"A noble cause." Aurinax admits happily. "I will allow one gold piece. If you come back with Raenar and he gives me permission to let you do what you wish with the rest, I will allow it as promised by Lord Neverember."
Accepting the terms, you head back out the way you came. Makes sense. You just cant walk out with the loot. Aurinax won’t letcha. All you need to do is find Raenar, bring him with you, and have him tell Aurinax the situation. Raenar might want a small cut for his service, or might not even care. Either way, you know where the gold is, you know how to get it. What could go wrong? As you guys head back up to the entrance you notice the doors to the vault never closed, and it’s nighttime.
Zeli has a very nervous look on her face, as if, inwardly, she is sensing trouble. She gives Leon a look, but says nothing, unsure of what she’s thinking.
What’s more strange is what you see outside waiting for you.
Surrounding the tower in every direction is about 40 cultists like the ones you dealt with earlier - with heavy crossbows all aimed at the entrance and all of your heads. Among the crowd three people emerge. Raenar is one of them, along with two very powerfully looking nobles. Zeli gasps, looks around, and holds Leons arm in instictive panic.
Lord Cassalanter slowly walks up to FC. Both him and Lady Cassalanter are both extremely good looking people, Lord Cassalanter being a half elf. But there is more. They have the look of toying, accepting, and accepting the powers of Asmodeus. They both look extremely powerful and dangerous. So much so even Zeli gets nervous.
”Nicely done, Mr. Cat.” Lord Cassalanter rumbles. When he speaks its as if it’s in slow motion, his voice, an octave lower than it should be. His eyes are completely black. FC says nothing, for Lord Cassalanter can read his thoughts. “I appreciate your service to the Cult in doing our dirty work. Consider our transaction complete. You have done well, and your payment..”
He tilts his head back, way back. A chest of overflowing gold appears at your feet for you to see.. then dissapears. “..is waiting for you at your private residence.” He slowly leans towards the rest of you.

During DC's Betrayal
Somewhere in the back of Azraels' mind.. he always suspected, or knew. It had been itching at the back of his mind since the Warehouse, where he first confronted FC about what it got Azrael, to serve a Deity. He had always suspected, but since that point, FC had managed to lay low.. very low, which had kept him from tripping Azraels red flags any farther. Azraels tail patted the ground softly in frustration, and he shot FC the deadliest glare he could 17 With the bardic inspiration he'd received adding to its intensity even as he simultaneously said a prayer mentally to Bahamut..
The glare promised death, pain, fear. What he did to that one cultist after everyone else had left? that was childs-play compared to what Azrael had in store for him. Even the lords of hell would cringe if they knew the thoughts going through Azraels head.
Azrael felt a surge of divine energy course through him, his eyes glowing white, the slits brighter than a thousand suns. His finger pointed straight at FatCat. Fatcat would feel something.... but otherwise it seemed as if nothing had happened.. what had Azrael done? Only time would tell. However, after a moment, the divinity faded, his eyes returned to normal, aside from their raw rage.. And FatCat would see the most viscous grin, promising of doom cross Azraels features.
If it weren’t for Zeli holding onto him in sheer fear and panic, Leon would have attacked Fatcat right then and there. He bore holes in the back of the tieflings head, a boiling anger manifested at the pit of his stomach and as she held his arm, she would feel him shake in pure and utter rage.
He held Fatcat up with such respect for what he had for the half elf before, but now all he could think of was bashing him at the back of the head with his Bo. To keep himself (relatively) calm, his free hand held Zeli’s hand that rested on his arm. With clenched teeth he managed to speak.
”Fatcat,” It came out more like a growl than anything. “What is the meaning of this?”

"Ah ah ah." Lord Cassalanter warns Dani, waving his finger, scolding you like a little child. "Any attempts to escape will not end up in your favor, only delay the inevitable, and would indeed include the death of your friends right here. Is that what you want? Not to mention, Raenar would make sure the dragon would not protect you."

Gotta log to sleep. If Dani makes it into the vault (will roll athletics and acrobatics just in case)

her action will be:
Danitriel skidded to a stop just before Aurinax and with wild eyes exclaimed "Aurinax! 40something Asmodeus cultists just rolled up to claim the gold! They have Raenar - I think he's mind controlled! Please, help us!"
even as he simultaneously said a prayer mentally to Bahamut..

She didn't make her WIS save. The nat1 has, unfortunately, provided me with something for her in the meantime.
Dani, as you turn in your urgency, you trip and fall and faceplant into the ground. The cultists take aim and prepare to fire on your friends should you act hastily again.
Zeli agrees. "This.." she whispers, sadly, "..is a trap."
She gives FC a cold stare, but doesn't make any hostile movements.
The cultists all approach you slowly, getting closer in range with their heavy weaponry. Lady Cassalanter waves her hand, Dani gets tossed aside and the Vault door behind you all slams shut. "There is nowhere now to run."she says, her voice sounding cold, evil, demonic. "We invite you all to join us. As..guests. In our home. We would be honored..if you would join us."
"An excellent idea, darling." Lord Cassalanter says sweetly. "Mr. Cat has provided us with what we seek. We should now..entertain..our new friends with our..gracious..hospitality."
“Do we even have a choice?” Leon laughed dryly, his eyes never once leaving the back of Fatcats head. The fact that he didn’t even turn around to look at them...
”******* coward.” He hisses in his elvish tongue.

Not sure why the dice rollers are sometimes working and sometimes not...but my Insight roll was a nat 20, and my Investigation ended up being a 21.
Your nat20 reveals that, unfortunately, this is very real. FC has sold you all out. The cultists that have you surrounded are indeed dressed the same as those you had encountered in the old tower last week, and the Cassalanters look like they are evil made flesh. They could easily overpower you all, and making any rash or violent moves would prove fatal.

Occassional Dungeon Master.
From what your gut instincts tell you, Dani, Raenar does NOT appear to look coerced.
Danitriel let out a string of swearwords in elvish and then attempted to leap back into the vault, hoping to warn Aurinax about the cultists.
