Locke lingers briefly once the Goblin finished his speech then approaches. He leans in and draws the goblin close by waving his hand in a come hither motion.
"Excuse me sir, I was sent here by the City Watch to inquire about some local crime elements about town. A highly skilled team is being assembled to take these groups down and we wish to have as much knowledge about them as possible. The two groups I am referring to are the Slaine and Cazanarro Guilds. Any information you may have about them would be most helpful. Furthermore the quieter we can keep this the better we don't know who is listening"
"I don't know a thing about it, and furthermore, I don't want to! " The goblin snaps. "I'm a clerk, not an underworld contact! Now if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. " He proceeds to ignore you.
The goblin sighs and launches into a speech he has probably delivered many times before.
"Senator Windfellow, along with the gnome and halfling senators, has proposed the idea that the kenku... er, such as yourself, and a number of other races native to this continent be allowed a seat in the High Council. He has already gained the support of the wood elves, orcs, and and tieflings. Once the majority of the senate has approved this idea it will be made into law. But he has a long way to go before the majority vote in favor of this radical concept."
"Radical concept? Don't you think invaders should share power with the people they displaced?"
Jevyn placed a hand on Leaves' shoulder before things got worse. "Come, Seabeak. There will be a great deal of time before everyone can understand each other. We are strangers in a strange land, and we would do well not to forget that," he said before turning to the goblin clerk. "Thank you for your assistance, and for your help in describing the current proposals put forth by Senator Windfellow." Jevyn thumped a fist on his breast, a salute for one's equals in the hobgoblin legions, before turning to go. He indicated Leaves should follow him as he headed out the door to join up with the rest of the party.
[Sorry, I'm multitasking all over the place right now, so this took longer to finish than I'd like to admit.]
The pleasant aroma of meat and pastries greets your nostrils as you swim through the sea of smiling faces towards The Watchtower in the center of the city. Children scream, dogs bark, and merchants hawk their wares at every step you take, and all is happy confusion and pleasant chaos.
It is now about 10 in the morning, and the city is yours to explore!
Shiv will motion to his large metal friend to hurry along as he walks with Tak towards the City Watch building. "OH man! I this place is huge"he viashino will say weaving in and out of the crowd. "I wonder if we will get cool uniforms if we sign up... I bet the gang we agree'd to help wouldn't like us joining the city watch but we could just tell them that we are trying to pull an INSIDE JOB.. I am sure they would be fine with it" A large toothy grin spreading across the lizards face as he travels down the road.
"My job is not to argue politics with every random adventurer who turns up on the doorstep.." The goblin says coldly.
Leaves stood stone cold, head cocked to one side, as Kenku do when faced with a situation they don't know how to react to. In the end she opted to mime something she had seen Locke do, holding up her splayed heads in an air of surrender.
"Peace, friend, I was only making conversation!..." Leaves trailed off, following Jevyn.
...
Outside, she mentioned to her companions.
"Hey, weren't we looking for the sheriff? Oh well." The perils of following a hyperactive Lizard-man to find work was apparent.
The Watchtower is an impressive sight, towering well above every other building in the vicinity. It is joked by some that the guards who watch from its summit can see all ghe way to the Endless Ocean, fully twoscore miles distant.
Milling around and walking in and out of The Watchtower are several soldiers, known as the Watchmen. They wear stainless white shirts over black chain mail, and they carry an assortment of blunted weapons for putting down riots and major criminal activity. The tower itself is made of washed white stone and stands at an imposing 700 feet.
Tak, will land and walk up to one of the watchmen and say, "Excuse me sir we got a flyer for potential work and were hoping there might be something quick that we could take care of today. Who would we see in the watchtower for that?"
Shiv will bounce around the side Tak, his tail thrashing about frantically. "Now I know I don't speak for all of us, but I want to work for you a lot more than just one day.... the problem is that tomorrow we have a thing going on.. so maybe we could do something for you today.... earn a little coin and prove ourselves to you... and then maybe we can work out a more long term agreement? The green viashino will say with a large toothy grin. His tongue flicking wildly as though he can taste the honest work.
Atlas has been busy observing the city around them, far too caught up in his own thoughts to say much of anything. Nevertheless, his wits return about him as he stomps up into the The City Watch's tower. The Watch Officer eyes him up and down, and Atlas just stares back with his glowing green eyes. "It is as the scaled one says. We can work for more than a single day. Besides, you either need help with these issues or not. I merely seek to perform my duties."
"We aren't exactly committed to one place at any given time. We currently have a job lined up for tomorrow that would make it difficult for us to work from today through tomorrow. Since it isn't exactly profitable to sit around and wait, we decided to go to the City Hall and find some work. We were redirected here, and as such, we'd like to take on a job. I do hope that you have something for us, otherwise this trip will have been wasted." Jevyn thought for a moment before continuing. "Well, not entirely. We know where to find the guards if something that even we can't deal with shows up."
[Similarly, sorry about the radio silence. I was out of town for the weekend.]

Locke quickly taps the desk with each of his fingers then gives it a quick tap with his knuckles.
"Well thank you sir. The City Watch appreciates your help" Locke says sarcastically then walks away in the direction his friends went.
"Radical concept? Don't you think invaders should share power with the people they displaced?"

Shiv would yawn and then join Tak outside
(I'm waiting for our other players who aren't posting as much to get involved before we proceed. Should I just continue with the story?)

The guard jerks his thumb over his shoulder at a short little man with a short red cape denoting his rank of captain.
"Captain Witherwick is the man you want."

Tak will head over to the Captain, "Excuse me sir my friends and I are looking for preferably a quick job that could be handled today."
The man looks you over, sizing you up with a practiced eye, especially Atlas.
"What makes you think you'll be of any use to us for just a day?"
