While Ahramin and Pell inspect the posters, Luc slowly works his way down the main street (still on horseback), looking particularly in the shadows for signs of any people skulking about who they might be able to talk to.
Ostran will go along with Luc while riding along on Ares to help look around as well. "Awfully quiet around these parts to just have a few people missing, dontcha think?"
Not seeing anything else of interest along the main street, Luc turns to Ostran. "I guess we may as well head back to the others. Maybe they have had better luck finding some clues." He turns his steed around and heads back to the board with the posters to meet up with Ahramin and Pell. "Find out anything useful?" he calls to them when he is close enough.
Pell looks to Luc and shakes his head, "Board is asking the same questions we are. At least we have drawings and names of the missing people. 'Father Barnard at the chapel' wants the same information we do. Either we go see the father, or we start knocking on some doors."
you make your way to an old chapel. It’s white plain walls are accented by a stained glass window on top depicting a dragon head profile. Once inside the chapel smells of old books. There are a few pews facing a podium with a common sitting area in the back. Around a corner a bronze Dragonborn comes out to greet you.
Ears pinned up, old graying hair coming off his chin with plain white ropes with blue and silver lined cuffs and collar.
“Hello friendss, Bahamut shiness upon the jusst. How can thiss Dragonborn help you?”
He reaches out to you to shake your hands, but not really he uses both hands to place on each Of yours while greeting you all.
Pell, having no proper sense of personal space will move in close to Father Bernard and put his hands on both upper arms - like a father holding an overactive son to be able to get the son's attention - and while giving the occasional slap on one or the other arm, will say, "Hey a man of the faith like me. Kelemvor says 'Hi!'. How's old Bahamut treating you?" Seeing the others frown at his words, Pell will get to the point, "Sorry, no time to talk clergy business it seems. What do you know about the missing people drawn on the job board out there?" Pell points 'out there' by turning the Father Bernard to face that way.
Bernard begins to shake his head while holding the embrace from Pell before turning away talking to all of you.
“Terrible buissnesss that be. It seemss like The godss have turned their eye away from uss for our transsgressionss..... You must be the saviorss I prayed for. Yess, strong adventurerss like you. There iss something I haven’t told the people, don’t want to cause panic. Strong demonic presencce with each disappearancess. Cult markings, sulfur, burnt sigils on the ground. I fear what evil iss upon uss.”
Pell is taken aback, takes a step giving Bernard a reprieve and asks, "What transgressions? And have these markings always been in the same place, or have there been several all over?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ostran approaches astride Ares, next to Luc, as the others begin to greet this priest. Now normally, Ostran would be far more accommodating and personable, but this guy has a lisp. If there's one thing Ostran doesn't trust, it's a guy with a lisp. He'll size up the priest, this Father Bernard, narrowing his gaze upon the figure. He wants to know if there's any sign of lies or aggression behind those extra S's.
Ahramin is also interested in a description of the markings and adds, "Which missing person was the most recent? Could you introduce us to their family so we can ask thema few questions?"
Ostran realizes that the lisp the lisp comes from the Dragonborn not really having “lips” and is unavoidable in his speech, but is unable to determine any signs on lies.
“Claricce Thumboone was the last to go. No family to speak of First it was the beggars. Now it seems that single people with no ties are being taken. The symbols are usually in a dark alley but fade over time. Abysssal I think it is. She wass last sseen at the Comfy Corner inn. She was a bar maid and had a room there too.”
Luc listens to the interrogations and the answers from Bernard before adding to the conversation. "Once we are questioning Bernard, I suggest we take a look at the scene of the last disappearance, the Comfy Corner. We will likely need accommodations as well, so that would be a good place to start."Then with a wink to Ari he adds, "I'm sure there will be ample wares to imbibe while we are there as well."
As both of you look over the sketch. You know that it must have some sort of purpose, but right now it is unclear. Maybe it’s the positioning or order, but right now it’s gibberish. (Arcana checks)
Pell will go look at the posters to find a name or directions for a village elder or magistrate.

Edit: But apparently Ostran's not a very good judge of character.

Ari gives Luc a wide grin and nods his head.
"Bernard, could you draw one of the symbols for us? If you remember...the one left at the Comfy Corner maybe..."
Luc takes a look at the etching trying to make sense of it... Investigation (or Religion) Check: 1
