Pagan is a follower of the God Arawn, whom he has mentioned since you have adventured with him a couple times. (Pagan does like to talk.)
(DM should determine if you know anything about Arawn.)
Pagan's upbringing and his Religion definitely both weigh upon the way he plays out his life. (And his honorable yet sometimes foolish behavior.)
"Master Sooki says, 'take the King and the Pawns will fall'," says Pagan. "Attack the Blue Nose!"
Note: I posted this while 2 other posts went on. If Brumdal stops us from attacking first Pagan will not say this. (Until the Hobgoblins attack us anyway because they are, you know, *****.)
Brumdal has just enough movement to reach the downed hobgoblin youngling.
He does have to move within and without of reach of the hobgoblin nearest the door. This normally would trigger an opportunity attack, but that hobgoblin is surprised and therefore cannot take his reaction until the end of his turn (in the surprise round), which won't happen until Brumdal is well passed him.
"Wait!" cries Brumdal. His weapon is sheathed and with outstretched palms he cautiously, but swiftly moves into the room toward the stricken hobgoblin child. "This was a mistake! I shall heal your child!" he appeals to the throng of hostile hobgoblins that tower above him.
The hobgoblins, still dazed and confused by the sudden surprise attack, perceive the scene in slow motion: a dwarf, no doubt one of great strength and valor, but still a hated dwarf, moves through their scattered ranks. Is this dwarf so foolish to stride into the middle of their force to finish off their fallen? Or does he truly mean what he says? Their harsh and cruel beliefs struggle with the notion that anyone would be so suddenly charitable ... or foolish.
Brumdal arrives at the side of the downed hobgoblin child and the world moves slowly for him as well. He can see the young goblinoid is still alive, but barely. He reaches out a hand to touch the poor creature and divine energy begins coarse through his being, subtly channelling through his arm to his outstretched hand. Still reaching for the hobgoblin.
Brumdal has earned back Inspiration, which he can use for advantage on his next turn.

Javon darts quickly up to take Brumdal's old position inside the doorway. "Stand down!" he commands the nearest hobgoblin as he aims his ready bow at the creature, but does not fire...
The hobgoblins are no longer surprised, so they will have their reactions available to them now.
Their turn hasn't come up yet, so you don't know how they will act. From their perspective we have a noble act from Brumdal, but no one has tried to persuade them otherwise. You assume they are still hostile, but you never know.
Wow interesting debate. As I sit here awaiting my preflight OJ here's some background on how I saw the situation for Amar and Zerys. Zerys is chaotic good and I see that an alignment of absolutes, with doses of irrational thought, with a strong focus on s goal. So thus Zerys realized they are kids, hobgoblins are all evil, but the kids are no threat. Too bad if they get caught but probably better if they were gone. This line of thought became part of Zerys action. I believe I wrote "unfazed...:
Amar was easier the adults were threats kids weren't no glory or loot is to be had from them. Thus not worth the effort.
Admittedly this was my 40 something interpretation of rules about motivation / alignment in a game I mostly played as a kid.
Amar and Zerys are okay with talking down the family group. Zerys will stay quiet but ready. Amar will extend has hands nonthreateningly and turn on a calming charm.
Pagan will hold onto his comment about attacking the Blue Nose... for now. He stares intently upon the scene of the Paladin and the Hobgoblin child. He freezes in position- hand upon a dart at his belt waiting to see the outcome of this risky gambit.
Pagan stares intently upon the scene of the Paladin and the Hobgoblin child. He freezes in position---hand upon a dart at his belt waiting to see the outcome of this risky gambit.
Amar
Amar will extend his hands non-threateningly and turn on a calming charm. He says using the Goblin tongue, "let us treat your wounded."
Markas
Markas will lower his bow and look to Brumdal with a sense of relief and respect.
Zerys
Zerys stays quiet but ready.
I assume you are all using the Ready and will attack if the hobgoblins do.
Brumdal
Brumdal lays a hand on the young hobgoblins forehead, and the dying creature feels a divine kiss. The eyes flutter open meeting Brumdal's gaze for a moment.
Brumdal steps back away from the creature slowly and cautiously through the watching hobgoblins. They do not attack.
Hobgoblins
One of the injured females scoops up the healed child and heads toward the door at the far end of the room. The other two younglings head out through that door as the remaining adults turn to face you. The armored males form a wall blocking your party's access to the door. They slowly draw their longswords and snarl at you showing their sharp teeth. The femaies form a line behind them and ready longbows.
"You are brave fools," begins Blue Nose, "I treat with you now, only because you have saved the life of one of our future warriors. I offer you a choice, you can go back out that door you came from, or," and at this he sneers showing more yellowing, sharp teeth, "you may join with the others in our feast tonight..."
His hungry eyes and sharp teeth make you wonder what's on the menu....
At this point both parties are staring each other down--each side set to attack at the slightest provocation.
Markas stays non-committed, he's been in this situation before, acting by reflex without thought of the consequences. His newfound ability surprised him with its power. He's conflicted and pissed at himself for acting rashly, yet wary of the hobgoblins and the consequences of leaving them at his back. Instead of making yet another rash decision he'll bow to whichever direction the party seems to take.

Pagan keeps his eyes locked on Blue Nose. With his hand still grasping the dart at his waist he steps slowly forward- never averting his sharp Jade gaze. He stops right at the threshold of the door and holds- staring at the retreating Hobgoblin Leader. He says nothing.
On the topic of Arawn it seems that Zerys and only Zerys recognizes the God Arawn from Pagan's ramblings about 'Arawn having feasted well'... Arawn is a fey God of Death and the Underworld. You remember the stories an Elder told you of the Elves of Shadow that worshipped Death!
Javon knows more about Arawn than the average person. But Pagan doesn't trust Javon. (Yet.)
Amar brashly looks toward blue nose, "Dunno, what's on the menu for this feast. I hope the ale is tasty."
“The prisoners are what is for dinner! You would be joining them!”
Blue Nose eyes Zerys and Markus. “We have never had elf meat, I’ve heard it is delicious!” He eyes Pagan. “You we might have to roast for a long time. Maybe, we’ll kill you before the roasting begins.” His eyes again fall on Amar. “You we might need to save for later. We have plenty of your kind in stock. You can wait with them. Get to know them. You will all die together!”
And with that all the hobgoblins roar, beating their chests, daring you to battle!

Intelligence (Religion) checks for everyone to see if they know something about Arawn:
Amar (+2): 9
Brumdal (+2): 20
Javon (+0): 19
Markas (+0): 10
Zerys (+2): 15
On a 10 or better, you have basic knowledge.
On a 15 or better, you know more than the average person would.
On a 20 or better, you know quite a bit.
On a 1, you really don't know much at all, but you might think you do...
Battle Map
@Pagan, it is your turn.
And I realize that these two rounds are supposed to represent 12 seconds total, so we might be bending time a bit here.... ;)

Ah OJ!
Markas will lower his bow and look to Brumdal with a sense of relief and respect. Unless someone attacks he'll try to look non-threatening.
Amar, in hopes they understand will say using goblin, "Let us treat your wounded "

At this point both parties are staring each other down--each side set to attack at the slightest provocation.
Now what would you like to do?
Zerys would like step back a bit and look back the way we arrived. We may be ambushed, kobolds are fiendishly clever and won't fight fair.
Amar brashly looks toward blue nose, "Dunno, what's on the menu for this feast. I hope the ale is tasty."
(Depending on Javon and Pagan)
Markas stays non-committed, he's been in this situation before, acting by reflex without thought of the consequences. His newfound ability surprised him with its power. He's conflicted and pissed at himself for acting rashly, yet wary of the hobgoblins and the consequences of leaving them at his back. Assuming that the hobgoblins have all backed to the end of the room, Brumdal will back towards the rest of the group and see what shakes out.

I have made note of any change of position based on your previous messages.
Insight checks to discern the hobgoblins' motivations:
Amar (+1): 6
Brumdal (+3): 5
Javon (+2): 15
Markus (+0): 7
Pagan (+5): 7
Zerys (+6): 19
