Okay! I think it is time to engage in hand to hand combat. Brumdal will move to strike the closest hobgoblin. If successful, he will cast Thunderous Smite. And hopefully the hobgoblins will be...Thunderstruck.
Brumdal utters an incantation and closes in on the remaining hobgoblin brute.
Brumdal swings his sword smashing into the hobgoblin’s heavy armor.
Your Thunderous Smite spell is still good for 1 minute (10 rounds) so long as you keep concentrating on the spell.
Concentration
Some spells require you to maintain concentration in order to keep their magic active. If you lose concentration, such a spell ends.
If a spell must be maintained with concentration, that fact appears in its Duration entry, and the spell specifies how long you can concentrate on it. You can end concentration at any time (no action required).
Normal activity, such as moving and attacking, doesn't interfere with concentration. The following factors can break concentration:
Casting another spell that requires concentration. You lose concentration on a spell if you cast another spell that requires concentration. You can't concentrate on two spells at once.
Taking damage. Whenever you take damage while you are concentrating on a spell, you must make a Constitution saving throw to maintain your concentration. The DC equals 10 or half the damage you take, whichever number is higher. If you take damage from multiple sources, such as an arrow and a dragon's breath, you make a separate saving throw for each source of damage.
Being incapacitated or killed. You lose concentration on a spell if you are incapacitated or if you die.
The DM might also decide that certain environmental phenomena, such as a wave crashing over you while you're on a storm-tossed ship, require you to succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw to maintain concentration on a spell.
Basically that means if you take damage or cast another spell requiring concentration then the spell ends.
Pagan's Shoto misses the hobgoblin entirely as he swoops into a flanking position opposite Brumdal. His flying double kick has more of an impact! (Damage: 5)
Javon
Realizing he is worse for wear, Javon withdraws back down the corridor and then sets up a shot with his longbow.
Javon's arrow flies wildly into the roof of the cave and comes back down in pieces. (Critical Miss)
Hobgoblins
The hobgoblin eschews his whip for his longsword and turns menacingly on Pagan as the archer around the corner looses an arrow on the dragonborn as well.
Zerys rolls her eyes at the notion of "Pagan and His Adoring Fans" but clearly believes "Zery's and Her Band of Scruffy Heroes!" is clearly the winner. No Quartz required. With that though she'll rush the remaining Hobgoblin and attempt to slice him with her scimitar.
She may have other plans for any spare whips she finds laying around; Pagan will appreciate the schooling.
Nicely done!
Sweet picture!
Now we just need a name for the party, like the "Waffle Crew", "Vox Machina", "Mighty Nein", etc....
Brumdal
Brumdal's Longsword Attack: 12 Damage: 9

@Pagan, your turn!
Hobgoblins.
Hmmm well
Pagan will flank the remaining Hobgoblin that's engaged with the Paladin and strike with his Shoto. He follows this attack with a flying double kick!
Pagan thinks the group should be "Pagan and His Adoring Fans." or "Quartz, Parchment, Sheers, Lizard, Elf." (Which doubles as a fun game!)
The rules are simple: Sheers cut Parchment, Parchment covers Quartz, Quartz crushes Lizard, Lizard poisons Elf, Elf smashes Sheers, Sheers decapitates Lizard, Lizard eats Parchment, Parchment disproves Elf, Elf disintegrates Quartz, and as it always has, Quartz crushes Sheers.
Bravo!
Pagan
Shoto Attack: 9 Damage: 4
Flying Double Kick Attack: 23 Damage: 5
Javon
Attack: 18 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Hobgoblins
Longsword Attack: 7 Damage: 2
Longbow Attack: 19 Damage: 2
Because her target is within 5 feet of an ally, the hobgoblin archer uses her Martial Advantage feature to deal additional damage: 9

@Markas, you are up!
Very nice.
I'm not sure Pagan has a tail.
Well if you want to give him a tail then why not. The rules say no tail: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/races
So if Pagan has a tail that would make him unique.
(I thought he had one this whole time.)
