Rachus seeks stable ground and cover as that dread feeling begins bubbling up from his gut Though it may be obvious he tells the others "Beware some foul magic from below the ground. I can feel it"
Skritch and Rachus you race after Dealuri into the ruins and toward shelter (Thanadol do you follow?)
Dealuri you are now closing on on the strange buildings that Vakas was scouting out. You see one of the doors burst open and a short woman in blue robes peeks out and cries toward you,
"Quick, get inside. If it sees you, you are dead!"
A blue robed arm emerges to drag her back inside and she shrugs it off, her face flushed with anger as she argues with someone else within the building.
Thanadol and Vakas you both see within the vast plumes of smoke, a gargantuan shadow emerge. Enormous bat-like wings unfurl behind this gargantuan thing and begin to beat against the poisoned air sending rolling clouds of noxious gas fanning out throughout the ruined town.
Dealuri does as the short woman says and also makes sure Skritch and Rachus get in before unleashing a torrent of questions. Where the devil is Thannadol? Oh, I hope he is alright. Thank you, ma'am. I would hug you but that didn't work out so well last time. You aren't a hag, by any chance, are you? And what do you mean, it will kill us? What is it?
Dealuri you burst through the door and release your stream of questions into the shocked faces of three blue robed figures, one being the woman who allowed you inside. She attempts to answer you several times, but your questions slam in one after the other until she finally chooses to answer the last one.
"It is a beast of the shadowlands summoned by kobolds." he explanation is interrupted as Sunhill charges in behind you with Skritch clinging tightly to his back. Rachus and Ember stumble in shortly after, panting with the effort.
"Close the bloody door!" snaps one of the blue robed strangers; a man with dark skin and startling blue eyes.
"Wait Vandar, there is another." the short woman snaps as she peers out to see Thanadol racing toward the shelter.
Thanadol you run toward the others as glancing back you see the terrible creature rising into the air above the chasm. Make a wisdom saving throw.
Vakas you sneak up to the building and gain entry to one of the rear windows without detection. Roll 1d4
Vakas (with a 3) you work open the window and slip through no problem. Dropping panther-like into the dark room beyond. You are in a small bedroom and can hear the voices of the others through the closed door. Your attention however is taken by the huge mastiff lying on the rooms single bed. It cocks its head to one side and give a low growl of warning.
Thanadol (with a 4) the shadowed horror rising from the chasm fixes you with a baleful glare. Darkness assails your mind, stripping away your intricate magical defences and tearing into your soul. You fall to your knees as the overwhelming horror of the creature begins to smother your senses. You take 4 psychic damage.
The rest of you see Thanadol fall his knees as the vast shadow of the beast rises into the air in the distance.
Oh seven hells, now is not the time to fall down! Looks like we gotta go get him. Dealuri then dashes out the door, much to the disbelief and disapproval of the folks in blue robes Her intent is to drag Thanadol to the house (STR 15), although she has not thought through what would happen next since the beastie would no doubt have figured out where its prey went. Keep the door open!
Rachus with adrenaline running through him makes a mad dash indoors with his heart beating in his chest in hopes of whatever that horror is won't find him.
He peeks outside in case anyone needed help or if Dealuri became injured
Dealuri you race to Thanadols side and help him to his feet.
Thanadol you are dazed and confused as Dealuri leads you back to the shelter. You skin is drenched with a cold sweat and your feet feel like lead.
You all watch as Dealuri leads the wizard back. The vast creature continues to climb into the lead grey sky and as it rises higher all light seem to drain from the land.
"Get in, get in!" the robed woman cries as she reaches out to slam the door closed. She places both hands either side of the frame and mutters arcane words beneath her breath. There is a brief flash of blue light and then she steps back with a gasp of relief.
"That was too close." the man named Vandar growls.
The third robed fellow, a short stocky man with a shock of blonde hair and green eyes looks worriedly between Vandar and the woman.
"I am Kineth." the woman offers at last, "What brings you all to this Gods forsaken place?"
"Dear hosts, our, er, bard, Rachus, is best places to relate our most surprising quest to you,"Skritch telepaths the trio, adding, "I imagine sustenance could be difficult to come by in this grim, er... unusualplace.
"Would you benefit - each of you, of course - from a, er, a hearty Goodberry?"
Thannadol attempts to signal to them that they can't just leave it alone
Per above, Skritch heads for shelter as soon as he sees others responding to his warning!
