Terrance makes a face "Ah yes I heard about that, I know it does little good now, but me and some friends managed to apprehend the man who did the deed. I can't bring your ox back to life but I can give you that comfort. And while it may be a little bizarre we could always have a funeral for your ox."
Terrance blanches as she shouts and looks over towards Arannis and the guards. "Listen my dear, while I am humbled by your gratitude, I am not a dwarf seeking praise, if you could keep my involvement between us it would be much appreciated." Terrance's belly rumbles...loudly. "I don't suppose your gratitude could come in a more edible form...say breakfast for me and my friend Zaroc here." He raises an eyebrow beseechingly.
"Nothing hot i am affraid... But I do have some sweetrolls leftover from yesterday. They are still good and I would gladly send you on your way with them."
Exhaustion from the events of a very long day begins to set in as Briar climbs into the bedroll with Hanzo to get some much-needed sleep. Her back to Hanzo, tears stream down from her eyes as she cries silently, desperately not wanting Hanzo to see (-or hear her-) as she conceals her weakness and current emotional state.
Surprisingly it doesn't take long for the Hedge Witch to drift off to sleep... and dream. In her dream, she hears her sister Bramble calling to her, singing...
As Briar dreams, she cries out, talking in her sleep, "Bramble, I don't see you where are you?"Then falls silent her eyelids fluttering, cold sweat pouring down her forehead, her breathing becoming ever more rapid as she continues to talk in her sleep, repeating the same words over and over again.
"Briar!"
"Hold your breath, don't let go..."
"I feel it coming..."
"Faraway something calls on the edge of it all..."
"Briar!"
"Hold your breath, don't let go..."
"I feel it coming..."
"Faraway something calls on the edge of it all..."
When she wakes or if woken up by Hanzo, Briar has no memory at all of the dream, etc. or the words she uttered while talking in her sleep...
When you finally wake, you notice that The White Wolf has already left. As you head downstairs, you hear horns playing.
@Terrance
Before you can respond to Miri, you hear loud majestic horns and you see that The White Wolf has come downstairs. Suddenly the door to the inn swings open, and a well decorated Royal Guard, obviously of a much higher rank than those you have encountered thus far, enters the inn proclaiming, "Greetings! I have come by order of Yarl Solaris Oakenheel, in seach of the great medicine man clad in the pelt of a great white wolf."
The Guard then sees The White Wolf, having just ventured down the magical staircase, and without hesitation shouts, "Ah, at last, our hero! I, as well as many others in the royal courts, have heard of your deeds, and the Yarl insists that you grace him with your presence, for a formal display of his gratitude. Typically this includes granting a wish of the one being exalted, within reason of course."
The White Wolf raises his head a bit, "What if I wish to free a prisoner?", he asks.
"Certainly that can be arranged.", the Guard boasts."Now wont you please join us in returning to the Yarl's throne room?"
With a nod, The White Wolf reaches out, exposing his wrists clad in the red thread of Ilmater, and proceeds to follow the parade of guards out of the inn, and off to see the Yarl.
Terrance looks up as the White Wolf encounter plays out. "Huh, guess we've got friends in higher places than we thought."
Seeing Ducolis standing on the stairs Terrance rolls his eyes and lifts himself to his feet. He walks over to Ducolis and says "About time fishy, we're ready to go and see about this old man. Unless you've got a good reason to delay I suggest we move now and make use of the morning light." With that Terrance waves to Zaroc and heads towards the front door of the inn.
And so, the two dwarves and their triton companion, set off down the Northeast Road, past the creepy graveyard which now looked far less creepy in the brightness of the Light Giver's morning radiance. They had not long been traveling, when ahead in the distance they saw the genasi and the young girl seemingly off to a late and rocky start, gathering their things and preparing to set out in search of the old man.
Briar quietly sits on a nearby rock her face a little flushed but getting some color back into her cheeks, munching on some nuts and berries for breakfast unaware the dwarves and the others have come upon their campsite.
To Zaroc and Ducolis "It's these two again, Ducolis you said these two are meeting up with the old man up ahead perhaps it would be best if we travel with them. Especially if they're going to be attacked by strange men regularly."
Terrance will turn towards the Genasi and the Girl "Ho there, glad to see you two survived the night." Terrance shouts jovially closing the distance between the two groups.
Hanzo will turn to Terrance “Thanks to your help, it’s greatly appreciated.” Hanzo bows slightly to Terrance as a show of gratitude
Hanzo finishing up cooking the fish he meant to sell the day before.. “Would any of you be interested in some mahi mahi? There’s plenty.” (never actually discussed what type of fish but oh well lol)
"Think nothing of it, just doing my duty." Terrance responds. "I'll gladly partake, breakfast has been a bit messy this morning. I don't know about mister bassful over there though he may view it as cannibalism"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hanzo will turn to Terrance “Thanks to your help, it’s greatly appreciated.” Hanzo bows slightly to Terrance as a show of gratitude. "Think nothing of it, just doing my duty." Terrance responds. "I'll gladly partake, breakfast has been a bit messy this morning. I don't know about mister bassful over there though he may view it as cannibalism"
Briar slowly stands up and offers Terrance a smile and looks back at the other two studying them closely (trying to decide or not if she remember there being one other in their part now apparently missing) as she moves to stand next to Hanzo speaking at last in a sweet voice, "yes please join us, and thank for your assistance last night. I trust you all slept well at the inn?"
As the group settles a bit to all sit down together before starting off again Briar looks at Hanzo and then to the dwarf Terrance. "Before we set off after the old man, we... Hanzo and I want to be sure that you and those who accompany you bear no ill will or intentions toward the old man. We would feel much more comfortable knowing (each of you)... your interest or business with the old man."
Briar, as she asks, looks closely at each one of them,Insight8, gauging their reactions (and as they speak their responses) as she continues, "speaking for myself, I overheard the old man's ranting about the beyond and followed him to the tavern, our first encounter. My sister, my twin, Bramble is missing and has always had a keen interest in the beyond and worry she has traveled there or attempting to do so. When I heard the old man's ranting, I sought him out and continue to seek him to find out more about it all and what he may know if anything about my sister. Hanzo here had an encounter on a ship with people who may have come from the beyond thus his interest in all this."
"That said, once each of you has responded then we will feel freer to share additional details we know with all of you regarding what we have discovered from both the old man and the mysterious stranger thus far. My primary concern is my sister's safety and I feel the old man knows something more. So just to be clear... know that I will not risk seeing him harmed or killed out of hand... and lose discovering what else he knows. Agreed?"
Briar takes Hanzo's hand into hers and looks at the three of them waiting for each to respond...
As she does she uses her awakened mind, to project her thoughts to each one of them... one by one, in turn, to convey the same thought (below).
'please speak truthfully and respond, we have given, now you must...'
"I heard the old man's ravings in town and saw him attack two guards. I'm worried that either his ravings are fanciful and he will lead a generation of young adventurers to their deaths in pursuit of his mania" He gives a pointed look to all the young adventurers around him (That's everyone here to him I believe.) "Or his ravings are true which may almost be worse linking our world to a horde of dangers from beyond. As a Cleric of Njord, God of our seas I must investigate these matters and discover their truths." He taps at the holy symbol embossed on the side of his warhammer.
"I dragged ol' Zaroc into this when I met him at the Bottom Rock Tavern. I saw a friendly dwarven face and enlisted his aid for the price of a single meal. And I must say a more resourceful fellow I have seldom come across. As for the fish..." Terrance's face creases up in thought. "Well he overheard where the old man was going but beyond that I haven't asked. Means to an end an' all. Don't brain a fellow whilst he's still useful." Terrance turns to Ducolis. "May as well satisfy all our curiosity now."
Internally to the tapeworm "Back again eh. Need to get some bloody cucumber seeds."
Briar looks at the dwarven cleric Terrance barely able to contain a slight smile of amusement as he speaks, somewhat captivated at his turn of phrase and manner of speaking as she feels the honesty in his words and so far, him at least she is willing to place her trust and faith in. Her gaze turns to the others as she squeezes Hanzo's hand, "did I forget something you would care to add Ser Hanzo, I did not mean to put words in your mouth, rather I merely wished to expedite things," she asks politely?"
Then Briar turns to Terrance, and with her awakened mind projects her thoughts to his mind alone, 'please accept my sincere apologies for my deception and pretense at being a tapeworm inside you. It was most uncalled for and disrespectful towards a respected elder such as yourself. I humbly beg your forgiveness and offer no other excuse than my youth in allowing myself to carried away like that at your expense.'Briar respectfully bows her head before Terrance... so he can be sure that she is the one speaking in his head...
before we arrive to at the campsite Ducolis says to Zaroc "You're welcome I coulndt even think of spending the night outside in a bed, the only thing I can sleep in outside of a comfortable bed is water."
After tthey arrive at the campsite and Ducolis is being asked questions he will respond "I guess after last night you have proven to be trustworthy. So I'll tell you why I am so interseted in the old man. Around 20 years ago I found my way to Absoli when I was lost in a storm. The storm seemed to be unnatural. In this storm there was a voice and it said something in a language I couldn't understand but the one thing I did hear was 'beyond'. This one word has haunted me since than and caused me many sleepless nights. Than when the old man was rambling about the beyond I thought it was some sort of calling for me and that is why I wanted to speak to him. I hope you can understand. I mean no harm to the man I just want to know if there truly is something beyond and my gut is telling me there has to be something."

"That would be most kind of you my dear. I've been terribly remiss, what is your name dear?"
He will take the sweetrolls from her and then wait for Ducolis to appear downstairs.
@Terrance
"Miri. Miri Nightbreeze.", the beautiful half elf responds, now somewhat distracted from her misery.
