"I, I have never seen a dragon before," stutters Dealuri quietly. "And I probably would have been fine without having seen one so up close." Dealuri tightens her grip on her longbow but does not yet shoot in case someone smarter than her can think of a better plan than to attack it.
Back till Monday before I leave for almost a week.
Thanadol looks interestedly at the dragon. Carful, he's not small and looks dangerous. I'm not sure we could win a fight against him. What do we want to do?
Upon hearing Ember's words Rachus looks about for cover and seeing no doom coming his way breaths a little easier though the fear still remains in him. He takes his flute, and he plays in pianissimo a very soft series of musical notes. Which gives Vakas a Bardic Inspiration (1d6). "I hope that helps" he whispers.
Skritch Messages Vakas, "Can you tell if it's free? Or tethered? I don't see how folks as, er, inexperienced as we can hope to defeat an aged draconian.
"But... if it needs our help...
"Or... and I almost wasn't going to say this, but, is it real? Or an illusion? Vakas? ... Vakas?"
Skritch hopes the illusion hasn't just eaten Vakas.
Vakas is moving forward as quietly as he can, he sees and senses the dragon and stops dead in his tracks, holding his hand up as he crouches.
Vakas stealth, with bardic inspiration : 18
He backtracks back to the group and quietly whispers to them, “What would you like to do? I don’t know that we are strong enough to take on a dragon, is this what the kobolds are worshipping? Feeding?”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Skritch offers, "I think we might need our wizard to talk to it. The Draconic will be a nice touch. Shows, er, respect."
Skritch is all for showing of respect when the respect recipient is a beast that could choose to end them like a promising Netflicks series*...
*Netflicks is a type of storytelling where Skritch comes from. People crochet images from a story into a shimmering loose-weave quilt (aka 'net') and then the sew-bard shakes (or 'flicks') the quilt in such a way as to bring the images 'to life' for their audience.
Many of the most popular Netflicks sagas get canceled only part way through - often to an audiences deep chagrin because the heroes have been left on a cliffhanger - as the weaver gets distracted by a new story they want to tell. Or nuts.
Thanadol nods, very well my defender. He strides across the room cloak fluttering, sweeping into a bow before the dragon. And in draconic say "Great dragon we have come before thee to inquire into thy great knowledge. And seek to know the secrets of this great cavern"
Thanadol at your words the dragon stops its clawing at the door and slowly, deliberately raises its head to peer down at you and Dealuri. (roll for perception with advantage) as it speaks,
"An elf and a human.." it cocks its head to one side and sniffs deeply, "...and others back there in the gloom; and here I was expecting a merge feast feast of stringy kobold meat."
The vast creature runs its black tongue over yellowed fangs as it looks down at you, "You seek knowledge and secrets elf? I smell goblins back there in the darkness, bring them out and I will consider your request while I feed."
Skritch Messages, from well back in the dark, possibly around a v polite corner, "Er... er, ask him about Elvyn - Oh, and tell him we need this, er, goblin, this captive goblin to force her to help us recapture all the other goblins the stupid kobolds set free..."
"But that he can have her once we've got them all back for him."
And even though he was messaging Thanadol so Ember didn't pick up any of that, Skritch says to her, "We might have to say some things now that sound like we are going to betray you goblins - but we won't actually do it, okay? You get that, right? We did help you all escape, right? Just act like you're our, er, captive. Just for a little bit. Please.
Thandol (with a 17) you notice a large broken chain and shackle strewn across the floor here, and studying the dragon you see the scarred ring around its leg where it would seem until recently it had been bound. Thinking back to your meddling with the magical orb and the vision you received from it, you surmise that your command to dismantle all traps ahead may have inadvertently freed this creature. had it been a captive if the kobolds? It certainly seems to have no love for them. Perhaps it will be grateful to you for freeing it?
Vakas stands up and stops creeping to the side, hearing "the others back there in the gloom", he assumes they have all been seen. He walks forward slowly, to the side of his fellow elf Thanadol. IfThanadol shares this information and his conclusions, Vakas would say "Excuse me, I have never seen a dragon like you. What is your name, what may we call you? I see you have been clawing at that door... what lies behind it?" Then in a softer voice he states, "Would you like me to try and open it for you? I have a way with opening doors... but I would want to know what lies behind there. We come in search for one called Elvyn, that the kobolds captured. Have you heard of him?"

I would be happy to hunt you another feast great dragon, but please allow us to keep this goblin she is a friend of ours! I have just released you from your bonds as a personnal favor and to ask for a service I hate to see those imprisoned wrongly, we offer you many feasts to come and would like some information and entry through that door. Please great dragon humble us with a favor and we may serve you!

Skritch Messages Ember, "Okay so we're not pretending you're a captive so forget the stuff I was worried saythinking before."
Skritch walks Sunhill out of their "safe" corner - but stays back, beside Ember. He is definitely not into the idea of giving her up for the dragon to 'feed on'.
OOC: I will let Thanadols rolls carry for both him and Vakas here.
Vakas you leave the shadows stepping up alongside the wizard. "There is power in names elf." growls the dragon, "Grimfang the Kobolds call me, so that will suffice for you." It lowers its head to study you eye to eye as you make your offer and ask your questions.
Thanadol, before the dragon can answer you offer your own words and the dragons dead black eyes shift to you as you talk. You can feel its cold fetid breath on your skin and the stench of it brings tears to your eyes.
"You broke the chains elf?" it rears up, spreading its tattered wings wide, "Foul creatures! The kobolds tricked me, trapped me and kept me bound as their watch dog. So clever they thought themselves and now they are trapped behind this door. I will break it, I will rend their flesh... I will break their clever little bones." The dragons tail whips through the air as it preens and boasts about the fate of the kobolds and then all of a sudden it appears to remember you are here and settles back down to fix its glare upon you.
"Keep your stinking goblins then and open this door. I know of no Elvyn, but if the kobolds still hold him here, he will be found within. Open the door and enjoy my gratitude. I will not harm you or your companions... not while kobolds remain to receive my wrath."

"Vakas," Skritch sends, "is Ember right? Is it a dragon? Is it a big one or a young one? Does it want to, er, to be friends?"
And, as an afterthought, "Oh. Also, be careful!"

You know I can talk to it but if it attacks I can't be hit or I am in trouble

Just to also be polite himself, he kind of backs him and Sunhill out of any likely line-of-fire...
