You notice several of the people in the room staring at you. There is too much chatter to make out any complete conversations other than the exchange between the bartender and the gnome boy, who you saw scamper out the front door. Through the chatter you hear some random bits including...
He hesitates for a moment, then seeing you are unarmed and seemingly up to no ill will, he perks up a bit.
"I'm Alvyn, I pretty much do everything around here. Arannis likes to boss me around, but he pays me and i eat for free. And Miri is nice. Sometimes I wonder how they are related."
As he talks he scoops a bowl full of dried bits from a large bag in the corner, and plops it down for the dog, who excitedly runs to it and starts eating.
"What about you, where are you traveling to? I have not seen you before."
He listens as he scoops grain from another large bag and pours it into a trough for the ox.
"Yes I could use your help. Me and my companions were looking to stay here for the night. More specifically we were looking for 2 comfortable rooms and breakfast the next morning and may I see that you look beautiful tonight, your eyes are just like the ocean on a sunset, showing mystery but sparkling with life." Ducolis says the the woman helping him with a small smile.
After Ducolis has ordered the rooms, he sees the white wolf lost and alone. He will grab him by the shoulder and take him to the rooms he just got.
Miri blushes at the complement and responds, "Certainly, thats 16 silver for the rooms and... well never mind the breakfast. It's on the house. Follow me and i will show you to your rooms."
She gives Ducolis a wink before turning and prancing up the stairs.
Overhearing the exchange, Arannis calls after, "On the h- what? We'll never stay in business giving free food to every... creature that compliments you!"
His concerns fall on deaf ears already halfway up the stairs. He shakes his head and goes back to cleaning.
He listens as he scoops grain from another large bag and pours it into a trough for the ox.
Briar listens to the boy closely... much of what he tells her, she can easily relate to with her own childhood and upbringing, "Alvyn is it? She repeats that's a brave hero's name, did you know that? You are very lucky to have such a name and such worthy and honored position here. If you do just about everything as part of your job then I can only imagine you may be being groomed for ever greater responsibilities! Now that is impressive... and all the more lucky for you, as by doing everything... the small and most menial of tasks may you gain the wisdom and knowledge to make true and lasting decisions to chart the destinies of others in the future!"Briar speaks in an excited exaggerated voice full of awe and wonder.
The Hedge Witch gives the boy a curtsy and bow, "an honor to meet you once and future lordling, as for where I am headed, I am on a quest to locate a beautiful Princess named Willow who is in grave danger so I must keep myself out of sight and not attract attention. I am a bit shy around crowds, you see. Do you think you can help me? I know it is a lot to ask but you are in charge, the master of the stable! With your permission, I would like to very much rest my head here for the night while my dwarven companions sleep in their soft comfortable beds inside and keep my being here just between you and me... our little secret. You and I are the same, we know how others want to make a fuss over every little thing, easier not bother them with trivial details. Do you like music? How about I play a merry tune just for you, in your honor?" Briar takes out herViol and begins to play something for him.
The White Wolf jerks back from Ducolis as the triton grabs at his shoulder. Which... is not entirely unlike what he's been doing with everyone else. After a few more wild glances around (and several more glances toward the bartender, should one be paying attention), the Wolf nods shortly to Ducolis, and follows after him toward the rooms.
Alvyn taps his foot and bobs his head as you play. After a moment he says, "Wow those dwarves are so lucky to have a talented musician traveling with them... OH NO!!! THE DWARVES!!!"
He frantically starts side stepping and back peddling his way out of the stables in a hurry, "It was really nice meeting you hope i see you again soon gotta tend to the kitchen now BYE!!!"
He darts back inside worriedly muttering something about steaks and ale and Arannis.
"Sorry there little fella, having a hard time hearing you, perhaps if you stood on your chair you could better talk over the crowd." He chuckles.
Just then the gnome boy bursts in the door, dashing and dodging his way back to the kitchen saying, "Sorry, sorry, so sorry, hurry, hurry, the steak, oh no please, so sorry, hurry Alvyn hurry, so sorry, ooooo Arannis is gonna kill me..."
He darts back inside worriedly muttering something about steaks and ale and Arannis.
Briar smiles and giggles at the young boy, amused. Looks around at the stable and shrugs feeling a little about Ducolis being so kind to rent a room for her and her to be so selfish to let go empty. So she pats the ox once more and pets the dog and bids them both a good night and heads back around to the entrance to the inn.
On her way she notes Hanzo cooking his snake meat... the smell nearly overwhelms her but sucks it up and approaches him, a friendly smile on her face, "there you are my sapphire savior..."She pauses, taking in a breath and sniffs... "smells delicious, enjoy your meal, I will leave you in peace. I was just checking the stable and now I am off to find my room no doubt our kind-hearted dwarves have secured for me. I will see you in the morning then."Briar moves behind Hanzo and wraps her arms around and gives him a little innocent kiss on the cheek, "tomorrow, bright and earlier... you wouldn't leave without me would you?"
The Hedge Witch does not wait for a response but turns and moves towards the Inn's front door to find the others and her room to settle in for the night and get some sleep on a real bed for a change. The concept sounding utter depraved and decadent to her... sleeping on a real bed... not a pile of straw, not on the ground but a bed no less. Moving through the door she looks for either the dwarves or someone in charge to ask about the status of her room.
Terrance does stand up staring daggers at the elf "Look here long ear, I've had just about enough of you, one more word out of your mouth and things are going to get messy." Terrance turns to Zaroc and speaks in dwarvish "I've had just about enough of this, should have gone and bleedin camped in the woods. I might have to leave you to the meal before I do something I regret"
The innkeeper Miri leads you up a set of stairs, up one floor, then another, then another, and another. The staircase seems much taller than the building appeared outside... MUCH. Finally she opens a door leading to a hallway full of doors. She leads you about halfway down the hallway before stopping, turning with a bow, and gesturing towards 2 doors magically marked with a glowing Trident. "Here are your rooms good sir, and here are your keys.", she says as she extends 2 keys, glowing blue, in the direction of Ducolis. "To exit, simply walk downstairs. When making your way back up to your rooms, simply watch your key as you walk up the stairs. When it glows, you are on the right floor. As you can see, the markings on your room doors are tailored to the one who purchased them. I do hope you enjoy your stay, and I thank you for choosing The Dusty Ox Inn. I will be downstairs if you need me."
With that, she squeezes past you and back down the hallway, out the door, and out of sight.
The White Wolf's tension seems to ease as they retreat from the main room. Although as the magic of the place becomes apparent, he does seem to tense up again.
As Miri leaves, the Wolf steps forward, raising his voice just slightly. "Please? Do you mind if I ask a question?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Thank you, have a lovely evening."Ducolis says to the woman. After which he gently pushes the white wolf along into the room with him."Hey, I have seen that you are willing to help and I appreciate that. You are also the only one who so far hasnt insulted me or judged me by my scales. So I want to ask you to help me. I would like to know about what is beyond the barrier if there is even anything. For this we need to find the man who burned the guards you healed at the market. This man could be dangerous and hurt more people and you seem to be able to restore wounds, an abilty very useful in this situation and you also seem to be lost. So would you like to help me? I'll give you some time to think about it for now you can just to it easy in this room. I still need to give the dwarves their key."and with that Ducolis will head downstairs and see if he can find the dwarfs.
Terrance has had enough, in his attempt to avoid attacking the barkeeper he has decided to go to sleep. Seeing Ducolis coming down stairs he collects his room key from him and then he goes up to the room and sleeps. (Long rest) I assume he is followed by Zaroc once he has finished the meal.

"Of course. I am here to help anyway I can.", Miri responds.
The dwarves have worked their way through most of the first gallon and are starting to look round for their food and drink.
Hanzo sits outside and makes a small fire to cook the meat of the snake he killed earlier, he has no plans to sleep in a room with complete strangers.

Ducolis then heads back upstairs for the night, and the rest of the inhabitants have also cleared out for the most part.
