The elemental showed some sign of the damage it sustained in its earlier fight with you. With the impact of Perspicacious' last force arrow, it explodes.
The water at your feet sloshes and froths. Then, bit by bit, it disappears. What is left is the smooth obsidian surface of reflective black glass that forms the "floor" of the void. Tony (and possibly Amaruve), whose slick dress shoes aren't ideally designed for trekking through neverending pools, will likely appreciate the chance to wring out their socks.
Though the water disappears, the stone dais and the charred yew trunks remain. There's a new arrival, too: Floating above the dais there is a small, wispy blue flame. It moves and roils much like the water elemental (and a DC 10 Insight or Arcana check will tell you that this is the spirit/ghost of that creature). For a brief moment as it hovers in front of you, a perfectly circular gateway revealing the interior of Castle Laputa appears in the center of the water spirit.
Amaruve rushes in before the opportunity is lost. Is that Burdee still here, or the children?
(Insight: 18) Amaruve nods his thanks to the spirit, feeling a sort of kinship with it. (Even though he can't turn into a Water Elemental for another 5 levels.)
The goblin gently raps the barrier in front of the hole, which dissolves instantly at his touch. As he does so, Amaruve, Perspicacious, and Jean- the three of you instantly hear that not-quite-a-sound that indicates that a Leap gate is open!
(Fiorello and Tony, you detect nothing. You simply see that the hole inside this water spirit opens to the rooftop of Laputa.)
The five of you step onto a field of soft green grass and wildflowers. You instantly recognize that you are standing on a rooftop. The blue sky arches over your heads, and white, puffy clouds lazily drift around and below you:
As the last party member steps through the portal, there is a soft POP as the hole disappears behind them. That tinnitus sensation is stronger now. Looking to the east, Jean, Perspicacious, and Amaruve can see the shining silver flame of the gate several miles away. You remember that Cordelia's device informed you that you had at least three days before the gate appeared when you arrived in this world, but that was less than two days ago. Either it's early (which has never happened), or...
Lying completely still in the field nearby is the dark, crumpled form of Burgee (the kenku storm sorcerer). He's alive, but there is a large, bloodied lump on the side of his skull. Scattered around him are the still-smoking remnants of one of the robotic guardians of Laputa.
From your vantage point on the roof, you see what appears to be the steam skippers in a courtyard below you about a half mile away. A couple of figures are milling about between them.
Amaruve (you've rolled enough lately so I'll just tell you): You smell trouble in the air. More specifically, you catch Sagacious' scent on the wind. He's been here on this rooftop recently, as have the Summer Folk.
(The gate will close soon! Even if you hopped in the steam skippers and abandoned the children to Sagacious, you might not make it in time! You have the following paths in front of you: 1) What to do/inspect about the kenku and the remains of the guardian, 2) Whether to reachTaesn ASAP and just hightail out of here for the gate, and/or 3) Tracking down Sagacious and rescuing those children again.
It's up to you all how you would like to proceed! Feel free to ask any questions here or on Discord!)
"I don't trust that gate. Something seem off, and Cord has never been off. Amaruve, if you have the scent, I say we go after Sagacious and the children. I don't like having unfinished business."
Amaruve lets his reptile form fade and shifts into a man. His hand rests on the Tanooki Charm. He hadn't considered the implications of the lost time. He felt a bit foolish.
"Will Sagcious follow?" He asks Prespicatious as he looks toward the portal. He wonders if Tony and Fiorello could recover the children on their own. Would the risk of leaving Segacious to his malice be greater than the risk of leading him to them?
"I don't think he's limited to just this reality. I could be wrong, but considering how full of himself he is, he probably has ways of traveling like we do. Maybe even more controlled ways. I think there's more to that staff, a piece missing, and I think he has it."Perspicacious uses the momentary pause to remove a few layers of outer clothing and wring out the water. She summons a floating disk and lays them out to dry.
The Sword of the Tower had always been a mystery, bound to her by the same kind of multiversal threads that had been manipulated to make Cordelia's ingenious device, and with abilities yet to be revealed. Jean murmured a quick prayer to Tymora, Goddess of Good Luck and hoped that the Smiling Lady could hear her from so very far away. Wether this worked or not would be a pure guess. Tossing dice with the universe, but if it worked they might have a better chance to save the children and leave.
"He's here, maybe if we hurry we can grab the kids and get out of here!" Jean said to the others. She took a breath, reached with her hand and her soul and called out "Sword of the Tower, come to my hand!"
Tony cracks his knuckles, “Listen. I don’t know much about you all, but I ain’t leaving the kids. If you need to leave, go, but I’m going to go teach Saggy a lesson he ain’t gonna forget.”

There is a flash of orange light, and suddenly Vox (the Voice of Laputa) appears in the center of the field. They turn left and right for a moment, clearly disoriented. Then they spot you and move, jerkily, in your direction. (Penguini, Vox is a hologram that briefly assisted the party after they arrived to the castle)
"Petitioners to the Trees! We lost sight of you entirely! We are afraid that we must ask you to make arrangements for a VISIT ON another day! One of our GUESTS-GUESTS-TS-TS is demanding a GREAT DEAL OF OURREsoooooources and we do not seem to be able-able to keep up with his-is-is..."
And with that, Vox disappears. Falling softly to the ground where they stood, however, is the Tower Blade! It looks as though your plea and Vox's hospitality were enough to return it to you, Jean!
Just then, there is a tremendous crack and the ground at your feet quakes. Birds, thousands of birds, suddenly take flight from the roof of the Solarium, which has just begun to slowly rotate...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Too far anyway" Amaruve says trying to gauge the time needed to reach the portal. With a slight smirk he nods to Tony and Jean, then sniffs the air for Saggy's scent. (Survival/Perception: (3)17) and takes off in that direction.
(Just to clarify: You are not standing on the roof of the Solarium. Your rooftop is a good distance away, but with a clear view of the rounded top of the Solarium)

Perspicacious will rush into the gateway as well, calling on the others to hurry lest the opportunity be lost.
Amaruve and Perspicacious collide with the standing gateway, which stretches inward like taffy before rebounding and sending the pair bouncing back.
