Suddenly, you see small little spores erupting from Stool and permeating the air around you. An unfamiliar voice speaks softly in an almost child-like manner.
"Down here. The myconid. You can call me Stool. You'd use the term 'mushroom' to describe my appearance, right? My spores allow us to speak telepathically. I'm scared. I don't want to die. I just want to go home! I can show you how to get there. Just promise me I won't die here?"
"whaaa.. " Sniffing the spores, and hearing the voices Grem looks down and sees Stool. Having traveled the underdark, he's not too particularly surprised by this.
"Alright little stool, you help us out and I promise you die down in here. but stick close.."
Grems turns to the rest of the Prisoners "well then... whats it gonna be you Lilly livered giants dung? you want a chance at life, or a slow death in slavery? I don't plan on sticking around, and letting these dark skinny elves beat me and push me around, meself and the young Lass are getting out one way or another. you Drow... whats your thinking.. I've seen that look before, you know something? hows it you in here with us? speak up!" (rolled an intimidation check - nat 20!)
(Out Of Context [OOC] - Please use the roll function here to record the roll. I trust you, but for the sake of transparency please.)
Stool - "You promise I'll die down in here?! No! No! Please! I just want to get home!"
The little mushroom runs off to the farthest corner of the slave pen he can find and begins shaking uncontrollably. Clearly hearing Grem promise to kill him if he helps them. Sarith on the other hand, taken aback with the Dwarf's conviction and booming voice coming from a creature of such small stature, responds.
Sarith - "I know this encampment because I used to work here. Until I was accused of murdering a fellow guard, that is. I'd like nothing more than to take revenge on my old...friends. You'd be wise to listen to this little fungal creature that you scared half to death. He knows the way to Neverlight Grove. We'll find sanctuary and the way to the surface from there."
Sarith pauses there to gauge reaction from the ugly Dwarf.
OOC- I meant to say we'd take the stool and if he helped us I promised he wouldn't die here.. lol.
Gremryl stares evenly at the Drow unsure what to make of him. Given his current situation he has limited options..
Stool! sorry I tend to mumble, what I meant to say was if you help us out of here I promise you will not die here, and we'll get you back to your home. And you, Elf... you murdered you own eh... Well, you looking to add to that count? as soon as we break out, they'll come looking for us. you plan on staying here or whats your angle? The rest of you spider food are gonna rot down here.
Stool stops shaking, and if he had a body, you'd see him ease up a bit from an otherwise very tense and nervous posture.
Stool - "So...you're not going to kill me? You're going to help me get home? Please, I don't want to die...I just want to go home where it's safe!"
Sarith, also hearing Stool speaking telepathically, replies to Gremryl,
Sarith - "The more of them I kill now, the fewer will come after us when I escape this place. I didn't kill that fool. But they've lost faith in my loyalty so to hell with Madam Ilvara and Jorlan, and the whole lot of them. We should get to the sanctuary of Neverlight Grove and from there you can get to the surface."
Elmo woke up some time ago. Having last remembered being taken by drow, and knowing what happens to those taken by the drow, Elmo has been dreading his fate while avoiding cell conflict in captivity by basically "playing dead". After Listening to everything that has happened around him, Elmo finely speaks to Gremryl and any others enaged in the mushroom conversation.
"Hello... Ive been playing dead and doing my best to become part of the wall because, to be straight with you all, attractive halflings such as myself don't thrive in the general population of most incarcerated environments. My names Elmo and while courage has never been my best attribute, Im a fair shade decent at surviving and finding my way out of a scrape. Dont let me size fool you, I can be slippery.
"Don't be afraid of our dwarven friend! They tend to be a gruff lot. From my experience, you cant befriend one of their stuborn kind until they have threatened to kill you at least once."
"I'm with the others, shroom. Stick close and follow instructions and you'll be just fine. In general, I plan to burn up yonder spiderwebs (indicates webs opposite slave pens) when we open this gate. Hopefully, the drow will be confused and panic trying to save their spider pets. I'm hoping we can sneak out in the midst of the mayhem. But there are a few different paths out of here. Which one leads us to the grove you speak of?
Stool remains cautious about the inexplicable confidence in your plans to escape you have because he knows that once you set fire to the webs, the alarm will sound, and you'll still have quite a ways to go before arriving at any of the three passages that exit Velkynvelve.
Stool - "Oo..ok. It's umm..."The fungal creature hops around and seems to crane what would be his neck in multiple directions before orienting himself properly."It's through the West passageway! That's the way to the Darklake, which will take us to Neverlight Grove where we'll be safe!"
Sarith - "There are 19 Drow that are deployed to this encampment, including the Priestess, Madam Ilvara. There are also a dozen Quaggoth's and a number of Giant Spiders. Discretion may be the better part of valor here."Sarith says with a sneer.
I get home from coaching my kids' soccer practices at 6, done with dinner by 6:45 and could be ready for a couple hours of session time from 7-9 with a break at 8 to put my kids to sleep. :)
This next session might see an escape from the prison! But not without opportunities for even better treasure and certainly not without a herculean effort to get through the Drow that still patrols the encampment. DM's advice - run from Ilvara. She's used to killing entire parties on multiple occasions before settling in for the night with some light reading.
The group that stormed the Guard Tower is now trapped by two Giant Spiders. One of which is locked into combat with Ront and Prince Derendil. The other has his eyes on Eldeth, Gremryl, Morgana, and Elmo.
Initiative Order:
Eldeth
Giant Spider
Gremryl
Morgana
Elmo
Eldeth curses at the Giant Spider and lays into her heavy swing, aimed at one of the creature's 8 legs. MISS! As a seasoned warrior, she's able to take another swing at the Giant Spider's mesh of eyes and teeth on this turn. MISS! The Giant Spider deftly avoids the dwarf's attempts to harm it. Fueled by the aggression, it attempts to take a bite of the tiny humanoid. HIT! The Giant Spider's teeth sink in deeply as you see blood begin to pulse out of Eldeth's body. Thanks to her dwarven resistance, Eldeth is not poisoned by the venomous fangs.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Elmo Want to remain hidden. He stealths 25. Then he wants to attack Eldeth with his light crossbow (I dont know what his hit and damage bonus are for the crossbow. I would have advantage right? Sneak attack?) 6

Elmo gives a half assed bow
What can I do to help?
Being flayed by drow would be terrible for my delicate condition.
To Sarith Sarith
"How do we get to this Neverlight Grove?"
