Etrus casts Synaptic Static a 20 foot radius sphere, aiming to catch as many fiends as he can in its forty feet area. Int save DC 19.
27 psychic damage on a fail, 13 on a success.
[Also: On a failed save, a target also has muddled thoughts for 1 minute. During that time, it subtracts 1d6 from all its attack rolls and ability checks, as well as any Constitution saving throws to maintain Concentration. The target makes an Intelligence saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.]
Save one is an auto fail
Save two is almost an autofail 4
Save three: 13
Save four is also an auto fail (-5 for the win!)

All four of the fiends fall to the ground, clutching their ears and screaming, other than one, a hell hound, who appears to be looking at the party peacefully, like it doesn't want to kill them, and it also has a large variety of wounds already on it.

Musashi’s eyes narrow as the psychic blast from Etrus ripples through the dark. He sees the fiends crumple, but his attention snaps to the wounded hell hound. It’s an unusual sight...a creature of flame and spite looking at them with something other than hunger.
"Hold your fire!" Musashi barks, his voice ringing out over the echoes of the explosion. He doesn't lower his maul, but he doesn't charge either. "Etrus scrambled their brains, and that hound looks like it's already had a worse day than we've had."
He glances at Gail, seeing the gears turning in her head. "Gail, if you’re going to try and charm a literal dog from hell, do it now while they’re still reeling. I’ll keep the others from finding their feet."
Musashi waits for his turn...

Gail pulls some jerky out of her back and tries to approach the Hellhound in a friendly and unthreatening manner. She offers the food trying to make a good first contact.

Musashi remains a statue of iron, his glowing maul held at the ready as Gail approaches the beast. He doesn't trust anything with "Hell" in its name, but he respects the results.
"Careful, Gail" Musashi warns, his voice low as he watches the jerky vanish into the hound's mouth. "A full stomach doesn't always mean a tamed heart. Keep your hand away from those teeth."

(I’m not sure if we’re in combat or if we wait for these persuasion moments to come to a conclusion?)
(I don't think anyone is sure of that at this point.. The big question is if any progress can be made towards taming before the other fiends recover. Maybe everyone else should be attacking them while they are easy targets...)
Do we roll imitative so we can attack? Or is it something else? I am just a bit unsure.
