When the Scarecrow attacks Af, he raises his shield and with his symbol tightly in his hands will use his Warding Flare. A flash of light transfers from his holy symbol, to his hand, to his arm, and then to the shield. (Reaction)

Jack's song (post 221) doesn't cut as deeply as the previous rounds, but the Tree is still staggered. Jack moves next to it and starts Riverdancing.
Theren gets next to the distracted enemy. The first strike glances off its hard bark, but the other finds a softer spot, and does 4 points total. (Resistant to bludgeoning and piercing damage.)
Af glows once again, and direct's the god-light at his foe. (AT DEX save at disadvantage: 8 ) The light glances off the muck and slime, not able to harm the Tree.
Round 4: Katrina, Reverie, Froskan still to go, then the tree. (Jack and Theren are in melee range.)

Reverie's main attack is successful. The tree is not resistant to the scimitar's slashing damage, so it takes 5 points.
Froskan finds a side that is not on fire, and blasts it with frost, for 6 more damage.
The tree swings at Jack, who has hurt it with his mockery. It will then move 10' (frost-slowed) to get off the bonfire that Katrina set. This will give Theren and opportunity attack. (Clubbing Jack with Mockery disadvantage 8 for 14 damage)

Jupiter sprints towards the Tree, and throws his spear. Attack: 16 Damage: 5, Hex damage: 5 necrotic
Notes: The Awakened Tree missed Jack. It took 33 points the last round (and Jupiter's spear this round), for a total of 58 damage. It is still moving, but it is almost hacked/burned/frozen to pieces.
Theren gets an opportunity attack, in addition to his normal Action and Bonus.

(Tree WIS save 20 ... wow, from start to finish, whatever was animating the tree just couldn't handle Jack's songs)
To keep things simple, Katrina dampens the various bonfires around the clearing. Jack finishes his song. The Awakened Tree falls over. A crack forms in its side, a thin stream of smoke pours out, and the evil spirit gives off a wail before it dissipates.
Even the insects are quiet for a moment. Your group hears a noise above. Some kind of insect-monkey creature was watching. Katrina will mention later that it resembles a Meenlock, a fey creature created by terror, and that spreads fear. The thing hisses, then sinks into the shadows, no longer there.
You also hear rustling in the bushes to the west. The scampering moves away from the clearing, until it is gone. (Whatever they were, they ran away.)
About 10 minutes later, the normal group of scouts arrives. Their abnormal terror faded at the time you won the fight. They are grateful for what you have done, and will resume scouting the swamp trail. Your group can go back to the wagons to recover.
(Let me know if there was anything else you wanted to do or check out, either before or after the other scouts showed up.)

Katrina sigs in relief as the creatures are finally defeated. The Meenlock really explained why she was so afraid. Well, that, and the way her Granparentsused to threaten her with the Feywilds every time she misstepped. She shuddered a little at the memory, but didn't dwell on it. "Looks like that settles that!" she says with a grin. "Another win for us!"
Reverie sighs exhaustedly as they won the battle against the Awaken Tree. After witnessing Jack and Katrina's reaction for this battle, she finally can smile again but tiredly. Dropping her arms to the sides and lifting her gaze to see the sky, she feels quite tired. Maybe they could finally get some rest for good. When her weapons go back to its place around her, Reverie claps for Jack's performance and then smiles at Katrina briefly. "I'm glad that everyone is all right. Good job, everyone." Then, her gaze shifts back to the Awaken Tree, wondering if there is anything that she could loot from it.

Froskan also sighs as the tree falls, with relief in his case. For the first time, he wishes he had some skills with fire magic instead of only cold. But it all worked out in the end. He walks back closer tot he others to search the fallen scarecrow.
The scarecrow remnants don't have anything, beyond humanoid bones, willow, and vines.
The tree, in its death throes, tried to fall on top of Jack (who danced out of the way). Reverie pokes around the wood. Besides being animated, it was a normal swamp tree. However... in a spot where the tree gouged the ground with its impact, she notices a decayed arm, covered with roots and vines, poking out of the mud.

Digging through the mud, you uncover a humanoid body. Although the body is intact, it is also mostly dissolved by the mud and plant growth. It was held down by vines, similar to the ones used by the Vine Blight. The boots are shredded by the plant roots, but the soles look familiar to a set of the footprints that Af was following to this clearing.
There are signs of many more bodies, but only scraps of clothing and bone are left from those victims.
You find another body, in similar shape to the first one you found. Oddly enough, the boots had resisted the plant growth. They are completely caked in mud, but the furred boots are in good shape. (I assume you'll bring them back to the wagons and clean them off.)
Your group has time to investigate the glowing gem and the furred boots over the next day.

A gasp escapes as soon as Reverie found a humanoid body, covered with roots and vines out of the mud. She steps back immediately as her face becomes pale slightly in surprised. No words were coming out from her lips that are now slightly opened in shock. Her heart is sprinting by this horrifying scene, but she realizes the boots are in good shape still.
