*tell me about it, I work at a baseball field and the team just so happened to make the championship, our last game was today and I have to be at work by 7 am for a plated catering event, just got home at 10:30 pm, was in at 9 am. Get this right, I started at this job in 2014, as a dishwasher, no real kitchen experience but I'm reliable and dedicated unfortunately. Two years later I'm to be promoted to prep cook at the start of the baseball season, but the dude that was hired to be one of our leads just never shows. And guess ******* what? And guess who the **** had to shoulder all of his ******* responsibilities until a new executive chef is hired. Me. That's ******* who. Those responsibilities on top of personally leading one of two branches in the kitchen, half of our entire crew also works at other stadiums that kicked back into gear last week, so we lost them, and all the god damn stewards/dishwashers he hired are all in high school so they had to go back to school at the same time half of our crew went to the other stadiums who pay better.
But it's over now. And all I have to worry about is the rest of the month full of catering events, which ain't bad. Our Director said we would have a new executive chef sometime in October. Nothing exploded. No one died. No major hiccups.

Before all this falls into place, Bartimaeus holds the morning star out, offering to anyone. Pockets the copper, what's 17 copper between friends?
Checking the roofs, ceilings and walls for those Ieaks and holes with temporary patches. A storm is coming and I don't want to come back home and see my place flooded while I'm away.
Barxik takes the offered Morningstar and stows it on his side.
"My deepest gratitudes but I hope we won't be needing this."
The tiefling then moves his best as he sneaks towards their destination but with difficulty due to his armor.
In case I can't post on time due to weather, here's a roll.

Kyu, still coming out of a fog from the poisoning, hears the clanking tiefling starting to make his way closer to the dragon. A terrible foreboding comes over him and he calls out quietly to the group, "I don't want you to die... If you want to save this town, we may need to find another way to get the information we need. I don't know you all well, and have never been treated with the care I have been shown here. The one thing I do know is that this dragon is a monster and with his followers having 400 some eyeballs and ears (someone is going to detect us) and I don't want you to die. Let's escape today and find another solution. Are you with me? I will stay with you if this is what I must do. Rotleaf, your life is worth more than a distraction, we must stay together to escape this situation."
I turn my keen eye to the scene to see if there are any details about the scene that seems odd or would warrant further investigation (like something that we could do something about, without the ability to defeat a dragon and hundreds of his followers). Perception: 13
Bartimaeus stops in his tracks hearing the words, turns 180, and begins walking in the direction of the mayors manor. "This way, sense-talker, Bartimaeus will take us to see mayor"

The sky is churning grey and black, and the kobolds are in a fervor around the shadow dragon..
Barxik, Emeny, and Nox combine their skills and magically produce a treasure pile with ease. It looks so real. All of you glance at it before making your moves.
Vappa has retreated into the brush and is watching the rest of the party and the surrounding area.
Kyu has persuaded Bartimaeus to head back towards town and they are going to look for the Mayor.
Ironwall is waiting by the treeline hoping to get to the fissure. After the illusion is cast Barxik, Emeny, and Nox meet with Ironwall.
Rotleaf would love nothing more than to rush in and slay as many Kobolds as possible, but his better judgement overpowers his bloodlust. He joins Kyu and Bartimaeus in their trek towards the mayor's home, on the other side of Bittborg, a tall tower is still strangely illuminated there. Stealth roll 18 He also uses survival skills to track any other humanoids about 20
Anybody looking at the enemies suddenly loses sight of the dragon! It is as if it simply faded into the dark and shadows and vanished. The kobolds all start murmuring amongst themselves, yipping, shouting, and then all at once they start rushing towards the treasure pile! Some of them are kicking and biting each other to get there faster. Some of you are a bit taken aback as you see several of the kobolds jump into flight above the others! Some can fly it seems..
They show zero interest in whatever is happening in all of your directions. In about 30 seconds to a minute some will arrive near the illusion....
All of the players waiting to go to the fissure hear a small familiar voice in their minds as Rotleaf tries to sneak with Kyu and Bartimaeus....: "Kyu and Bart want to go back in to town so I'm accompanying them. I suggest you all either join us or take the chance to rush to the fissure until we can meet again."
His voice fades away and you are all left to make a decision...
That is up to each player as to splitting the party.
Bartimaeus's passive perception is 14, so I believe he would've heard the commotion among the Kobolds, turned to look, eyes go wide, grabs Kyu and Rotleafs shoulders and pulls them into some type of cover to break potential line of sight, probably an alley, and ushers them to move with a bit more haste towards the mayors' manor.

As I look at the dark spot in the earth, I am taken by a desire to run to the edge and peer in at whatever abyss or labyrinth lies below. I have questioned the nature of the entity I serve for years and received no answers, yet somehow in this plane without stars I feel closer to it than I ever remember being. Whatever this night is, the hole is at the center of it and I know I will find what I seek down there. I am prepared to throw aside common sense and start running, but I maintain my sanity and turn to Nox and Barxik.
"We should head back to Bittborg and meet up with Kyu and Bartimaeus. I hate to waste this chance but we need to stick together. We may be the only ones left."
My last sentence strikes me in the stomach as soon as I voice it. I consider the implications of what has happened, and think back to the scrolls and apocrypha I read. Could this be a sign of the end times, or is it just a magical trick?

OoC: So, as a player I kind of want to go down now without the rest of the party. Yeah, I get excited by dungeon exploration, but also having the party separated and trying to locate each other in hostile territory 50 ft below the surface could make for some really good tension depending on how Rotleaf intends to run this. If the rest of you are up for it we should totally go now. I can have Emeny get roped in against her best judgement.

Vappa quietly hisses to himself as some of the group has decided to head back to town. Fruitless. The town is deserted. Or was that not clear enough by the rampaging ogre? He sighs, staying out of sight and still peering towards the fissure, slowly crawling his way to it.
So we need a stealth roll? If so, is it with advantage?
Also, are we splitting the party...?
The kobolds are currently distracted, they are fighting amongst one another over the pile of treasure, none of them have gotten to it yet because they are all stopping each other and clawing over one another in the chaos caused by the illusion. They are ravenous for treasure, and not paying attention to you, so you don't need to roll one really. You always CAN roll one to continue sneaking. Everybody can do as they please.
Emeny: You're religious knowledge on kobolds brings up some memories of an old script written in Draconic...
"Kobold legends say that Dakarnok was once a powerful warrior-chief who united vast numbers of kobolds from many different tribes to form a huge kobold empire. He led them in successful wars against the humans, demihumans, and humanoids in the vicinity, especially bringing considerable death and destruction upon the hapless gnome settlements which had the misfortune of being in his path. It is said that Dakarnok gained godhood through the use of certain magical devices; whatever the means, upon his death his people continued to revere him. Dakarnok is usually depicted as an unusually muscular kobold with silver-black scales and tiny red eyes."
You're getting the feeling that this all may have to do with an ancient dead kobold turned deity. It may not be the end times, but it is certainly dangerous and powerful dark magic.
Vappa is easily sneaking over towards the fissure. Emeny is unsure of what to do.
Rotleaf is stealthing ahead of Kyu and Bartimaeus to be as safe as possible while exploring the town and heading to the mayor's.
Ironwall, Nox, Barxik: Will you proceed to the fissure or head to join the others back in town?
At this point, some of the kobolds have reached the pile of "treasure"... They are tumbling over each other and fall straight to the hard ground as they jump into the illusionary gold.
"KREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YIP YIP YIP!!!!!!!"
Battlecries and barks roar out everywhere....
Bartimaeus and Vappa hear some unsettling whispers in the air, as if some ancient and decrepit old reptilian voice is speaking to them from above..... (I will be sending you two the dialogue via PM)

Ironwall:
I am momentarily stunned at the sight of my companions fleeing back into town. "And my tribe teases me for my impulsivity and carelessness," I mutter. "I recently put a fire out with a barrel of filthy oil and tried to pick apples by throwing axes at them. This, though, is ridiculous."
Decision making is not my strong suit and the pressure is on to commit to the plan or to flee with the others. I have already let too much time slip away. So I perhaps make the stupidest decision I have made yet.
"You have my ax and shield if you are heading for the fissure." I bolt under the cover of trees towards the fissure as silently and quickly as I can.
