Perspicacious shouts a warning to Amaruve (Bonus Action: Help for Amaruve's first attack), then quickly turns the quarterstaff back into its original bow form, draws and shoots.

The firbolg attendant eyes Kyo with a not-so-subtle dislike. She hugs a cuckoo protectively before addressing you. "Back again, eh? Stay in the pen this time or I'll have the guard ban you from the games."

 Tuppin frantically flicks his wand at the Salamander, but nothing happens. He shouts, "No! Uh, holy crap! Try to get away from it!"

The smoke monster is struck by your force arrow, Perspicacious, and from the impact bursts a gout of flame, dealing 12 fire damage to anyone within 10ft of it (honor system). 

After Amaruve moves (assuming he doesn't destroy it first)... the smoke monster regards you both for a moment, then bellows and billows a stinking cloud that envelops you both. It then lashes its tail at the barbearian for:

Attack: 24 Damage: 15 bludgeoning + 6 poison

(Kyo, Tony, Jean, and Cordelia- you all hear screaming from the center of the fairgrounds. You see the nine-foot smoke monster facing down your friends!)

Tony squints at the smoke monster, muttering to himself, “Oh, but I can’t have one cigar.” He pats the little goblin on the head, “Tonya, stay with the nice human lady. I need to go have a discussion.” Initiative: 5, but is a small goblin in a large crowd.

Amaruve... (Initiative: 16)

takes a Wild Shape taking the first form he used so long ago. The Raptor easily navigates the narrow corridors and strikes the Salamander, Pouncing to hit
7 [Edit: 24 adv. below] for 9 and 
24 (adv. 13) for 6 slashing with his claws. (The first to hit, if either, attempts to knock the Salamander Prone. Str. Save DC 12. if prone use advantage.) He then bites 
6 (adv. 10) for 3 piercing.

(If 15 damage doesn't cut the mustard enough... On his next turn, Con save: 22)

Jean suddenly burst into a sprint when she heared the scream. Her eyebrows nearly hit her hairline when she saw the smoke monster confronting her friends. Not really having any good smoke related puns, she settled for "Blow away, or you're going to get smoked!" before taking a defensive stance in front of her friends.

Initiative: 11

Perspicacious will grab the bronze medal. "Tuppin, this better turn to gold when we're done here..."

She continues to back away, leveling the Empty Bow at the center of the smoke.

Attack: 10 Damage: 6 Sneak Attack: 8

Bonus Action: Perspicacious dashes, to get herself and the medal out of the arena.

Cordelia rushes toward the fight, but stays at a distance for now. She expertly hides behind a stall within range and fires off an arrow!

Movement: to the bad thing

Bonus Action: hide (crit on the stealth)

Action: shooting the bad thing. Attack roll: 23/24 advantage, damage: 8 + 7 piercing 

(Assassinate only works if we jumped the creature, right?)

(I'll let it slide this time, Ru. In the future, assassinate will only apply to surprised enemies, not just those that are taking sneak attack damage)

The smoke monster erupts in more gouts of flame under the force of your combined attacks. However, it continues to menace the group even as its substance roils. You are reminded briefly of the Pretender in his quicksilver beast form in the Intervening Space, but it's only a superficial similarity (Ru, roll a WIS save for me). It rears back with an enormous claw to strike down at Perspicacious, but just then...

The owl aarakocra that had been speaking to Jean raises its wing in a gesture of prohibition. It moves its beak, and the shuddering syllables of its speech accompanies a trio of glowing white sigils that appear in the center of the smoke monster. The creature arches its back and opens its maw in a wordless cry... 

Dispel: 16

...and then the monster dissipates entirely.

Kyo turns his attention from the bird game as he hears the scream, and takes off at a sprint towards it, but arrives just in time to witness a strange smoky monster disappear.

"Evvveryone okayy?.."

"I'm okay, but I'm having to reconsider the idea of the fair being a relaxing fun time," pants Perspicacious. She looks around the area where the smoke monster was, searching for clues to its origin, or aftermath.

Investigation: 7

Tony bursts out of the crowd, “Alright! Where is it!?” Tony looks around and sighs, “Great. Just missed it.”

Amaruve is clubbed by the creatures tail, and as it bursts with flames under the attacks Amaruve is knocked back, off balance as he's forced back into the black bear form. He rears up preparing to take a more resilient stance as the cresture is reduced to a cloud of ash.

Narrow streams of smoke trail after the bear as He turns to follow Prespicacious to the podium to accept a prize. Still hot embers glow dimly in his singed fur.

Tuppin runs up to the spot where the monster disappeared, invisible walls and traps that filled this space finally dispelled. Breathlessly, he places his hands on his knees and says, "That was (gasp gasp) CRAZY (gasp gasp)... What the crap was that thing (gasp gasp)?!" He leans over to retch as he inhales some of the lingering stinking cloud, then casts gust of wind to blow it upwards and away. 

Perspicacious and Amaruve, you see a charred (but still recognizable) bronze medallion lying on the ground. It has a single burning flame at its center. Perspicacious, even if you had rolled a crit 20 (on investigation), you wouldn't have learned anything else about the monster's origin. It appeared to have been completely unmade by the triple-sigil dispel cast by the owl-faced aarakocra. 

As you all congregate at the scene, you are joined by the aarakocra, who leans heavily upon a knobbled wooden staff as he stares at the spot where the monster stood. The crowd is beginning to calm down, but there the festival atmosphere is entirely gone from this place. Several members of the Iron Guard are offering words of comfort, and a tall, green-skinned half-orc woman wearing the uniform of an officer of the Guard approaches you. She is still out of earshot.

(Tony, can you roll perception for me?)

Where's Tonya, Tony?

Tonya is of course... over there! Wait. No. There? No. Here! No. Tony is frantically looking around for his younger sister, spewing a heap of goblin curses at a rate that would make a sailor blush.

Kyo sees Tony looking around frantically,  "Tony, what's wrong? Calm down."

All of you start to hear a building unrest in the crowd. 

"Josie! Josie, where are you?!"

"Autumn? AUTUMN!"

"Regarro Aluxus Rockspitter, you answer your mother! Reg!"
