Balasar nods thoughtfully. Do you know why Thaan was where he was when he was attacked? Why he had gone to that location, why he had picked that time, or what his intended purpose was? Was it customary or out of the ordinary for him to be there at that time?
Damos shakes his head, "Not usual for anyone to be in the rooms around meal time unless they're sick. Certainly not in someone else's room. Can't say why he was there, other than that I know he seemed bothered around that time and had taken to sparring with Rajan more than usual. But chances are good that he'd little desire to be observed getting there. That's my best guess for 'why then?'"
Which makes it doubly suspicious that that is where the assassin attacked, Balasar muses. Do you know anything about what was bothering him, or how long it had been bothering him?
Damos shrugs, "A few months after I'd gotten here, maybe? I'm not sure of the exact timeframe. As to the subject... I couldn't say. I'm sorry sir, that's all I have."
He glances at Soh, who seems lost in thought as he scans the horizon, before coming back to the present moment, "Hmm yes, well... Lieutenant, thank you for your time. I think we'd best be back to the manor proper for the moment. I'm sure you have other duties to attend to."
Soh starts walking back towards the house.
As he turns, Damos quickly steps forward and shakes Balasar's hand while saying, "Have a pleasant evening, Master Balasar. Pleasure meeting you."
Balasar feels something papery pushed into his hand as the soldier makes contact.
Soh shakes his head, "By all means, walk me to my chambers, else your father elects to flay me for my lack of self preservation. After that though, feel free to go where you will. It is good to have you home."
After walking Soh back to his room, the party can go where they wish.
Did Soh provide any information about the Majordomo?
The Majordomo is in fact known to Balasar already.
Clarence Clearwater has served the family since before Balasar wars born.
Balasar always found him a touch stern and obsessed with "running a tight ship". Looking back on it, he had a habit of using an awful lot of nautical terms in every day life. His father has alluded to serving with Clarence during the defense of High Hills, though he did not specify in what capacity.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After seeing Soh safely back in his quarters, Balasar will make a perception check to see who is around. If he sees nobody aside from the party members, he will discreetly read the note that was passed to him.

Balasar sees no one around the party. The note reads "Ware Rajan"
Balasar proposes that the party speak to the kitchen staff next, though he is open to suggestions if anyone would like to propose a different starting point.
Lisette agrees with her characteristic amiableness, though tinged with a hint of a... sharper emotion - something reminiscent of a hound scenting after its prey.
[OOC: is Fergus (or anyone else on staff) known to Lisette?]
As Balasar approaches, he overhears one of the men saying, "...keep covering for you. You need to pull it together or the lord's going to complain. No more... experiments. Last thing any of the family needs is whatever... this is. It ain't just your arse if something like this finds its way to their table."
As he comes into view of the kitchen, he sees a large and rotund man who he recognizes as Fergus. His face is flushed with anger, "Now look here, Rufus... the Lord respects my art, he always has. It's time to at least let him try it."
Rufus scowls, "The Lord respects what you make with FOOD, you old fool. This isn't fit for- oh! Master Balasar. Er-w-welcome home sir," Fergus's assistant quickly bows low.
Lisette moves quietly past the group and over to the speaker. Addressing him in a low but friendly tone, she enquires, "You are progressing well, I trust, good Rufus? No return of fever?" As she speaks, she never stops moving, swiftly placing the back of one pale hand on his forehead and then both hands on his cheeks.

Damos shakes his head, "I don't think so sir, only..."
He looks uncomfortable, "I know he and Lord Kriv were not on great terms towards the end. He usually left his debriefings with a bit of a temper."
How long had this been going on? And do you know anything about the subject of their disagreement?
Damos shrugs, "A few months after I'd gotten here, maybe? I'm not sure of the exact timeframe. As to the subject... I couldn't say. I'm sorry sir, that's all I have."

Where would the party like to go from here?
Likewise, Balasar replies. It does me good to know that men of your caliber are ready at hand.
Balasar gives no reaction to receiving the papery object, and discreetly pockets it at the first opportunity.
Uncle, shall we join you in your chambers for further discussion? Or would you prefer some solitude for the time being?
Soh shakes his head, "By all means, walk me to my chambers, else your father elects to flay me for my lack of self preservation. After that though, feel free to go where you will. It is good to have you home."

On the way back, Soh does his best to give Balasar the names of all the staff and their locations.
Kitchen/ Pantry:
Fergus the Chef
Four Assistants - Tansy, Archibald, Rufus, and Fiona
Estate Grounds:
William the Keeper
Main House:
12 servants (Soh didn't even try to recall their names)

Corporal Sard
Corporal Jo

[Fergus is known to Balasar, but not very well. You were more acquainted with his products than the man himself.]

Gong sticks with the party.
Having heard no objections or alternative proposals, Balasar leads the party to the kitchens in search of Fergus (and perhaps a snack).
