Lae backs up slowly and whispers.. "Let's get back inside and shore this place up for the night... We'll be able to handle them in the morning if they're still there... I"ll spend some time with the staff and see if it will allow us to control the creatures...:"
(Where do you want to barricade yourselves or how do you want to do that? What are you doing to investigate the staff?)
Whichever room has the least amount of entrances, looking for one with one or two doors max. Lae will push any furniture in front of the doors to secure them.
Is the staff something Lae can attune to? Do I need to make an arcana check?
(I think we should go into a room with a sturdy door and no other exits, but I'm not sure what the best room would be for that. I think Lae plans to spend an hour with the item to ascertain it's features, it's in the DMG in the magic item section, but I don't have a page #)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
-We are all just one failed saving throw away from someone else's fantasy...
(It looks like the best rooms are either the master bedroom, one of the two smaller bedrooms, or the printing press room. With a party of 4, obviously, the master would have the most space. Rob is right, spending an hour with the item will let you learn the item's properties, as well as how to use them. Dmg p. 136)
(Let's go to the Master Bedroom then, makes the most sense.)
(Sounds good)
When the party shuffles in Lae will push the wardrobe, or dresser behind the door. Then unroll his bedroll in one of the corners of the room. He’ll sift through his belongings and pull out some jerky.
I “I’ve got some pies left if anyone wants one..” he says as he chews some jerky and begins to look over the staff.
After an hour, this is what you learn about the staff:
It is a spongy, black length of wood that looks similar to that of the more wooden of the plant creatures. Its evil makes beasts uncomfortable within 30' of it. The staff has 10 charges and regains 1d6+4 of its charges daily at dusk.
If it is broken or burned to ashes, its wood releases a terrible, inhuman scream that can be heard to a range of 300'. All blights that hear the scream wither and die.
Vampiric Strike. The staff can be wielded as a magic quarterstaff. On a hit, it deals damage as a normal quarterstaff, and you can expend 1 charge to regain a number of hit points equal to the damage dealt by the weapon. Each time a charge is spent, red blood oozes from the staff's pores, and you must succeed on a DC 12 WIS saving throw or be afflicted with short-term madness.
Blight Bane. While you are attuned to the staff, blights and other evil plant creatures don't regard you as hostile unless you harm them.
After an Lae clears his throat and stands up from his bedroll.
“Are you all still awake? I’ve learnt what I could about the staff. It is a magical weapon that seems to absorb life energies from its target and restore health to the wielder. It doesn’t have control over the blights persay, but they will not be hostile to the wielder. We could burn it... and it would destroy and blights close to us.. but it could be useful to us against other terrors in this place. I think we can come up with another plan to get rid of the blights... perhaps I enter their ranks with the staff and dose them with an accelerant then Necros unleashes his flames on them.. once I safely move away of course.”
"Oh no, they didn't turn back into plants. We may have to deal with them."

(OOC it is called the Gulthias Staff)

"Yay! Fire!" Necros replies.
"I don't know, it sounds evil. Taking life from someone else to fuel your own? Necromancy. I vote to burn it, get rid of the blights that way."

"It's only evil in the wrong hands Zander. If it is used to combat evil, then it is taking life from evil to help those who are good."
"That's a logical way to think of it. Ok then."

“If my plan does fail... we can always burn it,” Lae adds.
”I’m going to hit the bed roll now if you don’t mind.. long day and tomorrow’s looking like it won’t be much different.”
"Agreed. Let's sleep and enact your plan tomorrow."

(Any watches or do you feel tired/secure enough?)
(I think we can forgo watches and rely on the furniture)
Zander will watch for about an hour until he falls asleep.

Sorry but Lae was a bit beat up lol
