Vakas kneels down as before, taking out his picks and showing Skritch where to hold one, he attempts to open the locked door. “That’s it, right there, I can feel it...". He feels the tumblers turning, trying his best to be quiet as he works on the lock.
Sleight of hand, unlocking the door with help from Skritch : 17

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Amazing, thinks Skritch to himself. The ingenuity of this world!
He thinks about it some more as he watches Vakas put away his tools.
But why, he continues to muse, why go and invent doors if you're only going to then have to invent a way to stop them opening...? This world! This amazing, confounding world!
Vakas you open the door and the passage is bathed in a eldritch blue light. Your eyes widen as you see at the far end of the room a churning sphere of magical energy. It floats above a jet back plinth that seems to drink in the magical light. Vibrant sparks of blue crackle in the air around the sphere which hisses and hums with power.
On the south wall you see a single blade leaning against the wall and further on an alcove containing another door.
Thanadol (with a 22) you surmise it is safe to approach. The sparks may make your hair stand on end but that is all. (With a 23) you recognise this magical construct from your studies though you have not seen it in person before. It is some sort of control orb, though old and clearly somewhat faulty. A magic user interacting with the orb should be able to control magical wards and devices elsewhere in the vicinity. You think back to the magical noose that almost snagged Vakas and the dark spell that attacked you all as you entered the dungeon. Most likely those traps could be cast and controlled from here.
OOC: If you choose to interact with the orb describe how and roll 1d6, it will not be without risk as the magic is clearly old a has started to degrade.
Thanadol is very interested in this magical device and will not fear a little danger to examine it. And what better way to examine it then to attempt a prank. Thanadol will touch the orb and attempt to tell it to create a non lethal trap on the healthiest tank in the party. If any rolls are neccesary Intelligence: 10 Arcana: Crit, 25 Dex save: 14
Edit: Forgot to include the d6 roll, the roll is 3
Skritch telepaths to the group as Thanadol does his 'prank', "One wonders if this blade is connected, the one leaning here, if it's, er, affiliated in some arcane manner with the trap globe..."
Rachus is wary of sparking globe and keeps his distance trusting in Thanadol's knowledge. "Ah lightning has a certain beauty but is also dangerous. I think I will stay back a bit"
Vakas agrees with Rachus, he stands with him near the doorway. A grin comes to his face and he casts a spell, something you haven’t seen him do before besides his message when he found the old hag. He casts a glowing, ethereal mage hand, and sends it across the room, picking up the sword, bringing it back to him. “Back away, I wouldn’t get too close to that glowing orb, looks dangerous!”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Skritch (with a 16) The sword leans casually against the damp stone wall, as if waiting for the right hand to claim it. Its blade is long and slightly curved, forged from a strange dark metal that seems to drink in the blue light of the orb rather than reflect it. Veins of faint blue light pulse just beneath the surface, like lightning trapped under ice. Is it just a reflection of the magical orb or some power of its own? The hilt is wrapped in cracked leather, ancient but intact, and the cross guard curves upward like the wings of a bird mid-flight.
Carved into the fuller is a single word in an unknown script. The air around the weapon hums softly, a low, persistent vibration that sets your teeth on edge and makes the hairs all over your body rise. Even untouched, the sword seems aware.
A whisper flickers at the edge of your mind: "Awaken me."
Thanadol while Skritch examines the sword you place your hand upon the orb and feel an instant connection with the dungeon. All at once you feel the layout of the structure in your mind, every room, every opening, every passage. You sense the spell of warning and are able to deactivate it with a mere thought, you feel the conjured noose trap and can see how it was made and set. With a mischievous smile you twist the spell and create a similar trap above the head of Dealuri.
Dealuri make a DC 12 Dex saving throw as a magical bucket of water is discharged above your head.
Vakas your magical hand floats forward and retrieved the sword from beneath Skitch's nose. Floating it back toward you, you deliver your warning about the orb and... (make a wisdom saving throw)
Dealuri involuntarily flinches when Thandol touches the orb even though nothing obvious happens to him. She then intently watches Skrtich and Vakas and the sword, so intently that she has no particular awareness that there is a magical bucket of water above her head until she gets doused with the water (dex roll 7)! Sputtering, she shakes her head like a wet dog and asks, "What just happened? Is it raining?"
Vakas the sword is suspended in front of you, just within reach. You raise you hand to grasp it and... stop. You feel the eagerness from the sword, you feel the eagerness within you swelling to meet it. Your fingers twitch and you pupils dilate in anticipation. Then...
NO!
The thought forms clear and sharp in you mind. This is not right, this is not you... this blade is cursed!
Thanadol kind of chuckles softly, oops sorry Dealuri seems like it takes great subtlety. He turns his attention back on the orb, and tells it to fill the space they already passed with traps and disperse the ones ahead.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thanadol you give the order to "fill the space you already passed with traps" and the orb blazes out with power. Sparks fly in every direction and the ground begins to rumble softly. Energy begins to build beneath your palm as the ancient orb works to obey your will. You manage to impress your order for traps to be dispersed in the spaces ahead in the split second before the sphere explodes sending you flying backward into the room, taking 5 bludgeoning damage.
The blue light blinks out and the ground continues to rumble for a moment or two before stopping. For a moment you retain your sense of the dungeon, you feel the magical traps snapping into place throughout the dungeon and two visions flash into your mind before you black out.
You see an iron chain wrapped around a milky white scaled leg, it begins to glow brighter and brighter until it explodes.
You see a bridge set across a subterranean river, covered it glowing red runes. The runes flicker, the runes dance and then just like the chain...
All of you hear the distant explosion and a terrible roar of pain and anger.

Skritch will offer to hold Vakas' lockpicks for him to give the Help action.
Sunhill sniffs around in the short corridor being a pretty standard, you know, dog.
"I must say - and by say I mean mindthink -, Vakas," sends Skritch, "I do so admire watching an expert equalize...!"
Vakas kneels down as before, taking out his picks and showing Skritch where to hold one, he attempts to open the locked door. “That’s it, right there, I can feel it...". He feels the tumblers turning, trying his best to be quiet as he works on the lock.

Skritch will trot over to the blade leaning against the wall. He won't touch it. What can he make out about it?
