Over the course of two hours of hiking through the woods, Gruxx feels less and less like he knows for sure he's still following the trail. The path they have taken starts out continuing west, but it gradually arcs to the north. The trees begin to thin a little and then they find themselves on a road heading east to west.
Glynquinal will still follow Gruxx, remaining observant, scanning around regularly to make sure they don't get surprised by wolves, or something more deadly.
It really should have been more time before hitting the road. I'm going to retcon and say it was five hours. When you reach the road, you estimate you have about two more hours of daylight. You head west along the road. When you all have just about decided you really need to make camp, you spot another road intersecting the road you're on up ahead. Though the light is fading (you really should make camp), you're surprised and a bit disappointed to realize you're at the intersection of the Triboar Trail and the road to Phandalin — the intersection where you turned off the Triboar Trail on your journey from Waterdeep after rescuing Sildar to head south to Phandalin.
No. It is basically dark now. You can attempt to go back the way you came in the dark, but it's dark ... and scary ... and you'll not get a rest ... and you'll eventually start earning points of exhaustion ... and it would probably be safer to head back to Phandalin (in the morning) and to the camp site that way instead of trying to find it by trudging back through the woods.
Herr Doktor to the group: Perhaps we had better find a place to make camp. Glyn, would you mind making a perimeter with some of that rope and a bell.
Once they find a good place, HDP takes the next few minutes to cast unseen servant (as a ritual) and has the servant set up his bedroll and other camping parafanalia. If the others are interested, the servant helps them as well get the site set up. Since he has the servant for an hour, he also has the servant go forage for food.
Ian will help Glyn put a tripwire string and bell aorund the site.

Setting his pack down Glynquinal removes a length of string and bell. Taking a look around just off the road he hunts for a place to bed down for the night.

OOC looking for a spot with some tall grass or enough brush to offer some limited cover once off the road.
What task is HDP giving to the unseen servant concerning food? The unseen servant is not smart enough to follow an abstract command such as "go find food." But he can tell the force to "pick the berries on that bush" or "use a knife to clean that fish". I guess if the food is apples that have fallen onto the ground, "go find food" would work.
Glynquinal, you point out an area along the road that provides some cover, but affords a few places to lie down comfortably.
With Glynquinal and Ian both being elves, it makes sense that one would trance while the other keeps watch, and between the two, all eight hours of a long rest are covered (let me know who's 1st and who's 2nd). Usually, two people keep watch at a time, so HDP, Rock and Gruxx should choose 1st, 2nd or 3rd watch. Then, Glyn and Ian should roll perception checks — one each at advantage.

"The um.. These must be some crafty boogers backtracking to throw us off the trail. Maybe best to head back to town and deal with the Redbrands and then the Orcs since we know where they are." says Graxx.
Glynquinal seeing Rock preparing to stand watch with him groans inwardly. Rock is good for many things...but sitting quietly and listening on watch is not one of them.
To Rock, Glynquinal says, "We will have to be quiet tonight, and on alert. Who knows what else besides our party is out here?"

HDP's command to the servant regarding food would be to Find some berries, and come back in 10 minutes. Since he has him for an hour, maybe he experiments with different commands every 10 minutes until the servant fades away. Go find apples. Find something edible. Trap a rabbit.

The unseen servant eventually returns with a handful of some kind of berry. They aren't anything you've seen before. Do you try them? At any rate, you'll all need to eat one of your own rations. Anything else you want to do before you call it a night?
