Jebben hoists his pack and slings his pipes over his shoulder, then stands next to Wander. "Agreed, Rustless. I'll try to stall the guards. We need the others, though." Looking towards the front door, he grasps one of the bagpipe's pipes with one hand, and waves his fingers at the door in a circular motion with the other.
Jebben is casting Minor Illusion to create a "CLOSED" placard on the other side of the front door to hopefully prevent the guards from entering for a bit longer (or at all?) once they reach the door. He'll continue re-casting it as necessary, should it take longer than a minute for them to get to the door.
Dorstaer nods and stands. Turning to Wander, he says, "Lets head up and get the others. It's time to go." He heads for the stairs and goes up after their other allies.
If you open the door just a little, you'll be able to see what's blocking the path and as long as it's less than 10 pounds you can move it out the way.
All of you reach the top of the stairs, seeing Ellayne white as a ghost and Vostaria pondering over the door. You all feel colder walking up the stairs, your spine tingles and the walls look moist with condensation.
"It's time to go, the guards are almost here," Dorstaer says as he sees Ellayne and Vostaria. Then he finally notices their expressions. "What's wrong?" he asks as he hurries over to them.
Jebben looks nervously up the stairs, then towards the front door. He reaches up to pull his hat down tight onto his head. "Damn," he mutters to himself when he realizes he's not wearing his wide-brimmed jungle cap.
After another brief glance up the stairway, the gnome makes his way alone towards the back exit and waits by the door, stepping behind a crate of vegetables. He pulls out his notepad, opens it, and moves his glance back and forth between the crates and the notepad--though his eyes remain mostly affixed on the front entrance.
Jebben's trying to stay somewhat unseen, should the guards open the front door. If anyone coming in from the back door happens to see him "hiding," he's trying to look like he has official business with the crates. If a delivery person comes in, particularly one laden with another crate, Jebben will try to get his attention.
”I... Tried to call Zachary and Annie. But then, I heard a strange sound within. Such as... something was having a meal. It's...” Ellayne tries to explain to Dorstaer; however, she couldn't continue her words as she feels sickening with the memories.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Reverie Forestgleam—Human Paladin Level 5 in Frontier City of Nunkreet Extremely busy and busy as ever recently, but I will trying to catch up as much as I can
Vostaria tries to push the door with a shunt, but whatever is sat behind it is too heavy. Another grunt can be heard from within, then a couple of sharp bangs, then the sloppy eating resumes.
Jebben
A Half-Orc walks through the back entrance with a large open crate filled with cauliflowers. Two fangs stick up from his bottom lip, almost touching his nose. He wears a cotton vest which is drenched in sweat, and a tattoo resembling a skeletal dragon covers his left arm. He takes no notice of you as he places the crate on top of another.
You all hear the door swing open from downstairs and the heavy footfall of boots on wood. The bar, which is still relatively quiet, goes silent. You hear a voice from below - "Anybody seen a group of about 4 or 5 individuals? One sack of metal is with them as well as a snake woman?"

"There's a backdoor we might still be able to use to get out," Dorstaer says absently, distracted with worried about Annie and her father. Seeing Vostaria and Wander fail to open the door, he shoves his own shoulder against it, pushing with all his might.

Jebben turns slightly pale. From behind the crates he caresses his bagpipes with a hand, points a finger out into the common area, and mutters "Time's up, friends. If you're coming back downstairs, do it now and let me know. I'll try for a distraction. If you're going out some back way, I'll meet you behind the building."
He bites his lip, and turns to the half orc, notepad in hand. "Oi, mate! I'm on my way out. Could you do us a favor? We need these inside, a bit closer to the bar today. The entertainment for tonight are going to need to use this door in a bit. Frail things, musicians--I'm sure you know the type!" Jebben winks and motions towards his bagpipes. "We'll pay extra, of course, for the trouble."
Jebben cast Message with that first line, targeted at Dorstaer.
Deception Roll (to try to get the half-orc to carry crates inside): 6
As Dorstaer barges into the door, a large crash of plates can be heard from within, and the door pushes over some kind of cabinet. The door opens enough to squeeze through. The grunting heard before stop abruptly, and a slamming of feet replaces it, heading toward the door from inside.
Roll Initiative
Jebben
The Half-Orc completely ignores you, as if he didn't even speak your language. You hear a large amount of plates crash from above, and the Guards in the main eating area of the bar snap their necks to the staircase, and draw their spears and shields.
Dorstaer
There are two windows in the main hallway, one at either side of the corridor. The one closest to the staircase is shut, but the one at the other end is wide open, however, you can't see where it leads to.

Wasn't sure if Jebben & the guards were included in that initiative request, or if it was meant for the people upstairs and the thing-in-the-room. But there it is!
Can I see, from my hiding place, how many guards there are?
