Jack narrowly misses the manticore.

Reverie slashes with her scimitar and then pierces with her dagger. Hopefully, the Manticore could limping from this fight. ”Theren, be careful!”

Trimyrai fires another arrow at the manticore.

(I listed that Froskan and Reverie’s dagger missed last round. All others hit.)

Reverie’s scimitar and Trim’s arrow have finished off the Manticore. You carefully look around and listen to the cave. Just normal woodland noises. (Combat is over.)

While cutting off its head (for proof that you killed what attacked the donkeys), you notice glass shards in its teeth and jaws.

(Let me know if you want to go into the cave, or do something else.)

Reverie frowns as she finds out glass shards in its teeth and jaws. "How strange..." She mumbles as her fingers trace the jaw of a dead Manticore. "Why does this one has glass shards?"

"I don't know, but some wounds were healed. There might be something else." Jack heads into the cave, using his darkvision to see. (If disadvantage, use lower roll:1 or 4)

(Ok.... Jack is blind. He cant see crap. Maybe this is why he failed to see a KRAKEN sneak up on him. Someone else, please look too.)

(There is still a pebble with Light on it, inside the cave.)

Jack sees piles of bones and rotting meat. The deer the manticore was feeding on before it was about to leave. (You guys interrupted its meal.) You also smell the scent of healing potions. You find the shattered shards of 2 glass vessels, which the manticore ate to heal up slightly.

(Someone who rolls better than Jack will need to look around, if there is anything else.)

Theren tries to rest a bit and tend to his wounds as much as possible, having caught a pretty solid blow from the Manticore. He examines the wound to try to determine whether or not it is likely to be poisoned or diseased.

Reverie walks towards Theren and touches his shoulder, using Lays on Hands (3 HP). "So, this Manticore uses healing potion... That's why it healed some part." She mumbles, humming in thought. "Do you all think that we could find some healing potion if we go into the cave?"

(Theren is correct that manticores do not have the most sanitary mouths, but Reverie's extra bit of healing cleans out the wounds properly. No risk of disease or poison.)

The entire group enters the cave, poking around the piles of rotting leftover manticore meals. Trim's eye is sharp, and he points out a few spots that caught his attention.

1. As Reverie ponders about healing potions, there is an intact vial that was buried in the mud near the glass shards. The color and the fragrance of the fluid confirms that it is a (common) Potion of Healing
2. From the bones, you are guessing that other adventurers ran afoul of the manticore, although you cannot find any identification. There are scraps of rusted, torn, and punctured armor. There is one set of armor that is intact. When you pick it up, the grime and slime slide off, and the Armor of Gleaming, Breastplate looks as good as new.
3. You also find a helm in good shape. Looking closely, there are runes in multiple languages. As you touch it, you feel like you can understand all of them. During the next short rest, you will understand how to use the Helm of Comprehending Languages.

(Your group does not find anything else interesting in the cave, and the stench is starting to wear on you. After you leave the cave, decide who gets what item.)

Trimyrai: (to the party) "i wouldn't have thought such a beast would be intelligent enough to drink a potion of healing."

"Ye never know. Lots of beasts just drink what they find due to instincts. A deer could've drank them under the right circumstances. Theren, ye alright?"

(OOC: The Monster Manual describes the manticore as taunting its prey in the Common tongue, so this monstrosity is smarter than the average beast. I figured it would appreciate the value of healing potions, but still be brutish enough to chew up the flasks instead of trying to open it.)

(Edit: Jack's post went up before mine, but I missed 854. I was responding more to post 853. It is tough to tell when a player is not sure about a particular creature, versus a character not having a bit of knowledge.)

(Yeah, I knew. I just wanted jack to have semi-common sense. IF a deer came across a river of healing potion, it would drink it too. But that's rare. The manticore would be supposed to eat them.)

"Maybe Manticore is smart enough to have a potion out of the victims. This one is smart enough to taunt us with a common language, anyway." Reverie says as she looks into the items they found. "Who would like to have a potion of healing for now?"

Trimyrai: (to the party) "If the danger is passed, perhaps we could save it for later."
