"Yeah, this house is full of weird stuff. Let's just say Twig wasn't always blue, and I briefly experienced what it's like to be blind. What exactly are you looking for here?" Garth said, appraising the halfling now standing in front of them.
"I was searching for the owner's magic items. I heard the wizard here died recently and thought I might find a magic staff to help me get strong enough to stop the sickness killing this land." Jack says with a bit of venom in his voice.
"Calm down, just curious on what you were looking for." Garth said placatingly.
"I think I would like to talk to Twig in private for just a moment. Please excuse us while we head upstairs for a moment." Garth motions for Twig to follow him as he starts up the stairs.
(Assuming Twig follows Garth)
For Twig
"We were talking earlier today about how nice it would be to have a magic user with us on our quest. You saw him turn from a bear into a halfling, and he said he's trying to cure the Blight too. Our situation is more precarious since Randy up and left earlier. I think we should see if he wants to join us, and we can share those books we found. What do you think?" Garth said quietly to Twig.
Twig nods in agreement. “His goals seem aligned with ours, though his perception of time seems to be a bit lacking. Though I’m not sure if we should give him that magic wand or not. You might be able to trade it for more coins. What do you think?” (Let me know)
Twig and Garth go back downstairs and explain about their collaboration with Prozhar, and they invite him to join in their quest to save the land.
"I agree, let's at least hold onto the wand for a bit longer until we have a good idea on who we're dealing with. I say we give him the beginner's magic book, and if he has a knack and it's beneficial to our quest, we can give him more of the books that we found. I'll go grab two more books before heading down." Garth said to Twig. He quickly went back up to the attic and grabbed two additional books, making sure that they were books Twig had earlier said were on magic.
Coming back down the steps, Garth made sure to wait until Twig was done before speaking to Jack. "We've pretty much explored the entire house, except for a room down here that seems to have some kind of enchantment that seems to have turned everything in it to stone. As a show of goodwill, if you join us in our quest we will give you this beginner's magic book that we found while exploring the house. I think it teaches transmutilation or some such." He said, pulling the book from his pack to show Jack.
"Wow! Thanks. Well I'll follow your lead then. I would love to help you with what I can. We may not be the strongest but I hope we'll be enough to help stop this curse on the land." Jack says as he takes the book. "I am a druid by the way. Which means I use nature to fuel my basic."
Garth leads the group to the Dining Hall, and opens the door to the side room to show Jack the room.
"If I remember right, I think there was a halfling somewhere in here with a staff. Looked magical, maybe it can help you out." Garth said from the doorway, examining the room once more.
"Yeah. I killed those rats. I entered this room and the rats were eating the food and then the food just vanished so I was worried they would try and eat me so I blasted them away with myThunderwave. I felt threatened so it was purely self defense. I am not typically the type to jump straight to hurting things." Jack says as he looks around the room surveying his damage.
"Alright, well it seems you took care of the threat in here. I remember that there was a staff in here when we peaked in a few hours ago. Did you already grab that?" Garth said as he steps into the room. Garth searches through the room for anything interesting.
"A few hours ago? I came in her not 20 minutes ago and this room was empty of anything other than the plates of food and some rats." Jack says with some confusion.
“Wait...you said that there was food here? When we arrived it had all but molded to dust. And the rats were made of stone. And there was a stone halfling here....” Twig points where the halfling had been.
“You were the stone halfling” Twig murmurs. “How long do you thing the Blight has been going on? Because it’s been about 60 years.”
(DM says Astabar died 20 years ago, so if Jack was turned to stone right after Astabar’s death, it should’ve been about that long)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“You think I was turned to stone? That’s absurd. The blights been here for something like 40 years, not 60.” Jack says with no small amount of confusion. He looks around the room as if the room might make some sense to him.
“That can’t be!” Jack says looking between the blue cat lady and the mess he made. “How could I have been turned to stone without my noticing? How did I get turned back? I am so confused.”
"We must have done something to break the spell when we were upstairs in the attic. I think we heard crashing noises down here around the time that Rhett up and disappeared." Garth shrugged and stepped back into the dining hall.
"We already searched over this house, though it's possible we missed something. Do you want to remain here any longer, or should we continue the journey to the Underdark?" Garth asks Jack and Twig.
You hear a faint ringing sound and then words pop into your head, you somehow know they are coming from Prozhar. "Got jaw. New task. Stone of Courage. Dungeon of Gluntak. Mountains near Aguatalm. Good luck."

The room has furniture knocked to the side and dead rats up against the walls. The moldy food is also against the walls. There is no stone.

(The insight roll is to see how honest Twig seems in what she said)
You can't detect any dishonesty from her. Her catlike features seem about as sincere as a cat could be.
