Alzaren launches two more arrows into the ragged-looking cloak, then closes to within 30 feet, using his link tot he creature through his hexblade's curse to hurt it a bit more if it's still fighting (Maddening Curse, 5 psychic damage)
(Sharpshooter for -5 hit, +10 damage, +5 more damage on a hit from curse, advantage from Odysseus' help, 3 rolls with advantage due to elven accuracy)
With that last bit, it goes limp. Falls to the ground, turning to white ash.

Boran looks around for any other creatures hiding in the room. Over turning books and searching little crevices and other tattered clothing that might be hiding a creature. He does not want to be surprised again. There’s not enough paper to go around. If anyone else cares to check out the books, he hands them over.

Alzaren, you might be helpful on this, are you able to detect if there any traps on these chest and if I lend you the scimitar to see if you are able to open them?

It opens relatively easy. A few sticky spots along the hinge, but not too much of a problem.
Inside is a glorious haul of gear of all kinds, meticulously and neatly stacked to the brim.
Basically, gear yourselves up :) Since there's so much inside the chest, pick things from the PHb that you think would be appropriate for your level.
Also, level up to 14.
OOC: Also, a plug for the latest I'm working on - The Zaraithian Chronicles // Fantasy with tech stuff - world built on the ruins of a technologically devastated civilization with a mysterious girl whom the party must help get back "home". Running it in person tabletop, so if you guys like this, I may transfer it to the forums after we run through The Machine. By the way, we still have quite a while to go. I didn't realize how slow the forums can be.

Ooc: yeah I’ve been having internet issues. Sorry for not posting as promptly as I would like. Loving the atmosphere of this one
Ooc: in terms of appropriate for level, is that +2 gear? Also, is there plate armor?
Boran looks for the biggest shiniest sword he can find, if he sees plate armor he grabs that as well. Huge happy grin on his face, “now this is more like it!”
He looks glances toward the hallway we just fought in then at the weapon in hand and armor. “This gear feels at home with me, I wonder if this would become a hinderance if we have any more battles in hallways ahead.”
+2 is fine. There's plate +2 in there, wedged way into the corner somehow. After a few firm tugs, it comes out. There's also a shiny sword in there.
Roll percentile if you want to chance for a magical one (sword), Boran.

You find it in there. You can roll percentile dice to see what kind of magical properties for the half-plate if you want.

Odysseus looks at the chests beside the table (perception 16 if needed)
ooc: are they wooden and/or rotten ?
Boran looks around for any other creatures hiding in the room. Over turning books and searching little crevices and other tattered clothing that might be hiding a creature. He does not want to be surprised again. There’s not enough paper to go around. If anyone else cares to check out the books, he hands them over.
Perception: 24
investigation: 3
Alzaren moves over to where the key sits on a shelf and reads the note.
The chests look fairly rotted, but not enough to deteriorate the structure to give way to its contents by just looking. They are wooden.
No other creatures in the room. The clatter from beyond has gone silent.
The note reads:
“Beware, the Blade is guarded past the impenetrable door! The key must be found.”
- Yours truly,
Tullis Swonder and Friend Bootneck

Alzaren relays what the note says to the others, then picks up the key.
Odysseus asks to Alzaren, indicating the chests
Alzaren, you might be helpful on this, are you able to detect if there any traps on these chest and if I lend you the scimitar to see if you are able to open them?
“Room seems clear of any more creatures. Do you think that’s the key to an impenetrable door? Or are we missing something?”
Walking over to Odysseus, Alzaren inspects the chests, looking for any sign of traps on them.
Investigation? 11
It doesn’t appear as if there are any.

Alzaren digs through the gear, looking for the best longbow he can find, as well as some decent armor.
(Preference would be a longbow +2, then a set of half-plate - magical or mundane either one. And possibly bracers of archery)
You find it in there. You can roll percentile dice to see what kind of magical properties for the half-plate if you want.
