You encounter no traps as you open the charred chest. Whatever used to reside in the wooden box is now reduced to an unidentifiable pile of ashes, and your efforts are rewarded with nothing but dirty fingers.
"This room's seen better days, the chest has been set ablaze, I think we found a dead end to the maze." Perry entering the room just to give it a once over glance. He cared not about the chest as it could contain either treasures or danger and he cared not about either.
Humphry raises a finger to Perry's comment, "Ah, but maybe not, f-f-f-fool h-a-a-ardy troubadour. You must consider alllll posibilit-t-ties."

"The city dwellers often keep animals in cages, do they not?" The marauder rumbles in a low voice to his companions. "We might be able to discern what lies within these corridors by what had once been housed here."

Perry having nothing left to gain from the room would head out, "My turn to pick and don't forget we have another corridor. These could all be empty rooms. " The third door being nothing and the first blocked by a portcullis, Perry would continue down toward the second.
The half-orc feels around at the bottom of the cage for a moment, then sniffs and narrows his dark eyes at a few minuscule details.
"Birds." He growls. "These were cages for birds."
Dagon stands to his full height and looks around the room again. "It would appear that, for now, this room will not bring us closer to our prey. We should continue onward."
With that the warrior returns to the other path options and waits for his team to assemble and decide which corridor to follow next.
Kic relays what he sees beyond the portcullis and moves to the intersection of corridors ready to rush to his companions if they should discover anything and renews his casting of shillelagh on his staff.
Choosing the second exit, you walk down a straight corridor and find yourselves in front of a wooden door. Through the door is a large room with a massive pile of dung in one corner. There is another wooden door in the northern wall.

Dagon swears an oath in Giant when presented with the size of the dung pile, but never the less he edges closer to once again try and determine which beast might have left these droppings behind. He glances in Humphry's direction and nods the gnome in the direction of the door on the northern wall, then turns his attention back to the pile.

"The door's c-c-clear." Humphry exclaims. Looking back towards the pile of dung, a curious thought finds him, and he begins to approach the pile. "One m-m-moment if you w-w-w-wi... will, companions." Without warning, the crotchety old gnome starts prodding through the dung layer by layer with his quarterstaff, looking for recognizable bones or other undigested matter, trying to determine what being met there end here and what they might have left behind. Investigation 18
Humphry takes a quick, nervous look around, and inspects the room for pressure plates, tripwires, dart holes, and the like. Investigation 18
If he sees nothing amiss, Humphry will sneak up to the chest and also inspect it for traps. Investigation 25 And slowly opens the chest.

Torches burn in brackets along the walls and some broken barrels lie scattered about the floor.

Standing again, the warrior walks away from the pile and rejoins his fellows at the northern doorway.
"Grick." He mutters with a head gesture back toward the dung. "Be on your guard."
Following the direction of Dagon, Humphry starts inspecting the door for traps. Investigation 24
While he works, the gnome starts speaking absentmindedly to himself, "Grick... grick.... W-w-what in the Nine Hells is a grick?"
