I had it so that Celica and Greana followed the Celtic pantheon while Espar and Oblar followed the Egyptian pantheon and Arath followed a mixture of both.
Ila has a strong sense of wonder lust and has traveled to the former kingdom just recently. She's rather individualistic and holds no loyalties to any one group. However if she takes a job she will see it through come hell or high water.
Backstory: Xi Shi is a high society courtesan, which, if we are being frank here, my dear, just means a specialized and multitalented whore. Of course, she is much more than someone who accompanies another to bed so get the fancier title. She collects secrets - you know, pillow talk - and share those secrets with the folks who pay for that sort of knowledge. She collects debts, as well, since it can be harder to say no to a beautiful woman in, ahem, certain situations then it is to say no in a meeting. She can conclude negotiations in a loving embrace or send someone to their grave in a bloody mess. It all matters little to her other than the bag of gold that she uses to save her family and take the next mark. Xi Shi is comfortable in all types of society and knows all the right people, whether in the heights of the castle or the depths of the gutters. You can always find her since she always wears at least one bright red piece of clothing visible. You see, my dear, blood red is her business and she never forgets it.
Class and Subclass: First Vampire Patron Warlock 5
Background: Carouser
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Backstory: Born in Elderwatch, Zeth had no desire to be yet another manual laborer, didn't have the patience to work behind a desk, and was too ambitious to settle for those anyway. This ambition seemed unlikely to lead to anything, but Zeth managed to obtain a luxurious if haphazard lifestyle as a socialite. Still, he would take any chance to improve his situation, so when a mysterious stranger at one party offered him a "Unique Opportunity" after losing all their money to him in a game of dice Zeth accepted a cold handshake and discovered himself to be the newest Warlock of what was either an especially powerful Vampire or other being of blood and death.
Gaining the ability to summon a thirsting blade to his hand, see in any darkness, and a variety of other eldritch abilities Zeth has never regretted the deal he made. He saw saw a chance to obtain power, glory, and great wealth and decided to become an adventurer. He's hoping the money and fame from his adventures will get him closer to the kind of life he desires, and that through his Pact that life can be an eternal one. Although Elderwatch is more lenient when it comes to necromancy than many cities, Zeth doesn't advertise the full extent of his abilities, not wanting to attract trouble from those who'd consider them worth attacking him for.
Jeenyus Delkar grew up in the shimmering heights of Cloudgate, a city where magic is woven into every balcony, bridge, and breath of air. His family, the Delkars, were respected archivists and historians — elves who believed knowledge was the purest form of power.
But Jeenyus was never content to simply read history. He wanted to shape it.
He trained in the arcane arts with the same intensity others reserved for swordplay. When he discovered the ancient discipline of the Bladesong, it felt like destiny: a perfect harmony of intellect, motion, and magic. His instructors called him gifted. His peers called him obsessive. Jeenyus didn’t care. The Song called to him, and he answered.
When Basil Darkbranch, ruler of Cleica, died under mysterious circumstances, the kingdom trembled. A council was formed to maintain order — a gathering of leaders from every major city, including Cloudgate.
Cloudgate’s representative was Sir Nikolas Stoneclaw, a man Jeenyus had admired since childhood. Stoneclaw was everything Jeenyus respected: principled, sharp‑minded, and unafraid to speak truth even when it cut deep.
But after Basil’s death, Jeenyus noticed a shift in Stoneclaw. A tension. A quiet paranoia. A sense that the council chambers were no longer safe.
Then came the disappearance of Aren Stoneclaw, Sir Nikolas’s son.
Aren wasn’t just a noble’s child — he was Jeenyus’s closest friend. They had grown up together in Cloudgate’s gardens, sparring with practice blades, debating magical theory, and dreaming of the future. Aren was one of the few who understood Jeenyus’s relentless pursuit of mastery.
When Aren vanished, Jeenyus felt the loss like a snapped harp string.
Getting back into gaming and this sounds like fun. I'll throw my hat in. I'll roll for stats and I'm thinking a Half-Orc Barbarian/Warlock
Ability scores: 161316161514
Definitely liking those numbers
Name: Tolgar, the banished
Race: Half-Orc
Class and Subclass: Giant Barbarian3 // Fiend Warlock2
Background: Entertainer
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Backstory:
Once a warrior of the Snowthorn clan from Houndwood. Tolgar's clan was not big and never stood out other than their very pale green skin. He was determined to make something of himself by any means necessary. One night on a patrol with a couple others they came upon a very old orc like the size of a house. He offered them arcane power if they promise to serve him for life and in death. His allies began to retreat but his feet stood firm. The other orcs were quickly snatched and eaten by this monstrosity. For only a moment he hesitated before accepting; thinking this could be his only chance at greatness. Returning home later he could not explain away the disappearance of his fellow warriors and was immediately blamed for their murders then had his tribal braid cut from his scalp. With no other choice then to face his own mortality at the end of the executioner's blade, he managed to flee his home in exile leaving his former life behind.
He's since made a new life in Cloudgate, going on four years now. Tolgar has amassed a small following as the drummer for a band of misfits known as, The Damned. Dressed as ghouls, spirits, and demons, they play eerie music and are heavily rumoured to have sold their souls to numerous devils for their music skill. Which is only half true, his bandmates all had their reasons for making a pact but they were all just born musically talented. There was Naveen (an outgoing Gnome who knows multiple woodwinds), Falkrun (a boisterous Duergar Artificer who's true passion was singing), and Da'Har (a silver Dragonborn stringed expert and ex-Knight). Hearing that he has been been requested to join a dinner with a councilman filled him hope that this means his band has really hit the big time in Cloudgate! Or more likely, it's yet another request to 'get rid of' some vagrants in the wild causing problems for the farmers or miners. Only time will tell.
Ok, I know I took a long time to post my character, but I was trying to make the character connected to the lore in a good way. Anyways, here is my application:
Name: Albus Fion.
Race: Tiefling
Class and Subclass: Blood Hunter/ Order of the Ghostslayer.
Background: Haunted One.
Alignment: Neutral Good (used to be Lawful Good).
Backstory: Albus came from Elderwatch and was a victim from the "necromancy incident", loosing the entirety of his family when he was 11 years old. In the orphanage that he was sent to, he spent 5 years wanting to in some way bring justice (or revenge, he isn't sure what it is) for the many deaths that the incident brought (including his family). One day, a soldier came in looking for young kids who wanted to be soldiers and he joined the army.
He was an average soldier, so when a superior came to him with an "experimental training" that could "make him stronger to eliminate necromancy" he took it in a heartbeat (something he would regret later). This "training" was a harrowing experimental procedure that changed him and a few other trainees like him to use their blood to hurt their enemies and deal with any undead. Few of the subjects of the procedure survived, haunting him more than what he had being haunted already by losing his family.
After surviving the procedure, he became a Blood Hunter, who fought and killed may necromancers for over 13 years. Now he was a seasoned warrior haunted by his past and every awfull situation he ran into as a Blood Hunter.
Not so long ago, he was tasked to go to a dinner party in Cloudgate by it's councilman as one of the representatives of the Espar Kingdom's army.
Backstory: Hamma was a street urchin in Eldermaw. Hamma was quick with his hands and could take a beating, which was good because he was small for a dwarf and nobody would consider him the sharpest tool in the shed. He was well known to the authorities as his quick hands and brilliant exit strategies normally ended him up in cells. One job, where yet again his employers banked on Hamma to be the fall guy while the rest slipped away, Hamma found himself in the chambers of a visiting delegate from somewhere Hamma had never heard of. Hamma swiped a cool looking headband, and how else do you carry a headband then on your head. As soon as he put it on, he instantly saw his situation much clearer. Which also told him how much danger he was in. He realized another piece of equipment, gauntlets, looked magical and potentially assist in his escape.
Now in possession of items that give him the things he dreamed about, big brains and brawn, he quickly fled the city. Eventually using his new gifts to study magic and swing a big war hammer. Years have passed since that time and he has managed to hone his skills and make a bit of name for himself, currently living outside of Westgrove and providing his skills for a price.
A reborn barbarian (path of wild magic). Originally, long ago, in another life, this character had another name and was a wizard's apprentice. As part of his studies, to prove his worth to the magical order that he was to join, he had to undergo a trial called the crucible. He entered the tower. He started the ritual ... then something happened. An explosion. The tower was destroyed. The apprentice, along with other members of the order, was killed. Vaporized. Assumed dead. Then ... some months (perhaps years?) later ... they awakened, reborn, and not quite human any longer, with little to no memory of what happened or who they once were. Just vague feelings, memories that don't quite feel like their own, and a deep seated need to set things right. Wild magic fuels this character as they look for answers as to how and why they exist.
Not specifically tied to the Incident, but not not tied to the Incident either. :)
Backstory: Hailing from a sequestered convent devoted to the sun god Belenus in the mountains of Arath, Samael was never given the opportunity to know or be known by widespread humanity. Deemed as a gift from Belenus, the faithful of the convent sought to keep Samael away from the wickedness and evils of the world in an attempt to preserve their sacredness. However, as Samael grew and was blessed with the gift of healing, they sought to use their gift for the betterment of humanity, rather than remain hidden away. So, they left their convent and went down their mountain, beginning to travel across the land as a healer to any in need. With such a strange appearance signaling them so clearly as an aasimar, it didn't take long for them to obtain something of a following of faithful worshippers of the gods who viewed Samael as a blessing due to their compassion and kindness. Some people insisted upon paying them, though Samael tried to reject such things. Samael continued traveling - even across countries - simply going where they felt that Belenus was guiding them, their reputation preceding them in whatever city or town they manage to find themself in. It was through these travels that they met a human man named Romance Walters - whom they found themself falling in love with. The two eventually settled in Elderwatch - just in time for the necromancy incident. Despite all of Samael's healing, they were unable to save their husband. Since then, they have refused to settle down again, returning to their travels and offering healing or spiritual guidance to whoever calls upon them for help - though now wearing their mourning widower's clothes to always remember their lost love.
I had it so that Celica and Greana followed the Celtic pantheon while Espar and Oblar followed the Egyptian pantheon and Arath followed a mixture of both.
I'm okay with that.
