The group walks a few blocks then turns on Candle Lane, stopping at the end. Though the sun is still out behind the misty rain, it is still hard to see. Gloom envelops the narrow alley as dark as a dungeon — and as odorous as one, too. Nearly all the streetlamps have been smashed. The only light that pierces the darkness is a faint flickering from down the lane, like a distant candle. Across the street from the light is a ramshackle two-story warehouse. From here you can see the candle slightly illuminates some symbol painted above the handle, but you can't quite make out what it is. The sounds of normal bustling life comes from the buildings whose backs are to the alley, they are likely houses with dozens of people living inside. Down the lane, you see someone open a window on the third floor and empty out a chamber pot. The contents hit the ground with a sickening wet thud.
Odrith's posture snaps to attention, he head turns from side to side, and his teeth show a little. It took long enough, but Odrith finally realizes that him and his fellows are not only in a dangerous part of town, but they are also in fact in danger. "Stay close to me. If anything happens, I will try to shelter you from blows as much as I can."
Once again food is my weakness. My blindness to our surrounds led us straight into this squalor. It is my job to ensure the safety of these misfits and I will be damned if I even consider failing.
Odrith slowly steps forward to get a better look at the symbol above the handle.

It felt like no time at all before Whit had showed up again. Though without a Skull in sight. And some very choice information. Chalk guessed that the shop owner had merely remembered where the fop had been taken. Whit had been honest, who could have guessed that? Well it did make for an exciting lead. She hops up with the others and hurries out. The bar wasn't a very cozy place to nest.
The city is dulled by the rain and Chalk's feathers fluff up to keep away the chill but it doesn't help too much. As Whit points out the target, she spends a moment to look it over. THat light could prove a hindrance if they wanted to get closer, provided they didn't want to be noticed. She grabs Whit's attention and makes a splashing noise like a bucket of water being poured onto a campfire and gestures at the light and wiggles her fingers.

Whit uses prestidigitation on Chalk trying his best to keep his feather dry and sees his friends tense up and follows suit. Whit tries to move stealthily and keep watch for any signs of trouble.
As Odrith approaches the door, he slips on a strange slick, wet substance on the ground, slamming into the door hard. He hears a scuffle inside the door, and getting a good look at the handle, he sees the familiar snake symbol above the door. It is the symbol of the Zhentarim.
Whit sneaks up behind Odrith, and just happens to peak inside window after Odrith slams the door. He sees a few small dark shapes, about the size of Chalk, scatter into different doors inside the building.
Odrith rubs his forehead, right when it smacked into the door. Today is not a good day. "Yeah, I guess lets go in." Grumbles Odrith as he reaches to open the door. "If the Zehn are involved in this kidnapping, I am going to burn so many backsides!" Smoke slowly tendrils out of Odrith's mouth and nose as he talks, voice slowing gaining more of a growl to it than actual words.
Chalk winces as their attempt at stealth is foiled by Odrith's less than dexterous feet. This rain really was a nuisance. She scurries over as the two begin converse in not so hushed tones. "We go in," she affirms to Whit. Though the front entrance seemed a little too obvious. Somebody knew they were out here in the muck. "Nothing to see here, " she motions towards the side of the building, "Make a quick detour." A look around the side might make for a better entry point.
Odrith slowly retracts his hand from the door handle and silently nods to Chalk. "That seems like a much better idea, lead the way." Odrith says as he raises his hand for Chalk to lead the way.
You notice that on the side of the building is a large warehouse door, with a visible lock close to the ground that is a bit rusty, but seems to be holding well. The window is mostly painted over besides a small sliver that Whit was able to see movement through, it also appears to be locked. Closer inspection on the door shows that it is locked as well, and has a sliding peephole that can be opened from the inside, but doesn't budge from the outside. You do not see any other entrances into the building.
Whit turns to the party and whispers "Alright it seems that all of the entrances are locked. Now I'm not particularly a fan of either options, but we could either bust the window or break down the door. I would prefer something less conspicuous so if there are any other ideas I would love to hear them."
"I already used my head to knock on the front door, I don't think we can worry about being inconspicuous anymore." Odrith turns and tries to kick down the door.
Chalk's beak is half open as she is about to suggest a way to make Whit's plan go more smoothly. Odrith's hasty kick ruins that. She tries to salvage it by disguising the noise by causing a clamorous crackle of thunder as he strikes the door. She hopes that Odrith will end up fine in the ensuing target.
As Odrith's foot connects with the soft wood on the old door, a flash of lightning and the boom of thunder fills the alleyway. The door wasn't near as sturdy as Odrith expected, and the door leaves its hinges, rocketing into the empty entrance room of the warehouse, and landing with a crash as the last rolls of thunder rumble through around the warehouse.
The large room stretches out of site to the left and right, it looks to be about the size of a small church. Tables and chairs have been carelessly tossed across the floor. The corpses of a dozen men lie along the walls, their rapiers and daggers lying nearby. On the north side of the area to your left as you stare in, stairs rise to an open level above.
One person can roll perception with advantage (from help from everyone else) to see more details in the room before entering.
The door clatters to the ground, revealing a room filled with bodies. Kaivius looks around, trying to glean something more about the bodies.

Her eyes travel to the back of the room where stairs ascend into the gloom. A second floor? That's usually where the bosses are. Maybe we can find out more information up there. Her eyes fall back to the bodies on the floor. And maybe I can find myself a better stick.
It seemed like Chalk's worries were misplaced. No ambush was immediately in sight. Dead people couldn't ambush anyone. Unless there were some undead mixed in there. She lets out a low whistle at the carnage, before shifting from Kavius to Odrith, "Why do they always fight? Price of breaking the law." She lets Odrith take the lead as she mutters a guttural incantation to bring forth another icy bolt in preparation. "Any idea what happened?" Clearly some sort of disagreement but what?
As Odrith enters the room, shielding his companions behind his bulk, Kaivius rushes to the nearest bodies on the ground, a group of 3 together. Two of the bodies have the familiar winged snake tattoos on their necks, and the other has a vaguely familiar tattoo of a circle with ten spokes radiating out from its circumference on her palm. The wounds seem to match the weapons of the two groups, and the rest of the room is a similar scene. You notice there are 5 humans with the snake tattoos, and 7 of the humans with the circles.
As Kaivius moves to inspect another group, Odrith holds his arm out, stopping her before she can move past him. He has just noticed movement behind one of the overturned tables. As he moves to get a better look behind, from across the room a small Kenku quickly pop up, firing a shot off. It thuds into Odriths shield, quivering as he looks down at it. Three more kenku pop up from behind other overturned furniture, ready to attack.
