I have an idea Bob. Since I know exactly where the ooze is at all times, could Elmo retreat into the darkness along with the ooze and engage the ooze there while I told him where to strike?
Elmo, not feeling the least bit threatened at this point, but also now left in darkness again, takes an Opportunity of Attack to strike the ooze (with a disadvantage due to the darkness) with his rapier. It slices through the ooze and before it can make it's way further into the tunnel, the ooze deflates into a puddle, which then shrinks into a couple of drops of sizzling goo that stinks of decay.
Elmo can't tell due to the darkness that his rapier is also sizzling from the successful strike. (Rapier takes a permanent -1 to damage rolls.) Elmo looks around and appears to be alone again in the chamber.
Our adventurers found themselves trapped in an ancient temple, deep within the Underdark and long forgotten by all save perhaps the eldest of Duerger Dwarves in Gracklstugh. With time running out to escape the temple before it floods completely, they meet an unusual gelatinous cube creature named Glabbagool who've they've befriended as their guide. Finally reaching a likely escape route, they also reach the temple's ceremonial fountain chamber where the party now gathers.
With Morgana's careful inspection within the central chamber of the temple, the decision presents itself to either make a hasty escape and resume their journey to the surface, or tempt fate in the hopes of uncovering lost magical treasures..****y time will tell in the next installment of...The Great (Mis)Adventures of Spelunking in the Underdark!
Elmo - Upon close inspection, you definitely see something shining deep in the water, but it doesn't appear to be something you can grab or pull out. You're not sure what it is but you're pretty sure there's not much you can do about it right now.
This room is square in shape, roughly 20ft x 20ft with a stone-worked fountain whose statue has been broken, in the center of the room that commands your attention. What anyone could see is what remains of the broken statue appears to be a pair of clawed feet clutching the pedestal's top. The basin widens as it rises from the floor and is filled with shallow, brackish water that looks to have a shiny glint in the bottom of the basin, around the base of the broken statue.
Elmo's investigation of the basin reveals slightly more information about the basin and its shining area below the water.
Morgana - You approach one of the walls that you notice has water pouring through it. Upon inspection, you see that it's a crack in the wall that shouldn't be there by all intents. Water is filling the temple from this location, although you suspect this isn't the only place as the crack isn't that large to begin with. Behind the water, which cascades down the recessed part of the wall (a niche in this case, and there are 7 of them), you see what might be a gem inlaid into the wall. Your confident this one is something you can somehow manipulate.
Glabbagool - "This room I have been curious about, although it's secrets I have yet to understand. I believe I may be at a disadvantage to unraveling those secrets as I have virtually no understanding of how the world works, other than immediate dangers to health and basic necessities of life. What I've learned is through my experiences with you, the oozes in this temple and a pair of adventurers that were here long before you."
Elmo investigates the first of the four recessed areas of the room's wall which contain formless sculptures. THESE ARE GRAY OOZES!!! Your immediate reflex is to jump flip with a half somersault to a safe distance but you don't. Because your uncanny sense of investigation quickly reveals that these oozes are in a type of magical stasis. Looking past these sculptures for a moment and you notice they seem to be covering a large gem that's been set deep into the wall. You're positive that the glint in the basin, whatever's captured Morgana's attention so intently, and surely what you suspect Gremryl will discover, and this gem are connected somehow. Well, Gremryl Stonebreaker is a Dwarf, so your expectations of his powers of deduction are...very low.
You hear a rumble...it's your stomach. You realize you haven't had a meat snack in Moradin knows how long...
Gremryl Stonebreaker makes his way over to one of the stone wall recessed areas that appear to have nothing special about them. He walks over proudly confident that his incredible talents of investigatory astuteness will uncover the missing piece to solve this chamber's riddle. As he approaches the wall, he places his ears up to the cold stone to hear what it knows...not looking too carefully before placing his ear against the wall, Gremryl unfortunately, places it just next to a small bug on the wall which just so happens to be of the rather aggresive type, and just so happens to be having a bad day. Once the Dwarf's right ear touches the stone, the small bug skitters a few inches over towards it and takes a Halfling's fingernail-size chunk off with a loud (to Gremryl) crunch!
Gremryl pulls away, clutching his bleeding ear in hand, as it's now bleeding profusely. While everyone else is busy inspecting their areas of the room, Gremryl attempts to hide the shame of embarrassment and quickly bandage his right ear up in loose cloth he tears from his clothes. Instead of continuing the investigation of the wall, he focuses his thoughts on coming up with a believable story to account for his now bandaged ear that doesn't involve a small, voracious wall-bug. Looking up to where he felt the bite, he sees no trace of the bug.

After not hearing anything for a few moments, Morgana Calls Out: "What's the deal, midget? You dead yet?"
Gremryl comes running up to morgana:
"everything ok? we heard the shouts..."

I'll telepathically ask our ooze friend if he has any information regarding this room.
I also want to investigate the opening that has the water trickling out of it closely 9
I want to poke around in the fountain for danger or things acid/or ooze with my damaged rapier in the water. Do I need to roll?
eyeing a shinny gem, Elmo would like to investigate and take a closer look. 13
Elmo - What shiny gem are you referring to exactly?
