The door opens and you step into the shop. There is a large room in the front with a counter, behind which is a doorway. The front room contains displays of ornate wooden furniture, as well as a selection of bows, crossbows. The wall behind the counter is lined with rows of finely carved wooden canes, quarterstaffs and shields.
Behind the counter is a male half-elf, somewhat short but brawny, with blonde hair and green eyes. "Well hail there! Nicer day out than normal but still we don't see many people during these months. I don't recognize you though - Name's Tally Fellbranch, and this is my wood shop. We make everything you see here and more! We have a pretty good inventory right now but we can also make custom items. What brings you in?"
Cloudfur:
"Well eh .. Cloudfur, I will defer that answer and first introduce you to the lady of the house, who can answer it much better than I!". He stands again, and holds his arm out as if gesturing to someone, though there is no one there. "May I present Lady Jeryth Phaulkon, Chosen of Mielikki. Milady, this is .. eh Cloudfur, a potential recruit!"
You stand there briefly thinking this man has perhaps lost his mind and that you should probably get out of here. But then suddenly, a booming but soothing voice fills the room: "Greetings, The High Winds Upon The Mountain Flow Through His Cloudfur. I am pleased you are here. But I must answer your question with one of my own: Why did you come?"
Sizan:
One bottle being quite a bit lighter than the other two, you set out two glasses, pour some into each and hand one to Vincent. He accepts with a nod, takes a sip and puts in the table, and takes a long pull from his pipe as he leans back in his chair. He considers a moment, pressing his fingers together in front of his face. "That may be the most interesting thing I've heard all day. I like interesting things, and interesting people. I also like a challenge. But I don't work for free - I have a reputation to uphold. What is it specifically you need my help with?"
Sizan continues to refrain from taking a sip himself, not wanting to undo his mask just yet. "A man after my own heart." He says, patting his chest with his free hand. After, there's a moment of silence in which he seems to reconsider his earlier statement before ultimately sighing in defeat. "On second thought, nothing yet as of right now... But... As unlikely as it may be, If over the course of your other ventures you happen to come across the name Sassas, or Azuli, as she once called herself... pocket the information for later."Sizan quickly raises a hand as if to say 'hold a moment'. "But obviously not pursue it further than that. Just know that I am interested in the knowing, and come next time I am here, it'll be for a proper exchange of coin for that and follow-up services on the matter."On that note, Sizan will unmask himself only long enough to down his glass in one go.

(Sorry, I was dealing with real life things. Im trying to catch up on posts, but I'm lost why everyone or how everyone knew to just randomly go somewhere... dori just has the inn to himself and the spirits? )
(No worries. Gargan and Sizan have gone shopping in the neighborhood. Cloudfur seemed to have been invited somewhere but he didn't say anything more than you see above. If you want to join any of them I can make that work, or you can do your own thing - up to you).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Having no reason to leave, explore, or meet with cats... Dori would have stayed at the inn and cleaned up to pass the time. Attempting a better job with the broom than Lif, righting furniture, and throwing anything broken into the fireplace. Starting with the first floor before moving on to the basement then the second, third, and attic.
"Greetings Tally, a fine morning for a stroll I would say. I am Gargan and I have just come into the neighbourhood. My companions and I have just taken ownership of the old manor house, which is in fact why I've popped in. I noticed your craft with the wood, which is most fine I might add, as we will be looking to furnish the place as it's been left in a sorry state. What are your prices? We will be looking to furnish the whole place eventually, assuming you can help us with such a large order, but of course we might need some more coin to pay off the entire order depending on how much you would be asking."
With that Gargan produces the sketch of the building that Sizan had provided him "This is a sketch my friend drew up, I thought it might give you an idea of the rooms we need to furnish. And we include the tavern downstairs also, we hope to bring the business back to the area. Can you help us?"
The booming voice startled him a bit and he looked around for its source. Seeing no immediate threat he looks upward and says
"Please, it is just Cloudfur, I know how annoyed most folk get with full formal names. As for your question....because a cat in my bedroom asked me to? You see my friends and I recently took ownership of a haunted manor and tavern in the North Ward that we are thinking of restoring back to some former glory. It really is haunted, though Lif seems a nice enough spirit once you get to know him. I thought at first perhaps the cat was another displaced spirit until it spoke of this place. The gods work in mysterious ways and thought perhaps this was some divine messenger sending me on a quest. As I mentioned to Master Fellbranch, curiosity got the better of me, and so here I am. Pray tell what is this Emerald Enclave the cat spoke of and what does it require of me?"
You go about cleaning up the tavern a bit. You pull the boards off the lower windows, set all of the furniture upright and inspect each piece. Of the 6 stools, only 1 is any good, and of the 19 chairs, 6 are beyond repair, though several of the others could use repair and everything needs refinishing. 4 of the 6 tables are fine, two are not. You have a look at the bar - it is salvageable but is in dire need of repair as most of the shelves and cabinet doors behind it are broken or falling off.
You gleefully toss everything broken into the fire, which fills up pretty fast. When it does you pull out a burning piece of wood and use it to light the stone oven in the kitchen, filling it up as well. The place is getting pretty warm and the main fireplace is bordering on a full blown bonfire. Occassionally as you pass by the pantry you refill your mug and by the time you're finished you are somewhat inebriated. You make vague attempts at sweeping but.. that's not really your thing. During this time, Lif appears to help out, usually rearranging the furniture after you've sorted it out.
Gargan:
Tally replies enthusiastically, "Well, that's very exciting isn't it! I've been looking at that Manor for years thinking about all the things I could do to clean it up. I've never been inside though as it's been closed as long as I've been here. Of course I could help you out!" He takes the sketches and lays them out, inspecting them and adding some markings here and there, as well as taking some notes.
"Well, there's quite a lot to do and of course it depends on what you want to salvage or not. I could help you at least get the residence cleaned up with some basic furnishings to make it liveable. The furniture for the tavern will take a bit longer. Of course I'd need to pop by to see the place for myself, take some measurements and assess the damage before I could give you a real estimate. However here is my suggestion to get us started:
In the residence, for the bedrooms you need 4 large beds and 1 small one, and perhaps a dresser for each. In that common room it might be helpful to put a long table with some chairs as a gathering place. In fact I have 3 bed frames ready to go, though one is small. The rest I would have to make. For this, and assuming an average amount of basic interior repairs, the cost would be around .. 300 dragons and would take around two tendays, maybe a little more.
In the tavern, we would have to look at what's there and decide on a layout before we can figure out a cost, and there are probably repairs required. I think we could probably get around 8 tables, one of which would sit in the turret and could be moved easily for performers and such. So that's perhaps 30 chairs, 8 tables and 6 bar stools. In the kitchen you'll need some shelves and work tables and such. Tavern furniture is more costly as it has be quite sturdy to stand up to the abuse. That would probably run in the neighborhood of .. 650 dragons. This would take probably 4-5 tendays after the other furniture.
In addition you're obviously going to need interior repairs and on the outside .. well you've seen the place. I think that all in all, I could probably get you up and running for around 1200-1500 dragons for something decent. If you wanted to go a little more upscale (which if I could say might do you better, given the neighborhood), you would probably be more in the 1800-2000 range and might add a little time. I would need some assistance from Embric and Avi at the blacksmith around the corner but if you like I can work with them for you on it. We could probably have everything ready just in time for spring!"
The man has been quite focused and rambling on the whole time - he's clearly enthusiastic. "Oh this is so exciting! When do you want to get started? Oh! What are you going to call it? I hear it used to be called the Loose Moose. Poor bugger that owned it died and left it to his daughter but no one could find her. Sat empty until that other famous fellow bought it."
(TL:DR this guy can do everything for 1200-1500g for plain and 1800-2k for fancy and it'll take 6-8 weeks).
Cloudfur:
The voice continues while Melannor seems to go about his business with some paperwork on his desk. "An interesting tale, Cloudfur. To actually answer your question, the Enclave is a small group of individuals, most of which have a connection to nature. We strive to preserve the balance between nature and civilization, as well as between the different forces within the city. We protect those that have an interest or further the cause of the forces of nature, often working with the City Watch and the Guard, or filling in the gaps they leave.
We have heard of you and your friends, and the service you've done for the city in the last day. You seemed like someone we might have a connection with, which is why we invited you here. We would like to extend an offer to join our group - even if on a .. trial basis. We could use someone like you as our numbers are few in this region. There is no cost or even a significant commitment on your part - we may ask you to complete tasks from time to time that help further our cause. You may accept or decline, but of course you would be rewarded for the work you do. In return we can also try to provide support for you and your friends when needed.
Should you be agreeable and inclined, I actually have something we could use assistance with.."
Sizan:
Vincent chuckles a little and replies: "Your situation intrigues me, as does your presence here. You don't see many Yuan-Ti around these parts. The names you mention are not familiar to me, but I will keep them in mind and perhaps make some casual inquiries. If something turns up I will let you know. In the mean time if you or your cadra have use of my services (and I expect you will, based on what I've heard of you lot so far), I am here as you need me."
He knocks his own drink back. You shake hands, and exit the shop. As you look back towards the manor you can see smoke absolutely billowing out both chimneys on the roof.
(phew! Incidentally I'm just using the spoilers to save you from a wall of text - feel free to read whatever you like)
Gargan listening intently as Tally lists off all of the required considerations, making mental note of the costs involved in particular. As he finishes and mentions the death of the previous owner and his missing daughter it peaks his interest also.
“That all sounds most agreeable Mr Fellbranch. I can’t speak for my companions without consulting with them first but I would very much like to take you up on this contract, including the upscale improvements of course. Assuming you are happy with our arrangements for payments it would be wonderful if you could start as soon as possible. Would you be able to visit the property, at your convenience of course, and provide us with a better estimate?”
He produces the letter from Raener regarding 500 dragons worth of credit and presents it to Tally. “Our friend Mr Neverember has generously offered to help us make a start, will this be enough to get things going? My companions and I will be working to provide the remaining funds in the meantime.
With regards to the name we have not yet decided, I have suggested “The Goliath’s Companion” for our Goliath friend seems to have a way with the spirit which inhabits the place. You mentioned the previous owner and his unfortunate death, I wonder might you be able to elaborate at all? I would be most fascinated to hear anything you might know of the manors past, especially if it might give us some clues as to the identity of our resident spirit.”
Sizan immediately deflated seeing the smoke billowing out of the manor. While on the one hand it meant Dori was still home, on the other it meant... Dori was home. Unattended, except by Ghosts. With a practical bonfire going...
Sizan sighed, and then whispered a curt prayer to 'Oghma' for guidance and strength before making his way casually back to the Inn. Once he confirmed the place wasn't in any immediate danger of burning down, he'll look to Dori. "I see you cleaned up things a bit. You and the... I presume spirit the bartender. Kudos. Shall we clean upstairs next?"

The tabaxi takes it all in while pondering their words. "As a druid I of course hold the balance of nature in high regards as the gods will it so it would seem that we are in concert with each other in those regards. While I myself would be more than willing to help preserve the balance I cannot speak for my companions in their absence, however I am willing to join your organization and will speak with my friends about any tasks you may need done. The grass beneath my feet and the wind in my fur is usually all the rewards I need, but with the state of decay our haunted manor is in, I believe we will need all the support we can find."
Tally nods: "Well as I said I haven't been around here long enough to know exactly what happened - I only know what I hear (and what I've said is about all I know). There are some others who've been around much longer that may be able to tell you more - in particular Rishaal at the book shop down the street. He's been here longer than any of us I think!"
He takes the letter and looks it over. "Well this seems to be in order, but you'll forgive me if I would like to confirm it's authenticity first. You seem nice and all but we've just met - I'm sure you'll understand. Assuming it is good, this would be enough to cover the residential work and a good enough deposit for the rest of it. Of course we wouldn't be able to make final delivery without payment in full, and even still I'd appreciate if you can perhaps make some payment as we progress, as I'm going to have to buy quite a lot of additional materials and spend a lot of time on this work. I can stop by later this afternoon if you like to take a look at everything!"
Cloudfur:
"Good news indeed. Melannor is my caretaker and will be your main interface with the enclave. He will provide you with your first task. Please know that you do not have to undertake these tasks on your own - your friends can assist regardless of their standing with us. Also, before I take my leave I would like to provide you with a gift. Melannor, if you please".
Melannor walks over to a cabinet in the room, takes out a key and unlocks it. He pulls a small wooden box from it and hands it to you. It is extremely well made and is embossed with a round insignia with the head of stag on it. Within it you find a small amulet in a similar shape on platinum chain."
Jeryth chimes in again "This token is a symbol of membership in the enclave, but it also has the ability to cleanse the body of ill effects, when the situation requires it. Should you find it's uses expended you may call on me to replenish it provided you remain in good standing with us. I thank you for your willingness to help and look forward to seeing you again, Cloudfur. (The amulet is a Charm of Restoration)
Melannor steps forward again: "Well it seems the lady is fond of you - welcome to the Enclave! As to your first task, we could definitely use your assistance. Outlying farms in the Undercliff are being terrorized by a scarecrow come to life. It has slaughtered livestock, chased horses, and spooked farmers. No people have been killed as yet, so the City Guard is dragging its heels. Something must be done! Please look into it and see if you can remove this menace".
He takes the amulet out of the case and puts it on, admiring the craftsmanship and beauty of the piece.
"A scarecrow? near the Undercliffs? I shall see what we can do about that as soon as possible. Thank you m'lady Phaulkon and thank you Master Fellbranch. If you do not require anything more of me I will return to my friends with the task."
Dori grumbles at Lif, but still happy with the amount of work he was able to complete on his own. Having done as much as he could would go about simply inspecting the place from basement to attic. Looking for anything of value or that might have been overlooked by Sizan
Again, most of the house is empty. However in the library, after briefly leafing through some of the books there deciding which you can burn, you come across what looks like a journal. Handwriting is scrawled across the pages and based on the dates written it spans the better part of 2 years leading up to Lif's death and the closure of the Loose Moose.
The journal reveals the previous owner's name was Lif Greatward. It appears to start shortly after Lif's wife was kidnapped and found dead several days later. He was clearly distrought, left to fend for himself, his tavern, and his adolescent daughter. The killers were never brought to justice, and Lif was devastated at the loss of the love of his life. He struggled to keep his business afloat, complaining often about the customers, the upkeep required, and his employees. He ranted bitterly about the various 'unions' in the city that all came pecking at his door looking for their slice in exchange for 'protection' or 'avoiding scrutiny of his business practices'. At home he struggled to find time to spend with his daughter. Over time, the writing became distant, bitter, and cold.
It was clear that he had so much responsibility that he abdicated all of it. He paid little attention to his growing child and even less to his tavern. He let it go, and his attitude became sour. Fewer people came to the tavern and even fewer ever came back. He rants about customers that abandoned him, and how it was going to drive him under and force him to close his doors. In one of the last entries he writes about how his daughter, Kiara, had now abandoned him - run off to Neverwinter to start a new life and get as far away from his as she could.
The only positive thing you frequently find is a reference to a close friend named Fala. Fala, he said, was always there for him, visited him often, tried to help keep his tavern running sometimes even at the sacrifice of their own business. They knew his daughter and had tried desperately to mend the widening gap between them, and to convince her to stay. It seems he felt Fala was the only one that wasn't out to get him.
A dozen or so pages later he speaks about how the closure of his business is imminent. He has no coin left to pay his suppliers, his taxes, and certainly none to pay off his 'protection', but they were all out to get him anyhow - telling people to stay away, that it was a run-down, unsafe and miserable place to visit. He also hadn't heard from his daughter in several tendays, had no idea where she was or how to reach her and despite the fact that he ignored her while she was here, was devastated she had abandoned him. This is the last entry. There are several blank pages at the end of the book.
Cloudfur: Melannor smiles and walks you to the exit. As the door closes behind you, you look around and now notice the grounds of the estate. Even in the winter time, the gardens are very impressive - you can imagine they would be fairly spectacular in the summer months.
(Sorry the item got messed up - I've added it to your inventory.)
Dori looks up from the book as he finishes flipping through the last couple blank pages, searching for any kind of writing utensil. If none were found, the goliath would be content to just a charred piece of wood from the fireplace.
Once having one or the other in hand, Dori made his way to a table or sturdy surface. Going as far as lying on the ground if need be. He'd then turn the book to the first blank page in the back and in his best common write out:

Gargan

Cloudfur
The tabaxi takes it all in while pondering their words. "As a druid I of course hold the balance of nature in high regards as the gods will it so it would seem that we are in concert with each other in those regards. While I myself would be more than willing to help preserve the balance I cannot speak for my companions in their absence, however I am willing to join your organization and will speak with my friends about any tasks you may need done. The grass beneath my feet and the wind in my fur is usually all the rewards I need, but with the state of decay our haunted manor is in, I believe we will need all the support we can find."
and with that he will give a low bow.
