"Hurosk, Moltaris, have Kyne's back we have this in hand." Lyreis moves closer to the "hunter", blade steady in his hand aimed at the stomach of the man. "Is my friend going to get a nasty surprise when he finds what he is looking for, if he does and you don't mention it now the last few seconds of your life are going to feel like hours of agony." The coldness in the elf's unblinking eyes is relentless.
Kyne's sense for the arcane isn't sharp enough to pick up more then the faint trace of magic he sensed already, and he changes his approach. Grasping a handful of charcoal from the dying hearth he crumbles it in his palm and it bursts into life once more. The smokey flame drifts to and fro and he lets the strange unnatural air current take it, following the trail as he goes.
"Well, see, I believe you." Mathilda says, making her voice uncharacteristically hard and flat. "And my partner here might even be willing to let you go. However, I don't see what use you are to us, since you know nothing, and even if you are just a hunter, you are a murder witness now." She catches Lyreis' eye, unbeknown to the man who is forced to keep his back to her as she is pressing her blade against his throat. She winks twice at Lyreis, but without smiling, indicating that what she is saying is, in fact, not at all what she is thinking. Mathilda then inclines her head towards the man in front of her, just a fraction and presses her lips together: he is trouble, he is lying. She hopes some of the others are also looking and have caught on. Or maybe they just think I'm suddenly a cold blooded killer... the unlikely thought crosses her mind.
Focusing her attention back on the liar, she continues: "So do you have anything useful at all to tell us, or should we get you out of our way right now?"
Molly keeps pace with Kyne as he moves around. With her Mind Link, she sends to him, "What in the names of the Holy and Unholy are you doing, anyway??"

The air currents here, Kyne thinks back. Look closely. They don't flow naturally. Watch the smoke, it's being pulled up. Something here isn't as it seems.
Molly nods, then takes a deep breath and tries to settle her jangling combat-energized nerves. She opens her senses as much as possible, wishing for the millionth time that she could extend her mind like some of her kalashtar elders were famous for.

With the help of the flames and the air current the three walks towards the base of the stairs, where the funny air current seems to stop. Still they do not find the source of it.
The hunter swallows with difficulty
" I... How I would have... I have..." his eyes looks in all directions thinking fast at the proximity of the two blades. "I have a ring!!"he says suddenly as if he has remembered it he points to his left hand with the right one to his middle finger where there is, indeed, a gold ring. "It's no worth much but... but is all that I got... I won it playing Dead Dragon Dice... It's yours if you want. But please do not kill me. I already said that I will never tell anything to anyone. For what I know an owlbear killed Trimmar while he was hunting... you wouldn't kill an unarmed man.. " he looks at them with hope in his eyes "wouldn't you?"
Kyne, Lyreis and Molly look throughfully the stairs.
One of them check the door and space between it and the proper stairs, other one starts to check it from the middle to the top and the other checks the other half.
Molly finds some weird marks in the wall. As if something had made some scratchs, similar to those you would expect to find below a chair or a table that are moved regulary.
Kine finally finds the source of the weird and faint air current. It comes from the bottom of the two lasts steps of the stair, and while Lyreis is inspecting the railing of the it he founds a little mark in the back of the last pole of it. With a smile he uses his fingertip to remove a little piece of wood and he found a little lever in a space.
He looks to the others and clicks it and the sound of some levers can be heard in all the house. Suddenly the top of the stairs begin to descend, the whole structure of the stair pivots over itself from the point where they are and in just a few seconds they are looking at a downstair instead of an upstair. At the bottom of it there is a closed wooden door.
As the others continue to search the house, Hurosk reaches out with his senses to detect if any otherworldly entities may be lurking about.
Primeval Awareness
Beginning at 3rd level, you can use your action and expend one ranger spell slot to focus your awareness on the region around you. For 1 minute per level of the spell slot you expend, you can sense whether the following types of creatures are present within 1 mile of you (or within up to 6 miles if you are in your favored terrain): aberrations, celestials, dragons, elementals, fey, fiends, and undead. This feature doesn’t reveal the creatures’ location or number.
With a sigh of exasperation, Mathilda drops her pretence. "Okay, I was really trying to give you a chance here, but you chose your fate. Lyreis, this man clearly speaks Elvish, his face gave him away. He was following what you and Kyne were saying. Also, do not take your blade off his chest. I don't know if he just hates elves or all of us, but from the way he looked at you, he would stab you if he got the chance." She withdraws her blade, since Lyreis seems to have the man under control, but she does not tuck it away.
When the staircase appears, she lets out a little gasp. "Oh wow, I had no idea that was there. I guess since he clearly won't help us..." She gives the man another look, as if to say "you made your bed, you lie in it" "I don't know what to do with him."
"Uh oh, friend," Hurosk says with a bit of a playful tone to the hunter, "I think they may have found something." The hunter draws his bow and levels it at the begging man. "Last chance to be of use..."
"Idiots. You do not know with who you are messing around. You have made the greatest, and last, mistake of your miserable lifes." Despite Lyreis having the point of his sword in his chest he slowly stands up. Slowly, he doesn't make any sudden move, but he is clearly defiant.
"Kill me if you must, but I will not die kneeled like a dog. Do you think I fear you? HA! " he spits to the floor again " You will soon learn the meaning of fear."he stands and looks to the elf to the eye. "So? what are you waiting for? Do it!"

Hurosk takes a step closer still with bow drawn. "What's in the lake?"
Insight 18
"Maybe we should just let him live so that he can face what he's truly scared of," the half-orc looks to his companions for a moment then back to the hunter. "Maybe if you tell us all that you know, I'll promise to kill you quickly."
Mathilda grabs the ropes, shaking slightly. The idea of some kind of lake monster scares her more a lot as she has never dealt with anything like that. She ties up the man, trying to secure him as best she can. Slightly paler than before, she asks: "What do you think is in the lake?"
"He seeks death, from us, as a way out of a worse fate. That is for certain. Let us investigate downstairs, someone stays here to watch him. If there are no further loose ends afterwards he can have his swift ending." Lyreis withdraws the blade enough to stop the man being able to kill himself on it.
