A Curse of Strahds [IC]

Lae shrugs and starts to heads towards the marble staircase. He takes a few steps up, stops, puts his hand up to feel the draft, and listens for any sign of life coming from further up.

Zander, and undecorated bedroom contains a pair of beds with straw-stuffed mattresses. At the foot of each bed is a footlocker. At the back of the room, between the beds is another door.

Lae, you hear nothing coming from upstairs.

Servant's quarters, perhaps?

Zander goes to the other door in the room and opens it.

Sure enough, tidy servants' uniforms hang from hooks in this closet.

Lae heads up the stairs as he calls, “heading up!” over his shoulder.

(Third floor for Lae) You come to a dusty balcony with a suit of black plate armor standing against one wall, draped in cobwebs

Oil lamps are mounted on the oak-paneled walls, which are carved with woodland scenes of trees, falling leaves, and tiny critters. There is a double door in one wall to the right, another door facing it, and a door on the wall to the left. The staircase ends on this floor.

Alright Lae, you check up there, I'll stay down here with Zenn and check the last two here. We'll cover more ground. Yell if you find something.

Zander exits the servant's area and checks the wooden double door on the right of the second floor.

(Zander) Red velvet drapes cover the windows of this room. An exquisite mahogany desk and a matching high-backed chair face the entrance and the fireplace, above which hangs a framed picture of a windmill perched atop a rocky crag. Situated in corners of the room are two overstuffed chairs. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves line the south wall. A rolling wooden ladder allows one to more easily reach the high shelves.

Atop the desk are several items: an oil lamps, a jar of ink, a quill pen, a tinderbox, and a letter kit containing a red wax candle, four blank sheets of parchment and a wooden seal.

The bookshelves hold hundreds of tomes covering a wide variety of topics, including history, warfare, and alchemy. There are also several shelves containing first-edition collected works of poetry and fiction.

Zander looks around the room for anything else out of the ordinary, also paying attention to the desk to see if there are any letters incomplete or what the seal looks like.

Lae tries is he double doors.

5 Investigation

(Zander) While searching the desk drawers, you find an iron key. Otherwise, you notice nothing out of the ordinary.

(Lae) The double doors have dusty panes of stained glass set into them. Designs in the glass resembles windmills.

The dusty, cobweb-filled master bedroom has burgundy drapes covering the windows. Furnishings include a four-poster bed with embroidered curtains and tattered gossamer veils, a matching pair of wardrobes, a vanity with a wood-framed mirror and jewelry box, and a padded chair. A rotting tiger-skin rug lies on the floor in front of the fireplace, which has a dust-covered portrait of Gustav and Elizabeth Durst hanging above it. A web-filled parlor in the southwest corner contains a table and two chairs. Resting on the tablecloth is an empty porcelain bowl and a matching jug.

A door facing the foot of the bed has a full-length mirror mounted on it.  The parlor area also has a door.

Hey Zennas, I found a key that might go to the lock you were trying to pick. Do you want to go try that while I check the other door across the hall?

Zander hands the key to Zennas and checks the other double door on the second floor like he said.

Lae glances into at the mirror then opens the door.

"Sounds like a plan, if the key doesn't fit I might have to try and tickle it with my tools again."

Zennas makes his way back to the locked door with the key Zander found and tries it in the lock. 

(Zander) Gossamer drapes cover the windows of this elegantly appointed hall, which has a brass-plated chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Upholstered chairs line the walls, and stained-glass wall hangings depict beautiful men, women, and children singing and playing instruments.

A harpsichord with a bench rests in the northwest corner. Near the fireplace is a large standing harp. Alabaster figurines of well-dressed dancers adorn the mantelpiece.

(Lae) You see yourself reflected in the mirror with a reflection of the room behind you. The door opens to reveal an empty, dust-choked closet.

(Zennas) The key does not fit the lock to the cabinet. If you are going to use your thieves' tools again, roll as before.

Zander is going to look more closely at the harp room.

19 Investigation

Upon closer examination of the alabaster figurines, you can see that several of the dancers are actually carvings of well-dressed skeletons.

Lae sneezes violently, “Damn dusty in here!”  He closes the closet door and tries the parlor door.
