto your blanket
During your playing another man entered the tavern and found his way to Mr Fists table. It is the interesting gnome fellow you say 8n the market. At first you dont see his bird, but then you notice the large vulture sitting on the 2nd floor railing watching his master…and seems like it is a little interested in you as well.
you play for a few more hours, seeing many interactions with Mr Fist. The gnome remained long after Mr Fist left to attend other business. The Gomes vulture still watched you as you packed up your tips, a pretty good haul for your first paid performance. The gnome comes up to you and introduces himself. “ Hello there young fellow, that was a very inspiring performance you gave tonight. My companion Goermond really enjoyed it, he says we need to hire you to accompany us.”
it takes a moment before you realize the companion he was referring to is the Vulture.
” My name is Thagal and I am here for some special research. if you are interested in steady pay, i can meet you here again tomorrow evening. You have a great talent and a budding power in you and we would enjoy your company on our journey.”
Kel's eyes shoot up, a job already!?! On his first night, he would nod frantically.
"Thank you so much sir! I accept!" The kobold would look at the companion he was waved over seeing the large vulture- realizing he may or may not be smalller then the bird.
I also wondered if this gnome was part of Mr.Fists crew. "Ill see you tommrow alright"
He says, “ very good, very good. Take this for your performance tonight and I will see you tomorrow “. Thagal places a nicely cut ruby on the table for you as he leaves with his vulture.
The barmaid offers you a small room to stay the night for free. It is one normally reserved for a worker that is off to visit family.
and Thus we end the evening, the Lizard man got his information, the gnome got his plus a new employee and Kel, the little kobold bard had an outstandingly successful first show and a job.
The night was clear and brightly lit by both moon and stars. 3/4’s full, a good night to recon the ships in the harbor as their crews celebrated there safe arrival or slept soundly for the first time on months on a soft tavern bed. Zerk slipped from shadow to shadow, wall to wall until he reached the docks. He waited patiently concealed as some of the town guards patrolled lazily by him. They worked for the 5th ship, lowest on the totem of power in Luskan, but still a power nonetheless. They had no qualms in demonstrating that power on any citizen for any reason real or made up. Zerk was low on cash so he would not be bale to bribe anyone tonight. Once they passed by, he slipped underneath the dock, using his lizard agility to travel the docks underside, hanging on the planks of the walkway until he got to the end of the first pier. Where he sat in the shadows on a cross beam where he could count ships and take notes. Mr. Fist said the name of the Ship was “ Gallows Dancer” a fairly ominous name for a ship as it was a derogatory term for Pirate. The practice of hanging pirates was common in most civilized cities. Luskan being not among them. Having not quite achieved that level of “ civilization.” Piracy was the purview and main job of those belonging to the third ship. People like Mr. Fist. He didn’t sound very enthusiastic about this ship and was very leery about the prospect of confiscation of its cargo by discreet means. Zerk was here to see for himself and get a peek at the cargo. “ Fortune favors the bold…” he had heard it said many times.
After a short time waiting, watching and recording notes, Zerk hears the harbor bell ringing to indicate an arrival and light from the lighthouse is directed towards the bay to aid the ship in mooring. The ship is a medium sized galleon with 3 masts. Its wood planking seems to be blacked out, maybe extra tar was used to seal it, or painted. More ominous is what appears to be several body’s hanging from the bow sprit by their necks. The undulating of the waves making them seem to be dancing in the moonlight. The Gallows Dancer has arrived.
The crew of the ship made short work of hitching to a mooring ball and quickly lowered a dinghy over the side where its Captain and some crew would row to the docks and register with the harbor master. It was time for Zerk to go. He would find out in the morning from his contacts what type of cargo was declared
The morning is cold. A stiff breeze coming from the north is biting at Thagal’s skin through his cloak. The morning sun has been swallowed by a dense fog, seemingly spewed from t( nine hells to impede his travels. He made his way over the bridge to cutlass island and to the hist tower of the Arcane. Home and school for the arcane brotherhood. Mr Fist was very accommodating in giving him a letter to allow entry to the tower and a contact within to aid him. He requires access to the library and to a certain tome contained within.
As Thagal makes it to the entrance of the tower, he sees that there is a small line formed in front of the doors, underneath a great symbol of an eye. Thagal can sense it is a magical device of some sort. There are two guards here letting people in one at a time. They inform each that no magic items are allowed past the doors without explicit permission from one of the senior brothers and if they had any such items they could be checked with the guards until their exit. As each affirmed they did not have any thing they were allowed to enter. One gentleman thought he could get by and violated the prohibition. As he moved to enter the doorway, the eye lit up and bright ray of light descended upon the poor fool. All that was left was a pile of ash and a glimmering ring of some magical type. One of the guards brought up a broom and pan brushing his dust and item outside the doorway before scooping up the ring and dumping the ash into a bin. He tells the other guard, “ there has always got to be one…” and he laughs as the line moves forward. Several other visitors check some miscellaneous items with the guards when it comes to Thagals turn. “ Does the prohibition include magic minions?” Thagal asks the guard a she points to the vulture. “ Aye, indeed it do” he responds, at which Thagal gives Goermond directions to fly around a bit. He then enters the doubles door into the grand entryway of the tower.
The morning light streams into the little port hole window in your little room. You feel great. Well rested and the excitement of your first success, your first earnings on the path of the bard has you ready and excited to see what the day brings. Looking out the window you can see the weather is a thick fog and a bit cool.
I would head to wherever the bathroom was in the building and would wash my face, I would be brimming with exitement- I wondered how I would fit in with the crew, I also wondered where the Dragonborns that had enslaved me where.I would polish my lute and play a few strings before leaving the room. I would ask the barmaid when the next time I could perform that night could be.
