Zina thought that watching Neiklot work would be fascinating, so her face fell a tad when he rejected her. At the mention of being able to help, however, her mood quickly shifted. "We all traveled with Orst on our way here!" She said quickly. There was a faint nagging in the back of her head that told her that perhaps the book already in her possession would be the key. But she ignored that, not wanting to let anyone know that she had such a powerful object. "What do you need?"
"There's a peculiar creature named Aerie who sells rare books at Waukeen's Promenade in Athkatla (Amn). Orst is in good stead with many of the merchants there." Neiklot holds up his pipe. "That's where I get my pipeweed! But anyway... She's like something between a fae and an elf and I know she's got a fascination for the Red Wizards. If it's true these pages originate with them, I would bet she has a book or two that could help us. Perhaps you could talk to Orst and have him strike a good bargain with her on as many of them as we can get. I've got..."
His lips purse and he furrows his brow. After a moment, he glances over at Siwel.
"Just over two-thousand gold shields. Tenfold more if you didn't smoke so much..."
"Yes, yes," Neiklot interrupts. "Two-thousand gold shields. Whatever Orst can bargain for with that amount, I'd like him to strike a deal and retrieve them for me. Can you talk to him about it? I can't be spared and you seem to know something about the pages."

Portia takes in everything inside quietly making notes in her head about MacDonald, Siwel and Neiklot. Once he brings up Orst and the amount of money that can be used for the barter she lets out a low whistle. Though considering the books he wants, he might only get a couple for that price even with someone great at bartering.
"We might be able to catch up with him through Roe, who is being given the business. Orst still might be around since we only got here today."
"Consider us introduced," he says, laughing. "I suspect Orst is not retiring from brokerage - only shipping. He has an uncanny ability to turn contacts into profit. He's a far cleverer dwarf than most would imagine."

"He definitely is. Hopefully some of that rubs off on Roe. But after this last shipping trip I wouldn't blame anyone older not wanting to do it." Portia smiles. "Now I only saw a hint at the brokerage he does. Not sure how one deal turned out, since he broke it out for a good drink instead. But well we needed it at the time."
"My father hired Kanon to bring the documents. Oddly the things I wound up doing made me run into him on the way here. If timing were different I might have been the one bringing the documents instead of Kanon. I think it worked out better this way all around."
She looks about at her friends still smiling. Even if they drove her nuts at times, maybe most of the time, they were all good folks and would stick together. She wondered how long that would last as it seemed there were plenty of things to do as a team, but one never knew how life would go. It was definitely an omen that they had come together. She could think of plenty of what-ifs that could have happened if they had not gotten together and most of them worse than what they already went through together.
Kanon looks over at Portia at the mention of his name and nods in Neiklot's direction, "I think we can do this. We've come in to horses and a cart and I think Orst will be more than happy to help." He adds, "We may even be able to find an export to transport..."
"Very true." Portia grins. "That possibility is probably good. We shall have to see how this is to be worked out since it does have to be Orst that gets to Amn to do it. Unless they would work with a few writs, but on some things better to have the right person there."

Pettilaen's enthusiasm died down slightly at the prospect of book-finding. He could only keep his hopes up with the thought that there still might be use for his talents. At the very least, you've found a lot of new spells, and you'll get to try them out! That seemed to keep him in high spirits. Plus, he'd always wanted to go to Amn.
The thought struck him. What about Baradwulf? They were also supposed to find the genasi pirate and bring him into the authorities. "Uhhh... Going to Amn sounds great and all, but does it have to be immediately? We're looking for a genasi pirate named Baradwulf. He kidnapped the prince of Eltuur, and while we rescued the prince, the pirate got away. It was a great story - just ask Kanon!" he says, focusing his attention between Neiklot and the rest of the group. Continuing, he states, "I have some contacts I could reach out to, who probably have word on Baradwulf's whereabouts and dealings." He didn't like planning... it made life too rigid and boring when everything was thought out, so he left it there.
"I thought you would be able to handle that first issue that had us heading this way and might not work with my with you." She winks at the gnome. "We won't be running off to Amn today, but at least can see if we have to go with Orst or how this works. We definitely need to work on finding out where Baradwulf went, but I was going to bring that up after this conversation was concluded."

"As soon as we find Baradwulf, we head to Amn then?" Zina piped up. She had felt on top of things talking about the scrolls, but had quickly become the least knowledgeable person in the room as the conversation shifted to transportation. "I would very much like to be of service to Sir Neiklot." The gnome still held onto the scrolls, not quite ready to part with them yet.
"Deal, Zina." he said soundly, spitting onto his hand and holding it outstretched, fully expecting the fellow gnome to understand the gravity of the spit shake. To Pettilaen, it was the highest of promises, the soundest of bonds. To agree over a spit shake meant that such an agreement would be carried out, no matter the difficulty of the situation.
Looking around, he saw the disgusted faces. "What?" he questioned innocently. "It's a thing!"
Without a blink, Zina spit into her palm and shook Pettilaen's hand, fully understanding the gravity of the situation. "Don't worry about them," she said in gnommish. "They're not as awesome as we are."
"Then it's settled Master Neiklot." Kanon smiles as the gnomes shake hands. "We will immediately set ourselves upon acquiring these Red Wizard books right after we capture a dangerous pirate. I don't suppose it'll take more than a couple days. In the meantime, would you like us to petition for Orst's assistance on your behalf?"
Zina glanced down at the scrolls, not ready to part with them. She wanted to be there when they unlocked the mystery! But fate, and her friends, had other plans for the illusionist.
"I'll be back soon," the gnome solemnly handed the scrolls to Neiklot. "And when I do come back, I can't wait to hear what progress you made. And what progress Siwel made on those documents on Taskmaster Llomache. Those sounded fascinating." Zina grinned, giving a little awkward curtsie before making her way toward the exit. "Good day!"
Portia looks to the door Neiklot pointed at. She chuckles and puts a finger over her lips as she smiles. After giving him and Siwel a nod, she followed Zina to the door wondering what would really happen next.

Scrolls. He only recently began to understand what was so exciting about them. His first experience with magic was one he would never forget, and it came from studying scrolls. For that, he knew that whatever she possessed and had given to Neiklot, it would contain something exciting. But they also needed to capture a pirate. Baradwulf.
"I'll go find Baradwulf." Pettilaen quickly states, moving to the door. "I have some contacts I can reach out to, who might be able to help us locate him." By this time, he's several paces out the door. "Oh! And don't follow me. It'll be dangerous." he remarks, turning back to wink at the group before rushing off down the street. It had been awhile since he was on the streets of Baldur's Gate, but that familiarity would never leave him.
This was his home.
Portia would eventually find that Pettilaen had slipped a large bag of coins [90 gold pieces] onto her person with a note attached to it, which read: "Keep it secret. Keep it safe. I'll be back at the warehouse when I return. Please take care of Luckyhoof while I'm gone. You seem to be good with animals." A crudely drawn winkey-face ends the letter with a large "P".

With a wink and a nod, Kanon exits the scribe's shop with the others.
"This is exciting. Where do we start!?"
Although Kanon was eager to get back to see his family, this seemed much more fun and exciting than returning to his boring old life. He'd visit them later in the afternoon. There was plenty of time for family reunions later.

Portia chuckles at the gnomes. "We might at least see if it is worth finding him at this point. Wouldn't it be crazy if things aligned again?"
