"Sergeant, no offense meant, but why are we being lied to about no one being sent before us?"
The sergeant looks at the bodies before responding in his ever-stoic voice. "I'm not sure; I believed we were the first down here too. I told you exactly what the lieutenant told me, nothing more, nothing less."
Zozzie was lost for a moment in thought about spider poison and Zbornak’s predicament when he almost missed Cadence’s mention of other delver’s. He looks to Sergeant Bakh to gauge his reaction remembering the same as the bard about no one else (or the first) to search for this artifact.
“Sergeant.” His voice steady, “You should take a few berries as well.” He hands his superior two of the Goodberries.
(Insight: 21)
The sergeant takes the berries and eats them. Beneath the his typical composed nature and steady voice, you sense confusion and betrayal. He's just as astonished at the revelation as you are, but he keeps a calm manner to avoid panic among the group.
“Very well Sergeant. It seems we were all misled to a degree. But there is nothing else to do but charge forward into the unknown - for others may have perished in the quest, but we shall prevail and return victorious!”
Cadence says all this with many flourishes of his hands and with a very performative voice.
Zyrelle suggests, "I think we should advance slowing and take the time to recover after each fight. If we push ourselves too hard, we would be all to likely to end up like them."
Zyrelle will look at her teammates to see who was still injured.
Zbornak returns to the room, the last of the unfortunate Delvers placed carefully in the entrance chamber. She's still pretty badly injured, and though her Dockborn instincts tell her to suck it up and keep moving, her training as a member of this unit tells her she needs to rest. "Actually, yeah, Zyrelle - I could use about an hour to catch my breath, if you guys don't mind."
(Zbornak could use a short rest, if everyone is okay with that)
{OOC: Goodberries are great for getting back the last few HP after other healing, since they provide single HP healing that can be divided however is needed.}
Zozzie, comfortable with Sergeant Bakh’s acknowledgement concerning the situation lets the topic drop. “What any of us knew about the situation matters not now. We are all in this together. And it is together, and our reliance on each other, that will see us through.”
”Rest as you can. I will keep your watch until we are ready.” The Ranger moves to maintain watch on the area yet unexplored, melding into to shadows as best as he can, but with very little effort.

The rest goes undisturbed, save for a few spiders crawling along the stony floor.
Zbornak stands, stretches, and adjusts her pack straps. She heads over to where Zozzie is keeping watch. "Thanks again, I suppose I was over-excited and those spiders were more nimble than your usual creep on the Docks. I'm ready to go find this artefact, how about you?"

“Yes, I’m ready. I may not have needed the rest this time, but I am sure we will each be taxed in different ways.” Zozzie stands, bow still in hand. “Let’s see what else is in store for us.

During the short rest, Cadence sings a sad tune about loss and death. Despite its words, the song gives an air of hope and more to come after death.
