Stardust on Stone leans toward the woman from the tavern and the kenku. “Psst,” he says, “I think I saw you two at the tavern earlier today. Interested in the guard job, right? Do you know of a good place to curl up tonight? Where can we stay until we leave tomorrow?” He pauses, thinking. “Maybe the elf with the flute and the guy with the scar have ideas.” He looks for the other two.
The silver eyed elf probably could have dropped out of this mission and went ahead with his own plans, but he could feel a weight of curiosity... a weight of responsibility to the group start to grow. Sairn had done things that he's not proud of, in service of his vengeance. it would be nice for a change to protect something, rather than destroy it. He sighed.. Still can't allow himself to get close to people... they still are strangers.
He was crossing over when he bumps into someone, caught off guard just for a moment, the elf rolls into a fighting stance and snarls. "Do not test me." He whispers, looking up.
Stardust on Stone puts his empty hands up. "Sorry," he says to the silver-eyed elf. "Sorry. No test intended." He lowers his hands, hoping he has not caused offense. "We all seem to be interested in this job guarding the caravan. Do you know of a good place to rest for the night? I'm new to this town," he says. "My name is Stardust on Stone. My friends call me SOS. What are your names?"
He opens his arms wide and gestures at the inside of the church. "No one said we couldn't sleep here. Won't sleep through the meeting that way. However, I'm open to other possibilities. What do you all think?"
He watches the elf, the kenku, everyone he can see.
The elf wasn't so comfortable with others, in his line of work, it wasn't something that had a long shelf life, but seeing as how this will only be few days, and what seems like a simple job. He sighs and straightens his lithe figure, body still tense."Sairn... I have met a Tabaxi before." Sairn bows his head slightly."You seem... much nicer than the last" Looking around, he shakes his head.."There's a farmhouse a mile down the road, I'd feel safer there than in a place of worship.. "The elf says cryptically. "However, on this short notice, we may have to bend the law... you okay with breaking and entering, Stardust on Stone?"Cocking his head to the side, appraising the cat like creature.
"Hi, I'm Tool! Nice to meet you!" Tool chirps, extending a clawed hand toward the tabaxi for a handshake. When the elf suggests breaking and entering, Tool’s cheery demeanor falters. A frown appears on their beak. I won’t sully the start of my new life by committing a crime. “If you’re fine with breaking and entering, what’s stopping you from stealing the church’s cargo - the very thing we’re supposed to protect?” Tool questions the elf, their tone filled with suspicion.
Sairn didn't know what to make of the Kenku, but it wasn't off to the best of starts. He holds up his hands and sighs "I have no interest in the cargo for one, Kenku.."Again not using the others name.. not out of disrespect. "This is a mission, a dangerous one at that." The Kenku and Tabaxi were close together with Sairn so he lowers his voice "What if they were followed? That is why we should go elsewhere and meet them on the trail in the morning. I saw a farm a mile from here. I will do what I must to survive. Will you?"
Stardust on Stone shakes hands with Tool and nods back to Sairn. The kenku has a good grip and the elf is serious. They will make good companions.
"I can break and enter if The Cat Lord wills it. But we are on the edge of being paid gold, serious gold for me." He looks over his shoulder toward the door and anyone who might be listening. He whispers, "When we talk to the farmer, we should try honey before a sting. How disappointing it would be for the Town Watch to detain us and keep us from the gold and the food," his stomach growls loudly as he says this, "it can buy."
He looks toward the woman from the tavern and the man with the scar. "Allies can be helpful," he says. "Inviting them along might be wise. More means merrier."
The wagon is currently not at the Church, it's whereabouts and contents are unknown.
There is a nearby inn, the Sleeping Cat, where you can stay for the night with a meal for 5 sp, and a few cheaper options for 2 sp it you're not looking for any comfort. Additionally, you could probably find a hay loft or empty barn if you wanted to stay the night for free. (The one some of you spotted for example).
Sleeping on a pew at the church could be an option, though it will be extremely uncomfortable, as they are made of hard wood and narrow. You may even roll off them, requiring sleeping acrobatic checks! :)
Considering the options, Sarin the distrusting Elf finally nodded.."Strength in numbers would be wise, although this talk of gold makes me feel like no one should sleep at all together." His lips curl slightly, "I vote we stay at the barn I saw, doubtful we will have any trouble at this time of night... staying at the church could... be uncomfortable."
"The Sleeping Cat sounds wonderful to me," Stardust on Stone says, "but Sarin has a point. I vote for the barn as well." He gathers his bow and pack, the leather of which is covered in fine Dwarvish runes. "Tool, what are your plans?" He looks around for the others, wondering where they will stay.
"Fine, I vote for the barn as well. Better to stick together as a group and get know one another if we're to work as a team." Tool says, nodding along.
"However, We will pay for our stay - either with gold or with service. It's a barn. I'm sure the owner needs help with chores." Tool says to the group, though it's mostly directed toward the elf.
The elf rolls his eyes..."Fine, but you know your kind isn't too common around here, right?" Sairn gets his things together.. He doesn't see the boy with the scar or the girl so he turns on his heel, massaging his trusty flute under his coat. "Follow me.. its not far."
They walk in silence for most of the way, then the Elf spy stops at the sign, looking over at the farmhouse and barn.. "Would you like to knock on the door?" A little smirk plays on his lips.
The group of recently met job seekers seek out the barn on the edge of the city. There, they meet a friendly family, who, after some discussions are happy to have the group sleep in their barn, asking them to kill any pesky rats they see. Other than that, the night is uneventful.
The next morning, everyone shows up at the church just as the sun rises above the eastern residences. Hitched to a large wagon are two draft horses. Sitting on the driver's bench, seemingly half awake, are two gnomes, a male and a female, bearing a striking resemblance to each other.
Father Armon and Brother Dorai are making last minute inspections of the cargo.
"Good luck! Be safe! In warmth, abundance, and vitality, may we find our sanctuary" the father says, and turns and takes leaves into the front doors of the church.
"OK, you lot ready?" says the golden dragonborn, looking at the sky. "Looks like rain is coming, let's get started, we got a full day's ride."
With these words, the gnomes wake up. "Alright, you heard the man, ah dragon man, Cleo, let's go" says the male gnome. "Hi, I'm Cleo, this is my brother Leo" she says to you all. "Happy to meet you all. OK Cookie!" she says loudly, looking at the horse directly in front of her,"Canter!", and the two horses start moving. They lead you through a gate and out the northern side of the city, then immediately take the road to the East.
"OK, two days on The Skapa Road!" Leo says, smiling at you all, then adds "Your shift sister...", and closes his eyes.
I sigh, "Well, let's organize ourselves. H.L.I.L.H. would work well for this." I don't elaborate on what that means, but go about 60ft in front of the cart.
"I'm sorry," Stardust on Stone says once he's also 60 ft in front of the cart. "I don't know what H.L.I.L.H. means. Will you explain it to me?"
He holds his bow and considers the landscape, looking for rocks or trees that are close to the road and large enough to hide ambushers. He will also watch for other carts and bends in the road that make it difficult to see.
"Heavy, Light, Important, Light, Heavy." I look at you expecting you to understand. "You keep the important stuff in the middle and you surround it equally. Only didn't work for me once." I lightly touch myscar on my check and turn away from the tabaxi. "Seeing that you have a bow, I would go back towards the carriage, unless you can have a useful idea."
I think that's what Stardust on Stone is?

"Ah," Stardust of Stone says. "Heavy, Light, Important, Light, Heavy. I see." He rubs his whiskers. "And it only hasn't worked once? Good to know." He will stop walking, letting the scared man walk on, and waiting for the cart to catch up. Once it does, he starts walking again, bow in hand.
He will try to get to know the horses and walk right in front of them, perhaps between them if there is room.
Tool observes the strange symbol on their necklaces.

Tool, the Kenku Wizard
Tool stows their spell book into their large backpack, and smiles.
Good! I'm finally working for good people now!
