the goal is for at least one post a day, I understand if people miss here or there. But prolonged absence will result in a “recasting” there also might be chances for special guest appearances. So even if you don’t make the final selection I might ask if you want to join for a one off later on.
I'm interested too, but as a level 8, we will need a bit better gear than starter gear. How much budget would we have to equip ourselves (aside from the free Rare + Uncommon)?
Excellent questions! I knew I would forget something. I’m fine with point buy, standard array, or rolls. But if you chose rolls you have to take it. With the exception if you do not have a skill that’s at least 15 you can chose one skill and make it a 15. The. Either ASI or Feats up until then.
You can be for sure start off with better equipment being level 8. I don’t have a list of approved items or funding amount. For now let’s get the character concepts down and then we can work together for the “upgrades”
Backstory: Raina learned her trade on the hard streets of Waterdeep. She was famed for getting her mark as efficiently as possible. One day she followed her mark down the wrong alleyway and wound up in Sigil, gateway city to the multiverse. Name/Class: Pell Covenwing/Grave Domain Cleric
Race: Human (Variant)
Background: Acolyte
Backstory: A young healthy human that is triply cursed to be avoided as he's a priest of Kelemvor, God of Death, Socially awkward (wants to fit in, tries too hard) and has pale emaciated face and hands that make him look sickly.
Backstory: (Short version) Luc grew up in a poor farming village on the outskirts of the capital. He grew up to be a strong and healthy young man, with an uncanny knack for always getting people to like him, and persuading them to do what he asked. He never showed any signs of magical power growing up and no formal education other than the “school of hard knocks”. While he was tending the fields a sinkhole opened up without warning, and Luc plummeted 20 feet to the bottom of a narrow hole. He landed in a curious pool of what he assumed was water. (Spoiler: It wasn't) Something inside him was ignited, the small spark that had laid dormant burned brightly, and unlocked his latent power.

Bonds

Flaws

Full Backstory:
Luc grew up in a poor farming village on the outskirts of the capital city. His family was poor, but happy, and Luc learned to work the land with his father. He grew up to be a strong and healthy young man, with an uncanny knack for always getting people to like him, and persuading them to do what he asked. He never showed any signs of magical power growing up and he had no formal education other than the “school of hard knocks”.
Although the ladies often threw themselves at Luc, and he had taken more than a few lovers, the urge to settle down and get married never struck him. Luc was content to spend his life helping on the family farm, and going into town to the local tavern. When he was 25 years old, Luc’s life changed forever. While he was tending the field one bright spring morning, a sinkhole opened up without warning, and Luc plummeted 20 feet to the bottom of a narrow hole. He landed in a curious pool of what he assumed was water. The fall knocked the wind out of him, and he was starting to drown in the “water”. Something inside him was ignited, the small spark that had laid dormant for a quarter century, burned brightly, and unlocked his latent power. He managed to roll into a crouching position, and getting his head above the surface of the water began coughing and sputtering up water from his lungs. The pool began to swirl around him faster and faster as it rose up around him forming into a swirling column of liquid. When it finally crashed down onto him, Luc covered his head, waiting to start drowning again. The force of the tide hitting him made Luc pass out, and he floated for a time in his mind sensing nothing but blackness and cold. Then a bright light shone through the darkness, and Luc awoke with a start.
He was still at the bottom of the sinkhole, but the pool was gone. What he did find was a bright blue crystal lying on the ground next to him. He hesitated for a moment, then reached out to pick it up. As soon as his hand closed around the crystal a rush of power exploded out of him. The surge of power pushed him up and out of the hole, throwing him 50 feet away. It also resulted in the narrow 20-foot deep sinkhole widening into a 30-foot wide crater, at least 40 feet deep.
The rumors of Luc’s experience, and the proof of the newly formed crater, quickly reached the crown, and not knowing exactly what they had found, the authorities decided to recruit Luc into service. Luc was trained by the royal wizards of the realm which was not easy since his power was completely unpredictable at first. For 4 years he was trained on how to harness and control his innate magical abilities. He was also schooled in the subtle art of subterfuge harnessing his natural charm, and persuasive tendencies.
Luc’s first official assignment was to go south and work undercover to infiltrate a rival kingdom. For 3 years he got to know the ins and outs of the government, who the major players were, and fed information back to his own realm. Recently, Luc was called back to the north to join a new secret group that had just formed using his magical powers and his persuasive techniques to help safeguard the kingdom from all enemies no matter where they might be.
Feature: Criminal Contact - You have a reliable and trustworthy contact who acts as your liaison to a network of other criminals. You know how to get messages to and from your contact, even over great distances; specifically, you know the local messengers, corrupt caravan masters, and seedy sailors who can deliver messages for you.
Class: Hexblade Warlock (with Eyes of the Rune Keeper invocation - reading every language seems pretty useful for a character in this secret agency!)
Background: Urchin
Backstory:
Ahriman hails from in the Field Ward of Waterdeep and got by stealing food and minor trinkets from Waterdeep's nobility. The proximity of the Field Ward to the North and Sea Wards (where the nobility lives), made it a tempting base of operations for an upstart thieves ring. Ahriman, far from a professional thief, thought that they would leave him alone if he kept to himself. He was wrong, the criminal group put pressure on the pick-pocketing poor to give them a piece of the wealth they stole, not caring that most of what they stole was food and other necessities.
The criminals began to make examples of those who couldn't pay their dues. The local authorities were looking the other way, mostly at the coin being dropped into their pockets. Desperate to find a way to pay his due, Ahriman pushed further and further into the wealthy wards. One night he broke into a curio shop, sure he would find some trinket or bauble of value. He was drawn to a small, locked chest in a back room. Inside was the broken shard of a blade, its hilt wrapped in worn leather. He felt compelled to reach for it, to wrap his hand around the grip, to run its jagged edge across the throats of those who oppressed him.
It was when he touched it that he heard the voice, soft and steady, offering him the power to stand up to those who stood on him. He took the blade and the next day, he gave the collectors' their cut. He didn't stop there. Using his newly found power and years honed skills in stealth and burglary, he stole into the homes of the newly formed crime ring, and gave them their cut as well. Even the captain of the local guard wasn't spared from Ahriman's vengeance, an act he is now wanted for.
The message was sent, and the remnants of the ring stayed away from Ahriman and his friends. Ahriman uses his eldritch power to keep himself hidden from the authorities. Most often he assumes the identity of Quinn Miller, a middle-aged human male with weathered features and graying hair.
Occasionally, the voice of the blade calls out to him with tasks to complete. One such task took him on a weeks long trip into the mountainous north. He hiked for days through the wilderness before coming to a small pile of stones. The voice instructed him to arrange these stones into a geometric pattern and speak a word from a strange tongue. Seemingly nothing happened, but the voice was pleased just the same.
Another task had him steal a jeweled broach from a noble woman and deliver it to another. A week later the town rumor mill was buzzing with the story of prominent member of nobility embroiled in an affair with his political rival’s wife.
The voice has even tasked him with taking life. This is an uncommon ask and he is always assured that the life he takes is deserving of such a fate – that the throat he cuts is poised to cut the throats of others. Ahriman believes that there is something more behind the blade, some larger agenda that isn't yet clear, but it gave him to the power to free himself and so he is compelled to obey.
This sounds interesting. Would a high elf combat monk fit in? How are you doing the ability scores?
Name: Elon Andael
Race: high elf
Class: combat monk
Backstory: The monks never spoke about his parents and Elom has very little memory of them since he had been at the monistary for most of his life. All he knew was that both of his parents were elf. Elom trained hard with the monks. Very dedicated to there god Torm and his studies of Way of the Open Hand. He showed skill and dexterity beyond most. Elom quickly became a favorite of Master Chan. In his early teen years he was sparring with Master Chan when he was knocked to the ground and his short sword landed a few feet from him. Just as Master was about to declare himself victor, Elom reached for his sword and it mysteriously leaped into his hand. Everyone was stunned. No one knew what to think. That’s when Master Chan told Elom about his parents. “Your parents” he told him, “were high elves from the fey. They found themselves on the wrong side of a political upheaval so they left the fey. To keep you safe” he continues “ they brought you here. But this is all we know.” Elom continued his studies and developing his innate telekinesis abilities till he reaches his 20’s when he decided he had to find out what happened to his parents. So Elom left the monistary and is now traveling the world in search of his parents.

Name/Class : Leyola, Assassin 8
Background: criminal/spy
Race: Eladrin ( under Elf varient )
Backstory:
He was a spy for Waterdeep. He was to infiltrate the criminal organizations and be a mole. For years he did this and became good at it, though through it he did have to do some underhandedness to maintain his cover. Playing both sides of the coin is a very dangerous thing, specially when you start to develop a reputation of doing your job to efficiently. The bigger the reputation in the criminal organizations, the more they look at you. Yet as his job as a mole or spy on this story, he was also doing a very good job.
Then it happened, the worst thing that he could have done. He fell in love with a young elven lass in the criminal organization that he was with this time. Not sure how it came to be but he was head over heels for her. She in turn wanted to learn from him and in doing so, he became more criminal than spy. He needed to get out and he wanted to bring her with him. After some time and convincing he got her to agree to leave with him and start a new life, in a new city.
He decided if he was leaving, he would leave but give information for the criminals to be captured and taken in. He met with his contact and told him it was too hot and that he was moving. Baulder's Gate to start with, perhaps live a good life, get married. As the contact left, she was not standing but a few feet away, she had heard everything. She gave a look, turned and walked away and turned a corner. He tried following her but she had disappeared. He looked for her but to no avail and so he left Waterdeep to Balder's Gate.
It was about to days after his arrival that he got news. The criminals new the law was coming and prepared traps and ambushes. Once the dust was settled, she was found. She was found to have been tortured in several ways by her wounds and eventually died from them. Yes, he was angry and sad for a long time but that also have him a sense of purpose. Once again he wanted to bring in the bad and protect as many as possible, his life must have meaning.

Name/Class : Charlane "Laney" Von Stormbringer / Sorcerer8
Background: noble
Race: Half-Elf
Backstory: Laney is the matriarch of the Stormbringer family. They have a long lineage of draconic bloodlines that they say leads back to Tiamat. Each member of the Stormbringer family isn't inherently evil, but they do have a certain way of getting what they want. Lately, Charlane had grown bored with her role as head of the a family and has recently vacated her throne to her grandson, Charles. She thought the responsibility would end his silly thirst of endless power. Charlane now looks to set out and make herself useful once again across the realms.
She is old, even for a half-elf and she looks it. She is short and hunched with slate grey hair and uses her quarterstaff to walk. She isn't as bloodthirsty as some in her family, but she wont be taken advantage of either.
Guise was born to the daughter of a town mayor and a doppelganger. His father used his power to worm his way into the town and its power structures, and used and abused the people of this town for his own benefit. When the truth started to come out, Guise's father skipped out and has never been seen again. Guise's mother, bitter at the shame she had to endure, because of her indiscretion with Guise's father, raised Guise to be a better man. "Guise, you don't use your power like your father did. Be better than him, protect the weak, don't take advantage of them."
Guise dedicated his life to protecting the week from those that would prey upon them. Using his power he infiltrated the elite of a city run by a tyrant. He had planned to hopefully find some way to expose the ruler or possible assassinate him. This was how the Organisation found Guise. They had been tasked to remove this tyrant, who was much more than he seemed.
Guise was temporarily recruited to help with the mission. After the mission was successfully concluded, Guise was offered a permanent position with the Organisation. Guise has been there ever since. Guise has had magical training to give him more options when out in the field. His speciality being infiltration and illusions.
Backstory: Ostron was once part of a group called The Black Banners, a notorious group of mercenaries and pirates who would go to any lengths to see a job done. Eventually, Ostran began to see the things they were doing in a different light. It was an awakening for him. The cruelty they visited on others was something he couldn't stomach anymore. However, his shift in morality was sensed by his crew mates. They beat him to within an inch of his life, threw him into a barrel, and then tossed the barrel overboard! Ostran, miraculously, survived the encounter. He was found and taken in by a farming family. They were so kind to him when they had no cause to be. He wanted to be better. He wanted to protect them and protect the world that fed them. That's when Ostran signed up with this Organization. He'd do his best to eliminate any threat to those who were so kind to him.
I’m totally interested in joining, but as I’m currently at work I can’t post the character I’d like to use. Im going to edit this post as soon as I get on break! (If I post too late and you’ve already chosen characters that’s no problem!)
Alexandria was raised only by her mother in a witches cabin deep within the woods. Her mother, one of the most feared sorcerers (to those who dare trespass in her lands), taught her as soon as she was able to learn. As she grew she showed such great potential, but her mother wanted her to be better. Nothing was ever enough for her. So once Alexandria was able to go off on her own, she did, her mother standing by without protest. They didn't leave on a bad foot, but before she left her mother told her that she would never be as good as she was. Now, she's using what she knows and what she is learning, to go back and beat her mother at her own game... Eventually.
During her adventures she grew a reputation, and not a very good one at that (being alone without parental supervision can do a lot to ya!). She assumed that due to it she had caught the attention of a certain organization that extended an offer to her that she personally could not refuse.

Name / Class: Gedyr a Lhuig / Bladesinger
Race: High Elf
Background: Lost Noble of Myth Drannor
Backstory: Gedyr and his once noble family spent there time with no home and as nomads once Myth Drannor was destroyed. He spent his time training as a warrior and seeking vengeance on any enemy of the Elvin people. He is currently traveling looking for his lost brother who went missing years ago fighting the Drow. Gedyr is relatively snobish to non-elves and the short lived races, and actively dislikes Orcs and Goblinoids. He has a special hatred for Drow and Fiends. Gedyr was trained as an Elven warrior and mage and skilled as a Bladesinger. He can be found sipping fine elvish wine and making witty comments on how sad it must be to be a human and to get old and die before you become interesting. In the end he is loyal to friends and good hearted....despite some idiosyncrasies.

Name: Norder
Race: Hobgoblin
Class: Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline)
Background: Cloistered Scholar
Backstory: Norder's legion was camped near a ruined library for a substantial amount of time. Norder and a few of his fellows went to explore the depths of this ruin, where they found books detailing arcane theory. Norder, longing to rise to the top of his legion, decided to make up for his lack of martial prowess with magical might. Amongst these texts were scripts written in draconic, which Norder took with him to study in depth. After three years, Norder was able to decipher the texts fully. What he found was a ritual that could grant someone the strength of a dragon. Leaving his legion behind, Norder sought out the components of this ritual. Once he had gathered them all together, he was able to perform the ritual successfully, with some side effects. The entire right side of his torso and half of his right arm is covered in blue dragon scales, which are gradually spreading over his body. Since then, he's been travelling the world, looking for two things: the ability to reduce, halt, or reverse the effects of his transformation, and to rejoin his legion. He is currently working with this group of "Portal Jumpers" to find greater powers that he can use to retake his legion.
He can regularly be found poring over tomes and scrolls that he thinks might have a clue to help stop the scales from taking over his body.

Name: Elon Andael

Background: noble
Race: Half-Elf
Backstory: Laney is the matriarch of the Stormbringer family. They have a long lineage of draconic bloodlines that they say leads back to Tiamat. Lately, Charlane had grown bored with her role as head of the a family and has recently vacated her throne to her grandson, Charles. She thought the responsibility would end his silly thirst of endless power. Charlane now looks to set out and make herself useful once again across the realms.

I’m totally interested in joining, but as I’m currently at work I can’t post the character I’d like to use. Im going to edit this post as soon as I get on break! (If I post too late and you’ve already chosen characters that’s no problem!)
Here we go!
Name/Class: Alexandria "Raven" Belladonna / Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline)
Race: Variant Human
Background: Spy / Criminal
Backstory:
